- In this episode I take our 1968 Triumph TR6C for a ride around our test loop.

The looks of the late 60s high pipe triumphs are timeless
Chopper guys took a lot of styling cues from the Brits. Like Sonny Bargers exhaust on "sweet cocaine", the bike he rode in the movie "Hells Angels '69".
Rode a 1970 T100R Daytona daily for many years in the '90s in and all around NYC. Excellent acceleration and even better looks. Darted through a few multi car crashes dropping a gear and wringing it out wide as I could. Never an issue with highway speeds. The 500s were cheaper to find than the 650s, but those twin Amals made up for the loss of cubes. Vibration was an issue for the electrics, lost a coil going over the GW Bridge once, nerve wracking experience, but lucky it was just a loose connection. Sounded tremendous in tunnels cracking open the throttle. Miss it to this day, do not miss Whitworth tools.
I've had my 64 TR6 for about 6 months now. Going back and forth between the Triumph and my other bike (a 1975 Honda CB750) has been easier than I expected. You quickly become ambidextrous (or ambikedexrous) when it comes to left and right shift.
I subscribed because you guys earned it. Back when I lived on the north side in Youngstown I bought a stock '67 Bonneville in '78 for $400. Let's keep the time machines alive.
The 1968 650s were the most beautiful of all with the stainless fenders...my brother had a 68 Bonneville which he left me to ride while he was stationed overseas. I was in high school at the time and was the coolest guy at school because of it...I so loved that bike.

My first road bike in '79 was a '69 ex police TR6. Not only did it not have any indicators it had no mirrors at all and they had removed the police issue speedometer! Changing on the right became normal and I just had to hope I wasn't speeding too much. Mine too had a 750 Morgo top end kit on it so it went beautifully and stopped ok right up to the time I broke the front brake cable...luckily not in a dangerous situation :) I missed that bike so much thirty five years later I bought a '96 Thunderbird triple with a mild cafe makeover which I will never sell because it makes me feel the same as the TR6 did but without the oil lea... oh, of course we're not talking about those ;)

Great video. I had a friend that had one exactly like that. The single carb gives more low end torque for playing off road. If they still made them I would buy one. The new bikes just do not have the character of those old 50' and 60's bikes, especially the Brit bikes. I have been mostly a Harley guy since 1955 when I bought a 1942 "45" flat head when I was 14. But have always had soft spot for the British bikes that were light weight, but very easy to handle. When they bought out Indian they built a 500 single, the Indian Woodsman which was also a fun bike. Those old style scramblers beat anything out there today in my opinion. But, that is the era that I grew up in. I still ride a 99 Harley Softail Custom at 82 years old.

The "Fonz" had a knuckle, but had problems starting it the first episode, and ran the 650 the rest of the show. I rode a 64 650 Triumph in 76-83. I had a 74 sportster at the same time, but it had serious "electric start problems", and no kicker. I rode from Memphis to Chicago for almost a year, stationed for school in "Millington, Tenn.", to home, Chicago, as a young marine.

I have a friend in Meigs County who has about 45 motorcycles in his collection, mostly Triumphs and BSA's from the 60's and early 70's. Twin cylinders, and the old triples. He even has some Triumph TRX's which I don't even remember. He also has other brands like Excelsior Henderson, Indian, Harleys, MV Augusta, Benelli and others. Most are rare bikes with the original paint and a collection worth seeing.
I asked him the first time I saw his collection if he had a mop handy because by the time I'm done looking there might be some drool on the floor.

So cool! I think it'd be pretty rough to get used to the right side shifter!
You get used to it pretty quick. It took me a couple days of riding. I go back and forth between my Triumph and my Honda and it hasn't been a problem with the different side shift and brake.
0:18 I have a few questions about my Grandfather's 71 Triumph Trident. Not sure if I can send you pics but this old man is a T150T. And that's my question. I've seen the T150 and T150V... can't seem to find anything on the T150T.
Beautiful bike! I have a 1967 triumph tiger that needs to be taken down to the sludge trap and rebuilt. I am looking for any information available to do it myself since nobody will even touch it at this time. Really interested in the 750 upgrade kit too!
...SOLD.... New permanent home is on the Central California Coast. Many compliments to the restorer the late Roger Reese Jones of Atlanta who's attention to detail with a lot imagination speaks for itself.

@@throttlecompany I am a restorer also, spotted this bike on line and with just a little talking with the seller it was easy to understand how well the bike done, just look at the color of the pipes (no blueing)... Its a show piece for riding!!!
Well then I think it’s sold once more since then. We sold it a few months back. Headed to New England I think.

They look nice but they're a pain to start because of the high compression ratio of the pistons. If you're over 60 and don't weigh over 175 lbs forget it.
The compression ratio on a Triumph TR6C is actually relatively low. Kick starting any motorcycle is a matter of tuning and technique.
Do you know what kind of handlebars are on the bike? I just bought a 64 TR6...which I believe is the model Steve McQueen used to ride. : ) So far I'm really enjoying it. So much character in these old bikes. Mine has the standard western style handle bars I believe. I like the wider handlebars you've got on yours.

How did you made de Led headlight working? Normally those Bikes have positive earth and a led don't want to work.
i always wondered how this ride compared to a Norton Commando which i own.

Beautiful Triumph, but it"s running rich if it starts and idles cold like that with no choke.

@@throttlecompany I saw that. I've owned a '72 TR6RV 650 since 1975. I'm on my 2nd Amal 930 without choke. It starts first kick after tickling, even in cold weather, but won't idle until warmed up a couple of minutes. That is how it should be if the carb is set right without a choke.
I agree with what you are saying in general. In the video you see me tickle it and you hear me keeping the idle up by hand. That bike was tuned well it has sold since this video and always ran perfectly.
@@throttlecompany I should have said that I meant idling with no throttle help. Mine idles if I hold the throttle open slightly or blip it.
