Which biblical laws apply to Christians?

    What is the modern Christian’s relationship to the Old Testament law in the Bible? Which laws are we supposed to obey? Do the Ten Commandments still apply? Here's an overview of the story of God's people and their relationship to biblical law through history. It'll answer a lot of the questions you have (and maybe even some you didn't)!
    Knowing the overarching story of God’s people and their relationship to the law helps us get our bearings as we dive into different passages during our Bible reading or Bible Study groups. It also helps us to identify questionable teachings, such as those coming out of the Hebrew Roots Movement (aka Torahism or return to Torah). And it sheds some light on the divergence between Judaism and Christianity in the early centuries.
    If you’re a believer in God today, this is your story. This is our shared history! The faith journey that believers are living today is the continuation of this same story.

    10 commandments are not part of Mosaic law. They are eternal moral precepts given to all mankind, not just the Hebrews. They were placed inside the ark of the covenant, as opposed to all other laws placed outside the ark. That was done to make a clear distinction between the two. The 10 commandments is the moral law given to all created beings, whether angels or humans. How do we know that? All throughout the Bible, whenever there is a mention of fall of Lucifer ( angels) or Adam ( humans) there is a reference to sin. What is sin? Transgression of the law. Which one? 10 commandments.Therefore, it is critical two make demarcation between Mosaic laws ( for the Hebrews) which were nailed to the cross and 10 commandments which were not. 10 commandments define sin, and we are supposed to fulfil the law ( like Jesus), love is fulfilling of the law. To keep God's commandments is synonymous with love. Blessings

As Augustine famously said, “If you believe what you like in the Gospel, and reject what you don't like, it is not the Gospel you believe, but yourself.” Those who take that position don't usually think about it this way, but they are putting themselves in a position of authority over the Scriptures. When God commanded Peter to kill and eat? What was his response to kill and eat? He told God No! I have never eaten unclean. This is a few years after Jesus died. They kept the mosaic law. They kept the sabbath. We are saved 100% by faith. But we should also wanna do what the Bible says to do..
      I’m not trying to fight at all … just open your eyes… when you read the prophets they are prophesying restoration of Israel. During the millennial reign.. we will be keeping the sabbath and festival and if the nations don’t show up for sukkot it won’t even rain on there land. Now if you didn’t know.. we will be doing sacrifices in the millennial reign.. did you know that? See the problem is we have learned the Bible from men and haven’t studied enuff to show ourselves approved.

      This is a Hebrew faith.. we are grafted in… we don’t take over the promises… those are Israeli and we cling to them.
      And an even bigger topic is who the true Hebrews are.. cause the people living in Israeli right now… are not what Jesus looked like… 1948 man made Israeli is not the fulfillment of prophecy. They don’t dwell safely. They hate our messiah and Christian’s. They want a new messiah. They wanna build third temple. It's amazing to me that a man as learned as you appear to be, will be using Acts chapter 10 and saying that that vision negates us keeping Yah's dietary restrictions.
    Peter interprets his own vision after he goes to the centurion's home. He literally says that God has made man clean and what God has made clean he should not call common or unclean. It's not about pork it's about people.

