- This is the first episode in my new series about my progress in building a small portable OO9 gauge layout. In this episode I go over how the layout began, how I built the lower scenic section and the bridge builds for the layout.

Just found your channel and have found it inspiring. I am contemplating oo9 and the speed of your videos is perfect.
Glad you find the video enjoyable. And I’d encourage a OO9 build there’s something very satisfying about it.
I’ve been dabbling in OO9 for as many years as I’ve been modelling in OO (about 30 years!). The Bachmann Baldwin was nearly enough to kickstart a layout, as was my conversion of Skarkoey to Talyllyn No. 1. But now I’ve got two Fairlies coming at Christmas, I’ve finally started doing something about an actual layout. I really enjoyed both the modelling and your presentation in this video, so I’ve subscribed and I’ll be following the rest of the series with interest. Thank you.
Thanks Tom, glad you have enjoyed my videos. The fairlie certainly is a beauty of a model I can see why it would give you the urge to start a new layout, sounds like your gonna have a great Christmas good luck with the new project.
Great video!
Thank you
Love the video, especially the worts and all. Well done you
Thanks Matt glad you enjoyed the video there’s another 5 for your viewing pleasure
Look forward to seeing the next update on your 009 layout, I love watching idea's become reality and the techniques used.
glad you enjoyed, hopefully episode 2 won't be too long a wait.
Very cool video, interesting building process, perfectly edited 👍🤩🙋♂️
Thanks a lot, glad you’ve enjoyed my ramblings 😆👍
I really enjoyed watching this. I can't wait for the next update! The viaduct was beautiful too
Thank you very much glad you enjoyed the video and my viaduct.
Great Video Love 009
glad you liked it
Stunning viaduct, well made
Thank you very much
I think the problem was using solvent free grip glue. Proper gripfill would take the foil ok and still go off. But as you showed, peeling the foil off was a work around
Yes gripfill probably would have done the job certainly something to keep in mind in the future. Thanks for watching
@@WesternSignalman But this is what's great about your delivery ....you don't mind admitting faults. There are too many arrogant you tube channels even just in the model railway world, showing errors and rebuilds is what makes a good channel
Great video... first one i have watched , but have subscribed and will be back!!!
Thanks David and thanks for the sub
@@WesternSignalman I am now starting to plan a small 009 layout…..
@@davidparker2724 that’s how it started for me and now I’ve got a big one in mind 😆
@@WesternSignalman I have just seen the end result on your Instagram, so looking forward to watching the whole build on here this week
@@davidparker2724 thank you, I do appreciate that. I’ve still got a little further to go with the layout it needs the road and river doing and I have a scene at the front which i still haven’t quite worked out what it’s going to be.
What paint and colours did you use for the viaduct? Was it all by brush? Turned out really well, fair play!
Thanks, yes it was all brushed on I used lifecolors debris and rubble paint set, lime motor, broken tile and broken brick. The stone work is lifecolor stone colours green stone, sandstone and a hint of blue stone. Weathering was done with a mix of lifecolor rail weathering paints and ak interactive washes.
@@WesternSignalman Thanks mate! Ya really good, hope I can get the same effect when I do my layout....one day.
@@b9y if you look at some my earlier videos I show you how I painted brickwork on a laser cut signal box
@@WesternSignalman I'm rinsing your stuff atm so I'll have a watch, thank you!
I don't have model trains but I really want to get into 009 but whats the difference between 009 and Z or N scale?
009 is OO or HO gauge models on n scale track
Z gauge can be used to represent narrow gauge in n scale.
@@WesternSignalman so can I use n scale track for 009 scale engines?
@Dominic_Kim- yes they will run on n scale that’s what I use in my storage yard.
How can you pause Charlie at Chadwick ? Whatever next !
I know, outrageous behaviour on my part.
@@WesternSignalman lol
Where do I get 009 track, I cannot find any-
I picked mine up in my local model shop
