To everyone learning, don’t worry you’ll get it! It seems complicated at first but it becomes second nature. Ride on!
I'm starting to learn now. Obviously struggling, thats why Im watching this video. My foot keeps missing the gear switch too

I can completely understand it I never ride on before but I’m gonna buy a GSXR 750 🏍💨🔥 very soon 😁🤪
@@rickshue3583 Maybe try adjusting the shifter to the right level
I was always afraid of driving these cause I thought it was to complicated but wow this is easy
I have watched so many videos and this is the best instructor I have seen. Thanks so much !
It's easy to shift not so easy to do slow turns and maneuvers. But yeah get a bike and practice. I got one a few months ago and I'm already riding everywhere.
@@rebeccalasky6109 I’ve gotten pretty good at slow speed maneuvers but I can’t wrap my head around the gears and how they work. I’ve dumped my engine on the highway and it was scary. I just don’t understand rpm and all that
@@antoniorodriguez162 get a Honda they’re very user friendly most of the newer bikes have shift indicators and it shows what gear you’re in on the display.
LoL.
I’m literally on lunch break on my mfp class and wasn’t getting this in class. The way you explained it is so much easier to get. Thank you for posting this! I’m more confident going back into the class.
So glad I could help! Good luck on the rest of your course and happy riding! =)
So Alicia did you pass!?
@@ameliaingle1613 yes I did! 😀
@@SALTxTHExWOUND thank you!

“Take offs” were the hardest for me. All of a sudden it clicked. It becomes almost natural when your brain clicks with the mechanics. I’ve discovered that learning the “feel” when riding as opposed to a rigid step by step process did wonders.
just up shifted for the first time thanks to this video, got comfortable with it and was able to get up to 5th without stalling/falling/crashing
Thanks for watching! Happy to help :)
@@SALTxTHExWOUND Hey man! If you want to brake really fast, and you're in 6th, can you first stand still and then shift all the way down by just holding the clutch and shifting down?
@@Bible_Ben yes, you can do that if you pull clutch while braking or slowing down. But if you slow down without pulling in clutch, the bike will stall as the gear is too high for that speed. With practice, you'll be able to downshift and brake simultaneously. This will also engage engine braking which makes the bike slow down faster than just braking
What bike do you ride? None of the bikes I've ridden stall when shifting up or down in motion
who else is watching without a bike because they can’t afford it
🙋
Me , for now
Well 😂
Just bought a Kawasaki z650. My first bike at 45 years old. This was one of the best instructional videos I've seen. Thanks for doing it slowly.
That’s what I bought last week at 41! Happy riding!!
how did it go? I just got one at 53. terrified to right on highway. How long did that take
Just bought my first bike yesterday off the lot. First time on any bike since I was like 9. Stalled it 10 times before I successfully launched, definitely embarrassing. Make sure that when you down shift you rev match to slow you down. When you only hold clutch in and gear down it might feel groggy and shaky. So that your engine speed will match transmission and so on.

So glad my video can help others! Thank you for watching! :)
I’m just starting out learning an honestly this video just helped me so much. I now know why I kept stalling is because I didn’t know when taking off you push the gas while letting the clutch out slowly. I was letting the clutch out all the way then trying to push on the gas. I can’t wait to try again tomorrow. Thank you! How do you know what gear you need to be in?
Every bike is different, you have to feel it. 1st gear takes me to about 25 mph then I do second until 45, then I switch to third until I’m like 65 on the highway which I switch to 4th my bike only has 4 gears
You're rpm's and obviously the speed you are going i believe 🤔
As a super beginner, you have a great way of explaining things. New subscriber!
I’m a new rider too, I haven’t made it to 2nd gear tho 😭😭😂 maybe next week

I did my CBT a few months ago and shifting gears was the hardest part for me. (Never actually passed it because I was to scared to go out on the road in the end) 😂😂 good video though 😃
Shannøn W hey we’ve all been there don’t worry, I would say practice on something small like a dirt bike or a grom/z125 👍🏻
Out of interest, as im looking to do my CBT in the next month, what about the shifting was the hardest part ? do you mean as if coming up to a junction or stop ? or turning ? or just putting it into first to begin with ?
I still am and I really wish I had someone to ride with. My husband doesn’t ride. He can ride, but not as enthusiastic as me.
@@Uruz_7 im learning, my class is in a hour, clutch control and starting is my hardest part, everything else i do fine, I struggle to move from a standstill idk why I just keep stalling it or making the bike jerk itself instead of smoothly

Counterbalance would be a good one. Tip I would use all the time is ALWAYS pull the clutch in that way the bike won't stall or take off because without the clutch the bike is useless.
William Rodgers agreed! Good tip 😁👍🏻
Yo bro good tutorial! How about tutorials on panic braking and situations when a pedestrian suddenly crosses the road, and also what to do when approaching a curved road, after that I'm all set to buy a motorcycle lol.
A vid will always be better but I can give some quick tips on what you asked. If a pedestrian gets into the way, you want to either brake with both front and back make sure it's steady and smooth pressure so you don't skid. Let's say you are going too fast to stop swerve out of the way without any brakes. if you are a beginner it is best to always do your shifting and braking before a corner. if you're in a corner and you upshift and you let out the clutch too heavy the back wheel could lose traction and same thing goes with if you downshift at higher rpm with improper clutch release. As you get better with the bike you will be able to brake and shift in a corner but it's best to do it well before the turn when you are just starting off.
@@NasdaqManiac thanks I'm starting too and I am a little scared to go in the big streets
Quick tip: don’t slam the front brake with your four fingers you’ll fall. Use your forefinger and your middle finger it’ll make you stop immediately and smoothly