    • @TheBiblicalRoots
      @TheBiblicalRoots  2 роки тому +15

      Hello, Mr. Batman. Well, at least you find me amazing in one sense. :-)
      I hear what you're saying, but we need to remember that Scripture inextricably links unclean people and unclean food: “You shall therefore separate the clean beast from the unclean, and the unclean bird from the clean. You shall not make yourselves detestable by beast or by bird or by anything with which the ground crawls, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean. You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.” (Leviticus 20:25-26)
      God decreed a set of foods unclean for Israel (Lev 11), but Gentiles weren’t held to those laws (See Deut 14:21). So under the Mosaic Covenant, what you ate revealed who you were. This is why in Acts 10 God used a vision of food to indicate a change in the status of people. When the voice said of the food, “What God has made clean, do not call common” (Acts 10:15), Peter understood it signaled a change in the status of people as well. The holiness laws his ancestors had lived under for a millennium and a half- which categorized certain food and certain people unclean-had changed.
      If we take Peter’s vision solely as a metaphor for the Gentiles, we run into two significant problems. First, on what basis are we willingly allowing for a change in the Law of Moses on the issue of people, but not food? It's an arbitrary standard based on a pre-commitment to keeping the kosher food laws. Second, if the vision was solely given as a metaphor for the Gentiles, the command to “kill and eat” (v. 13) and the declaration “What God has made clean, do not call common” (v. 15) would be based on a falsehood. Yahweh would be teaching that formerly impure people are now clean by _falsely_ declaring formerly impure food clean. There is no precedent in scripture for God doing such a thing. Moreover, Yahweh does not teach false things or abide deceit. “It is impossible for God to lie” (Heb 6:18).
      Blessings,
      Rob

    Thanks for pointing out that the relationship to the law for the people of Israel was covenantal. This is imperative to understand in respect to the promise of the new covenant, where sanctification is defined as an internal work, clearly because of God's sending of The Messiah, who is our righteousness and holiness. This is why Paul defines our relationship to the law as being entirely re-defined by the freedom found uniquely in Christ (Galatians 3:22). Keep up the good work!

    Question. If covenant meants agreement then there would be a new agreement but not a new law? Same law, new agreement. Ofcourse we wouldn't be under the leviticial priesthood laws bc there isn't a leviticial priesthood anymore and no need for sacrifices because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. He paid the penalty of death for our lawlessness. If Jesus obeyed the Torah, his disciples obeyed the Torah as well as Paul and other authors of the bible why wouldn't we need to as followers of christ? If we are grafted into the branches as Gentiles and there for apart of the olive tree which is isreal wouldn't that mean we have the same laws as isreal. Jesus says to inherit eternal life we are to obey his fathers commands. I realize he saved Us but what sets us apart if we do not follow his father's commands. Jesus was the word made flesh and the word is truth. Jesus was righteous which means he followed the law. Satan was the lawless one he told us we didn't have to obey God's laws. Satan can not obey God's laws because he is a liar and by us as followers of christ abiding in him, obey his fathers commands is what sets us apart from the ways of the world and the lawless one.

    I’m learning more and more how an understanding of the biblical covenants proves that the Hebrew Roots perspective is unbiblical. When you see that some commands are specific to a certain covenant, you see that one cannot simply cite a commandment to show it is binding.
    Priests had certain washings that were commanded under the Mosaic covenant, but now, there are no true priests under that covenant. In the New Covenant, we are all priests, with Jesus our high priest, and so we all are commanded to do the washing (baptism), but only once, because in it we identify with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, which were once for all time.

    the question becomes, if the only two commands are to love God and people. how do we do that?
    it seems like now that every other command is gone, we are left to our own interpretation of what love is.
    example:
    it used to be Gods command that his people were not to worship him the way pagans did by making up their own feasts to him (golden calf)
    but now can we love God and celebrate man made feasts to God. (chrismas)
    It seems with only just two commands that we are leaving a lot out and a lot would be left up to people's own interpretation of what they believe love is.
    And what exactly would be the definition of sin now?

      This is the working of the Holy Spirit. He’s there to convict the world of sin, the believer of his righteousness. If you understand your identity in Christ you are much less focused on sin and more-so focused on Christ living through you. If all a person focuses on is sin managment I think it is worth asking, have they died?

