Well , I can say that I've had several Yamaha guitars of this style in the video, but they're low-end guitars, except perhaps for the top-of-the-range model. But the one in this video has new strings, and that's what makes a clear sound, even on any low-end guitar... as soon as the strings are a few weeks or even months old, the sound won't be the same... oh no !
This gent fakes nothing. There are over 20 different types of mold that we encounter daily in our line of work. Some are topical, and others are deeply saturated .If this was black mold, I wouldn't have touched it at all. Great job once again.
Unfortunately, if it was really damaged by mold - it would be damaged more deeply than just visible issues. Mold means the guitar was constantly stored in high humidity as result wood is loosing it structure and form. Acoustic guitars has really thin piece of wood inside that becomes useless very fast in high humidity. Surprised it has no issues with neck or body veneer or internal structure. There are 2 options: it was really in bad condition but not actually attacked by mold and was stored in dry coniditons or it is just a fake mold.
@@edwinh7908 no doubt - liked a lot videos here about electric guitar restoration! Just it will be absolutly true with electric guitar, but here it looks artifical. It gives false hope to unexperience people who might want to buy acoustic guitar in a poor condition.
I used to have a Yamaha guitar just like that one and I miss it because I had to sell it back in the day. I had a lot of fun with that guitar, and this video brought back some fond memories. Other than the frets I bet this was one of the easiest restoration jobs you've had in a while? Nice work as always!
Restoring an acoustic guitar is a lot different than restoring solid body electric guitars. When I see mold, any kind, the first thing I look for is moisture related damage. Warping, delaminating, the bridge doesn’t sit right on the box. Internal framing. Where was the mold in side the box addressed?
What a meticulous job, it's a pleasure to see it. If it's not a bother, I would like to know what size the frets you put in are. I want to change them on my guitar and I think they are the same, but I don't know the size. Thank you very much.
It's great your video, take me out of doubt, if the first frets are already worn by the use, but from the sixth fret to the mouth are normal, since it has not been played in that area is it necessary to change all the frets or you can only change the defective ones?
Compliments. Skills typical of a luthier. Two questions: what type of neck rest did you use, is it on sale? The tumbler for cleaning the tuners seems to work electrochemically. Can you talk about it? If it's for sale, do you have any information on where? Complimenti. Puoi parlarne ? Se è in vendita, hai notizia dove ?

Polyurethane is very forgiving. I'd bet that lacquer wouldn't do as well. Go Yamaha ! I own several and they are a very consistent instrument. Always stays in tune and sound great and play (feel) well for a smaller handed player. StringJoy Naturals.
Hello, congratulations on your work. I have a similar problem but on a piece of furniture and mold recurs after a short time, I passed the bleach (sodium hypochlorite) but it had little shelf life. Aren't you worried that mold will recur? Hello, thank you!
the inside of the body certainly has mold spores too if the outside was covered with it. I didn't see you address any of that. If not, then it will just quickly spread every again with humidity
I have a Yamaha FG-420/12 that I bought new in 1982 for $150. It’s so sentimental to me I’m willing to pay any price to have it perform as a pro guitar. It needs much work but I’m willing to get it right and make it a professional guitar. Most of her problem is in the neck, it’s too thick always was. It needs a new profile and the fretboard has a flat radius with very thin frets, so the neck is the main culprit.
You don't want to do that, not with these tuners. "Children, pets, and wildlife may become entangled in the gears to a degree that it may become impossible to extract them, leading to a ghastly death and difficult clean up. Always keep them covered." - Yamaha tuner manual.
Needs to learn how to remove, clean and restore the nut, you can clearly see it isn't seated cleanly against either the fretboard edge or the headstock. Also polish on rosewood before wax/restorative can lead to issues.
the sound is very wick. I adwice you to try thicky strings. let me ges - now you have something about 10-46? put there 11 or 12 is beter. by the way Yamaha use only 12 for theyr guitars. good job, man!
The patience you have to meticulously clean all those tiny parts. I could never.
This video reminds me that Yamaha make such well built guitars, From their Pianos to guitars. Amazing workmanship on their part.
100% agree, love their newer Revstar models 🎸 ... They even make great motorcycles 😆
Everything they make is top of the line, Yamaha saxophones, yamaha basses, yamaha trumpets, yamaha flutes, yamaha pianos, you name it.....

Hi Friend, amazing Yamaha guitar, amazing sound, amazing restoration, amazing video ! Thank you for sharing what any luthier is looking for !
Not only does Yamaha make superior instruments, but this man knows how to get great sound out of a guitar.
Another beautiful, beautiful restoration.
Nice clear video. Great result too.
What about inside? The mold will have grown in there too?
That’s what I was thinking. I did not see that addressed anywhere in the video.

You must be near the coast with all of these wet guitars! Great work! Keep it up!
These older model Yamahas are now treasures. They have a sound that is close to a Martin.
Look for Yamaha guitars with the RED Label FG-122

What about the mold on the inside of the body?
It's not mold. It's just where the lacquer get's pitted and ages (rots) over time. A Good wet and sand and then a buff always brings it back.
@punkywozza4330 If that is true, then the video title is not true, but a lie.
I used to have a Yamaha guitar just like that one and I miss it because I had to sell it back in the day. I had a lot of fun with that guitar, and this video brought back some fond memories.

True ! the frets only needed to be cleaned, not changed. Unless I've seen wrong, but that would surprise me.