Yeah u need gear, u can wreak at almost any speed
When stopping, can you downshift a few gears without releasing the clutch? Such as coming from 3rd gear to a dead stop quick?
Yes you can, just hold the clutch in and proceed to shift down
Thankyou for posting this vide this is by far the easiest way someone has explained and demonstrated how to ride a bike!
Thank you so much!
I'm planning on getting a bike hopefully within this month so these videos have helped me for when I get it I'll have the basics down
i still dont get how to changed from 1st to 2nd, isit must change to N then can change to 2nd or can just go from 1st to 2nd. like must push up twice time?
I know it seems confusing, but it will only go into N if you barely shift, and I might VERYYYY lightly, otherwise it will skip N and go from 1st to 2nd. Once you do it a few times you will understand :)
My problem with shifting and downshifting I can only do it smoothly when I do the motions slow rather then all at once, any tips on that? TIA

Before u know it, u will be using all three components simultaneously
thanks for the learning video. i just bought my very first honda sabre 2001 limited edition...now i have to get the shifting out of my head to the bike....!!!.....thanks for the video....it really helped.!
This is the best video I have seen on how 2 shift. Thank you, 😁
Thank you for watching!
so, when do you need to shift? ive had this question for a while. when do you know you need to shift into 2nd gear? and when do you need to know when to downshift back to 1/2?
There's many reasons why you would shift gears. As a general rule of thumb, people shift gears to go faster. It's that simple. If your in first, you need to shift to second to go faster. Same thing goes in third fourth etc. Now downshifting is actually a bit more complicated. It's not as simple as just going slower, because if you wanted to stop, you would use your brake and not your clutch right? Downshifting is just essentially preparing for a stop, so when you start moving again your more prepared. Let me give you an example. Let's just say your in third gear and your going 50 on a road. You see the light turning yellow. Downshift. Your in second. Keep in mind you have to do this within a certain distance from the stop. You can't just downshift 10 meters before the light, because you won't have enough time to stop. So now that you are in second, you essentially already stopped. All you have to do from here is pull in your clutch, hit the brakes to stop the bike, put it in first and wait until the light turns green. Some people unironically downshift to first gear before they actually stop the bike, but I don't think that's necessary. If you want to do it go ahead. I prefer stopping at second then downshifting to first. I feel like first gear is just a gear that was made for the bike to start going after a stop. No one should downshift into first gear while their moving (my opinion always). Anyway good luck dude hope this helped you!
@@antoniochiorazzo7974 that was some good Information, but im really confused, when your in 4 gear for example, can you downshift to 3, or if your on 5 can you down shift to 4 ? If so then how ?
@@antoniochiorazzo7974 great explanation! I’m taking the certification class and kept tripping up because I was in 2nd going fast and they wanted us to do a quick stop. My brain was having a hard time downshifting and then doing the quick stop then I would end up letting go of the clutch and stalling. Going to try braking then shifting into first
When you switch gears you usually. Switch to second or the next gear at around half rpm or a little more for smoother transition
Good day sir, do you also need to release the clutch lever slowly when you're changing from 1st gear and so on? Thank you
No after than you can pull in and just let go
@@SimplyKelp you can controll the release of the lever abit but nothing near as slow as when pulling off in first
Great question

When to give gas when upshifting 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 after release the clutch or when friction is on
theRedCat give gas after you upshift on every gear xP otherwise you wont move fast haha
Clutch, throttle, and gear are used simultaneously
When I was learning, I never understood how the bike would know if I wanted it in neutral or to shift from first to second or second to first LOL.....🤣🤣
Mac 215 lmao I think we’ve all been there, I remember thinking “ok now shift like a sissy girl to get it into neutral” 😂🤣
Mac 215 what’s the answer? Haha
Thumps up buddy, you helped much about the gear shifting
I ride an ebike that looks like a Suzuki and I've always wanted a real one. So by seeing how easy it is to ride it once you know how to do it decently helps so much
But why do I wanna shift gears? I can't just stay in 1st gear and do everything or stay in 6 and have all the power? Newborn here.
You want to be in the right gear at the right time and you downshift when coming to a stop
You shift gears to match the engine speed. If you don’t change gears you will run out of rpm and engine will cut out and you will not be able to go any faster. You shift gears to go faster and if you’re just cruising then it’s better to cruise in the highest gear your bike allows to save on fuel and engine wear.
just like riding a bicycle, you get to a point where your legs are spinning so fast but your not going any faster. But then you shift a gear and there becomes more resistance when you pedal and you can keep a steady "pedal rotation" or pedal harder to go faster.
to put it simply mate, you stay in first and you won’t go above 15mph. stay in sixth and you’ll stall when you try to pull off
M B bb
When you’re trying to go to a stop, do you need to apply throttle to downshift?
If youre in an emergency you just wanna pull the lever in and downshift while applying pressure to brakes. Not too much pressure tho cuz if you apply too much on the front brake youre like to be thrown headway off the bike and if you apply too much on the back you'll still slide. If youre on a casual ride tho when downshifting you can blip the throttle to properly prepare the engine for the lower gear👏🏾
@BlokjesRacing so when downshifting you wanna just blip the throttle when you push down the shifter while holding in the clutch. After you've done this then you release the clutch
@BlokjesRacing so you're in 5th and you wanna go to 4th you're gonna: press in the clutch and as you blip the throttle you downshift and release the clutch
@BlokjesRacing you have to pull in the clutch.. If you don't pull in the clutch then the bike will still accelerate
@BlokjesRacing no need blipping the throttle while downshifting if ur in the right gear
Thank you dude. You are the man and I appreciate your detailed explanations and patience
I appreciate that!
What about rev matching!?
Spencer Gedert rev matching is mostly need when you’re riding harder than I am right now, so I might do a video on that also 👍🏻