    For someone who claims to be a theologian, you display an appalling ignorance of Scripture and Hebrew history. Contrary to what you claim:
    1. Gentiles living in Israel were not expected to be Torah-observant. Although they were not supposed to work on the sabbath, they were not required to circumcise their sons or eat only kosher foods, for example.
    2. The Torah was not built piecemeal with the addition of extra mitzvot each time Israel disobeyed God.
    3. Although the 10 northern tribes were taken into captivity and Israel never recovered as a nation, those tribes were not wiped off the map. Many Israelites fled south to the nation of Judah. All 12 tribes were thus affected by the Babylonian captivity and a remnant of all 12 later returned to the Promised Land.
    4. The Promised Land did not become a theocracy post-exile; that is what it was between Moses and King Saul. Post-exile, it became a hierocracy.
    5. The commandments referred to in Matthew 22:36-40 were not introduced for the new covenant; they merely affirmed existing summaries of the old one (cf. Deuteronomy 6:5; Leviticus 19:18). The greatest commandment encapsulates the first four of the 10 commandments and the second greatest commandment encapsulates the last six.
    6. Your assertion that obedience to even the 10 commandments has been done away with on the basis of Matthew 22:36-40 is not supported by anything written in the NT. One wonders what you have to say about: 1 Corinthians 7:19; Matthew 5:28 (cf. Exodus 20:17); Matthew 19:16-19 (cf. Exodus 20:12-16: Leviticus 19:18); Romans 13:9 (cf. Exodus 20:13-15; 17: Leviticus 19:18); Ephesians 6:1-3 (cf. Exodus 20:12); Colossians 3:5 (cf. Exodus 20:3, 14, 17); 1 Corinthians 8:6 (cf. Exodus 20:3)?
    7. Acts 10 has nothing to do with God declaring all foods clean. As the narrative plainly shows, Peter's vision was allegorical and the reality concerned sharing the gospel with gentiles. Given the ritual purity context of Mark 7, even Mark 7:19 only applies to _kosher_ foods. Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 10:23-30 concerns asking questions about whether food has been offered in sacrifice, not whether it is kosher.
    8. In saying the old covenant has become obsolete, the writer does not say it has already been abolished; rather, he says it _will soon_ disappear. You say, however, that the old covenant has in fact already disappeared. Yet your own defense of the Law's ongoing utility confirms that it has not.
    9. Your claim that the Law of Moses concerned only outward acts and behaviors is false. The two greatest commandments already prove otherwise. Moreover, the 1st and 10th Commandments (which bookend the rest) clearly concern one's thoughts. As an example if this, Jesus' teaching about lust in Matthew 5:28 addresses the 10th commandment, not the 7th. In the Septuagint, the verb translated 'covet' in Exodus 20:17 & Deuteronomy 5:21 is ἐπιθυμέω (epithumeó), the same word Jesus used for lust at Matthew 5:28. Paul used the corresponding noun, ἐπιθυμία (epithumia), in Romans 7:7 & 13:9 when referring to Exodus 20:17 & Deuteronomy 5:21. Paul drives the point home in Romans 7:7-8:
    _I should not have known what it is to covet_ (ἐπιθυμία - epithumia) _if the law had not said, "You shall not covet_ (ἐπιθυμέω - epithumeó) _." But sin, finding opportunity in the commandment, wrought in me all kinds of covetousness_ (ἐπιθυμία - epithumia).
    In other words, lust and covetousness are the same thing in Scripture. As for Adam and Eve in the garden, perhaps you'd care to explain how either could have violated the 10th commandment?
    10. Christ does not give us his righteousness. You should read 2 Corinthians 5:21, which says Christ was _made_ sin for us (not that our sin was imputed to Him) and that we _become_ the righteousness of God through union with Christ (not just have it imputed to us). See also Romans 3:22; 5:19; Galatians 3:13 & Philippians 3:9.
    There is no scriptural support for the imputation of:
    a. Adam's guilt or sin nature to anyone;
    b. our guilt to Christ; or
    c. Christ's righteousness to us.
    These are just inferences Calvinists and others have imported into Scripture (i.e. eisegesis) to support their doctrine.
    What we do see, though, is that faithfulness to God was reckoned to Abraham as righteousness (Romans 4:3, 9, 22). See also Romans 4:5-6 for righteousness on the basis of faithfulness being imputed to us also.

    I have a question... I'm looking at this logically. Why did God (Yahweh) give the Law to Moses for ISRAEL the first time instead of humanity in general? If God knew what was about to happen between the tribes and their downfall, wouldn't He have given the Law to humanity as a whole from the get-go (since He is omnipotent)? Therefore, the whole human world on every continent would have been aware of the first Laws and their breakage.

    Hebrew Roots adherents seem to have a problem with Paul, so much so that they come close to rejecting him as an apostle and some fully do so. There is a problem there: Peter validated Paul’s ministry and instructed believers to observe Paul’s teaching. So to reject Paul is to reject Peter.

    This question of what laws do I keep and what are no longer necessary bothered me for years, until I felt God leading me to dig deeper for myself. At a very basic level, what is sin - 1Jn3:4 - Sin is transgression of the Law. Jesus came to die a horrible death to free us from the penalty of our sin, our least response if we say we love Him would be to stop sinning, i.e simply keep the Law. Paul himself says - I would not have known sin if it were not for the Law. So I do agree there is some division in the Law and I will get to that in the next paragraph, but there is Law that defines sin, and law that defines what righteous living is, there is law that defines iniquity and law that defines holiness. All these laws either align us with God's intrinsic nature or get us to go against God's intrinsic nature, and since God does not change, we can rest assured the definition of sin, holiness , iniquity and righteousness do not change either. This should make us VERY cautious about dismissing any Law without an EXPLICIT NT statement undoing what was EXPLICITY recorded by Moses. By making the Law something that is ONLY attached to the Sinai covenant , this is very dangerous teaching that leads one by the nose through a selection of verses that seems to confirm this notion that so much of the Laws recorded by Moses are no longer in effect. Anti Law teachers like to use verses from Paul's letters to "prove" that the Law is not for new covenant believers. In all honestly - I myself could put together a collection of verses from Paul's writings to prove the Law is no longer necessary and it would be very convincing for new believers. But in the very same breath I can also gather a collection of verses from Paul's writings to prove that we should still be very Law observant - so what is the reality then? If you chose to believe that the Law is done away with by favoring those verses of Paul, then you will have a problem with Paul's other writings, the writings of the apostles, the first 2 thirds of scripture as well as the very severe warnings of Jesus - "get away from me - I never knew you , you workers of Lawlessness" Note Jesus does not tell the Law keepers to get away, keeping the Law is in line with the Father's will as Jesus says - not all who call me Lord Lord.... Who calls Jesus Lord - is it not the Christian community ? but only those who DO the will of the Father, i.e keep his Law? (Mat 7)
    Now let's be clear, no amount of law keeping will justify you. We cannot be justified by Law, only by faith lest anyone should boast so we can then come into good works defined before hand by our Father - clear? (that we should walk in them... a phrase often used in the OT to get people to follow the Law) So now for the next part, there were laws that defined sin and holiness etc, then there were laws that were the remedy for sin, or laws to deal with transgressions -- even though this remedy was not perfect, it served as an atonement for sin - a covering, not a redemption from it. Also a long list of punishments and curses were pronounced. It is really necessary to carefully examine what transpired at Mt Sinai, otherwise we just lump all 3 covenants as one and the same and this leads to misunderstanding. The first covenant offered at Mt Sinai, was a marriage to a free woman, an offer and then an acceptance by the MIXED MULTITUDE i.e not only Israelites. There was no mention of an Earthly high priest, tabernacle or Levitical system and a complex set of atonements and sacrifices. To keep this short - problem number 1 - the people feared and did not want to hear God's voice, and basically requested a mediator between them and God. The covenant progression continues, the book is sprinkled with blood and the covenant is now sealed - i.e it cannot be added to. Then God calls Moses up the mountain again to give him the testimony and a law? How can you add law now to the covenant once it has already been blood ratified, this was God making an allowance for their fear and stony hearts - so God gives the law pertaining to the Tabernacle and the Earthly high priest - so now His presence will not be out in the open due to their fear, and instead of a kingdom of priests, we have an additional layer of mediation with the Earthly high priest. But it gets worse... they break the covenant in less than 40 days, resulting in them incurring the death penalty - which they cannot hope to pay because we all already will die at least once. Death reigned from Adam to Moses (Rom). Moses intercedes and manages to negotiate with God, but the next 2 covenants that happen have a complex system of sacrifices included, a Levitical system, Tabernacle Earthly high priest. From the book of Hebrews it is quite clear that this was God's permissive will and was no longer necessary as Jesus replaces all those elements with better arrangements. Jesus also frees us from the curse of the Law not the Law itself. This slaughtering of animals and people bringing offerings became something which obviously made devout people of God feel quite confident in. Now imagine the massive mind shift if you place yourself in the shoes of a first century Jew that regularly brought your sacrifices and offerings, now to let that go and have faith in what Jesus accomplished, it must have been quite a challenge, it is a lot easier for me today to trust in what Jesus did, as I know no other way of re-conciliation. In Gal 3, Paul speaks of Law added because of transgressions, then he goes on to say these were a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, now that Christ is come we no longer need the school master. What was added ? Do you see now Paul is not referring to the whole Law, but those elements that were added because of transgressions. Paul I believe sometimes refers to this as the Law of Moses, the Law of Moses cannot be the entire first 5 books, because Law existed since Adam's time. I know this statement can get a lot of flak, because the first 5 books are referred to as Torah or instructions and were all written by Moses, so many believe the "Law of Moses is the entire first 5 books".
    The massive slaughtering and blood letting is most likely what Paul associates with the ministry of death. In addition the letter of the Law without the Spirit results in death, - the letter killeth but the Spirit gives life. Trying to follow the Law without God's nature placed on the inside of us - well that is not going to get us very far. Now what does God say about the new covenant and Law ? There are a few verses we can draw on, but God clearly tells us He will write His laws on our inward parts - for what reason? so that we can ignore them? no He states He will cause us to walk in them - this is the reason primarily stated for the New covenant. Eze 11, Eze 36. Now fortunately He does not say He will write His commandments on our inward parts because that would give people the opportunity to say oh it's only the ten commandments, well actually it's only 9 because that one commandment that starts with "Remember" that is the one we can safely forget, and if you are Catholic you only have to obey 8 commandments..... (I am being sarcastic here). Let us look at this verse often quoted "Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
    Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
    Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
    Note 1) The covenant is not with Gentiles or other peoples (oops! if you say the Law was only given to Israel then how do you embrace the covenant because that was only to Israel as well)
    Note 2) God references the FIRST covenant at Mt Sinai - the one which they broke as a reference. Now we know the first covenant did NOT include the Levitical system, Earthly High priest, a building where the presence of God will be hidden, but that first covenant did include reference to the feasts as example. Long before the covenant though we see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob being chosen because ...... Gen 26:3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
    Gen 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
    Gen 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. So God did not have to be explicit to Abraham when he made a promise and covenant to Him , because Abraham already kept statutes laws commandments etc. So to make the Law all about the Mosaic covenant is simply downright mis-leading.
    Difficulty with Paul's writings? they can be explained, but only by someone who understands the covenants and prophets and Law the way Paul understood them. there are some really good explanations for those difficult verses of that "SEEM" to contradict the rest of scripture - don't be mislead.

    Dear Mr. Solberg,
    Thanks so much for your beautiful analysis and summary!
    I do believe however, that there’s an even greater truth in clarifying our relationship to the Old Testament Law as having been completely nullified. Certainly all of the Bible is God-breathed and should be studied, but context is everything!
    A New Testament believer has Christ’s laws - basically to believe in Hi, and love others as He loved us, not Old Testament Law written on our hearts and minds. (Hebrews 10:16 specifically changes Jeremiah‘s “Law” to “Laws” for that purpose). Our motivation now is to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our daily living, not be guided by Old Testament Law. Paul in many passages makes clear that we are not under the Law, Christ is the end of the Law, and believers are dead to the Law; as in Galatians 2:19: "For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live for God."
    We should have therefore no relationship whatsoever to something that we are dead to.
    Moreover, our New Testament guidance as to sin is whatever is not of faith. As Paul states in Romans 14:23: "But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin."
    I pray that what I believe to be the greater truths of the New Testament will be edifying and truth that sets free. Thanks again for your diligent and thoughtful videos!
    Your brother in Christ,
    Jose

    By your interpretation, there are four requirements for salvation
    1.abstain from things offered to idols
    2.from blood
    3.from things strangled
    4.from sexual immorality.
    What about faith in Jesus?

      The requirements to salvation is having faith in God. Which means to have loyalty to him, which also means to believe and trust in him. God is called the word in the Bible, Jesus, and if you have faith in him you would believe his word. His word is Statutes, Judgements, and Commandments. And if you believe or have faith in the Lord then you would repent to God, you would get baptize and you would stay away from sin which is transgression of the Law.

    The 10 commandments are not required but are desired from God. Being that they were written by the actual finger of God they are eternal. Jesus himself said if you love Me you will follow my commandments.

      Hi, William. I agree with you that baptism is an important part of following Jesus! I believe every Christian who can should baptized in water to declare their identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (Rom. 6:3-4). I just don't believe baptism rises to the level of a _requirement_ for salvation. If it was required it would mean what Jesus did wasn't enough and we have to add our own works to truly be saved. But the Bible says, "By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is *_not your own doing;_* it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Eph 2:8-9).

      Discernment is a gift of God The Holy Spirit. I’m just a spectator and enjoy reading and trying to understand what God is wanting for us. My pastor and I have a hard time discerning the messages in a like understanding.
      May we all someday understand and have unity with God.

      My Church says one Baptism with water is sufficient. Then why must we have Confirmation? Isn’t confirmation a second Baptism in The Spirit?
      The ceremonies are similar in that it is proclaiming our belief in the Apostles Creed. Our Belief in God and wanting to live a Godly life.

    If Gentiles were never under the law of Moses, then why does Paul say the following? "For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are ALL under sin... Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that EVERY mouth may be stopped, and ALL the world may become guilty before God... for by the law is the knowledge of sin... for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory" (Romans 3:9, 19-20, 23). To be a sinner, you must admit that you broke God's laws (all of them), for "whomever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness" (1 John 3:4). When the Gentiles repent of their sins, what then are they repenting of? How can they be guilty if they were never obligated to follow the laws of Moses?
    God's laws were/are meant for all of humanity. He chose Israel to be the nation that would shine forth the wisdom and righteousness His laws (Deuteronomy 4:6-8). Thus they were not only to draw all of the nations to God through their obedience, but God was preparing them to be royal priests to teach the nations His laws. This is, after all, the role of the priests (Malachi 2:7). Instead of drawing the nations closer to God, they broke His law, profaned His name, and sought to be like the Gentiles. Up to this point, they have not completed the mission because of sin. But God also allowed this to happen because they, too, needed to be committed to disobedience (just like the rest of humanity), so that God can have mercy on all and that salvation would come through Him, and Him alone (Romans 11:30-32). Keep in mind, though, that God is not finished with His people (Israel), for "the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable" (11:29). God will use them to do what He intended from the beginning--to shine forth His law before the nations. This time they will not fail. Why? Because God's word does not fail.
    In Zechariah, we read that in the end, "it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and keep the Feast of Tabernacles (which is commanded in the law of Moses)" (14:16-19). Why this feast? I am sure that there are many reasons, but here is one that is worth noting:
    Deuteronomy 31:10-13
    "At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of release, at the FEAST OF TABERNACLES, when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God in the place which He chooses, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, and that their children who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess."
    Every seven years (the year of release), on the Feast of Tabernacles, the law was to be read so all could hear it. Is this a coincidence? Not for those who believe there are no coincidences with God.

    Come on man really!! Your gonna use a few verses out of acts 10 to eating whatever you want. I would urge people to actually read Acts 10 through the middle of Acts 11. None of this conversation is about food. Its clearly about jewish people calling gentiles unclean. Verse 10:28 shows this. Also mark 7 is the same story as matthew 15. Go read that chapter too. Its clearly about jewish traditions of not eating with unwashed hands. Its even explained in matt 15:15-20. All sects of Christianity like to twist and distort verses to make it line up with what they want it to. Be careful and read it for yourself.

    • @TheBiblicalRoots
      @TheBiblicalRoots  Рік тому

      I hear what you're saying, but we need to remember that the Torah inextricably links unclean people and unclean food: “You shall therefore separate the clean beast from the unclean, and the unclean bird from the clean. You shall not make yourselves detestable by beast or by bird or by anything with which the ground crawls, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean. You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have *separated you from the peoples,* that you should be mine.” (Leviticus 20:25-26)

    Matthew 5v17, Think Not, I've not come to destroy the Law-Torah and the Prophets, but to complete. V19 N v20, I'm sure if Christians read the bible in context they would see these Doctrines, cherry 🍒 picking verses and making up false doctrine, Did the Messiah making all food, or meats clean?Acts 10 Peter's vision, the chapter go on to say to call no man unclean. Does Roman 14 v5 actually talking about the 7th Sabbath and that you can have any day as Sabbath Rest. Twisting Scripture making it say what you want it to say. Worship in Spirit and in Truth. The Spirit of Truth.

      Hi, Karl. What do you make of these words from Jesus after His resurrection?
      Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. (Luke 24:44-48)

      Jesus didn´t destroy the Mosaic Law. But through Christ we are born again so that we have died to the Mosaic Law. Read your Bible.
      Romans 7:6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

    Acts 10:9 was about the diverse people, not food....as shown in verse 28.

    • @TheBiblicalRoots
      @TheBiblicalRoots  10 місяців тому

      That's a popular theory, Velvet. But diverse people are not mentioned anywhere in Peter's vision. The only thing the vision speaks of is food: Peter was commanded to kill and eat the animals on the sheet. It says nothing of Gentiles, other nations, or diverse people. So the question is, how did Peter come to associate a vision that was only about food with the Gentiles in 10:28?
      It was because he had been raised a good Torah-observant Jew and knew how interconnected food and people are by the Mosaic law. The Torah directly connects God’s dietary restrictions to Israel’s holiness or “set-apartness” from all other people (ex. Deut 14:21). Peter understood that his vision of food meant a change in the status of people as well. The clean and unclean laws that the Jews had lived under for so many centuries had changed under the New Covenant.
      Here's a video that explains this connection: ua-cam.com/video/RIZyCg-KVyI/v-deo.html

    I noticed a major contradiction. You said that we can't throw out the Mosaic Law because it shows us what sin is but we don't have to observe the laws. If the mosaic law shows us what sin is then should we not practice it to avoid sin?

    • @TheBiblicalRoots
      @TheBiblicalRoots  2 роки тому +9

      Hey, BT! The Law of Moses speaks to more than just what sin is. It also speaks to the ceremonial and national laws of ancient Israel. And the problem arises when we conflate the two. The ceremonial laws were given to Israel alone and have never been incumbent on Gentiles. It's not a sin for Gentiles to eat pork or work on Saturday, for example. The laws of right and wrong, on the other hand, apply to everyone. We know this because (a.) those moral laws existed long before Sinai, and (b.) God never judges other nations for not keeping Shabbat, or eating kosher, or observing the feasts. Israel alone is judged for that. Yet, (c.) other nations _are_ judged for moral evil. Blessings, Rob
