i have no clue about sailing, but a race around the world sounds very fascinating. I think this show will be a daily routine for the next month. I love how you present it.
A word of warning, it can get pretty addictive! ;) Even more so when you follow the tracker and every new update from the boats :D Welcome to sailing :D
Well, Mr. Crunsh. Do you want to know what it is? You are on a dangerous path. The next thing you find yourself doing is to google the terms of the trade in order to understand what it means to gybe vs. tack, what is a Code 0 J1, 2, how these foils work, heck, how sails as such work. Then you will find yourself cheering for a boat / crew (Go Malizia, Auf gehts Boris). Up to this point there is no real danger, it can all be done from your PC but the next fork in your road comes when you search for a boat show in your area, purchase a ticket and go there. At the gate you reach a very decisive moment in your life. A choice whether to go in or turn around... it is your last chance, after this there is no turning back, you turn around, the story ends and you wake up in your bed and you believe whatever you want to believe, you go through that gate, you enter wonderland and find out how deep the ocean goes. Remember: All I am offering is the truth, nothing more. Perhaps I see you on the other side.
I sailed Dragonfly, "not too slow". (Danish waters are quite narrow with this speed) These IMOCAs do roughly double the speed - at rough sea state ....
Amazing!!!! Love Niall’s reporting. Also I am waiting to see what the OBR’s will be posting. During 2017-2018 race their daily reporting was addicting. I hope they will do the same this time 🙏
Great start: the race AND the coverage!! I started following IMOCA60 60 racing with Vendee Globe 2020 and am now a huge fan. Niall’s reporting is exciting, interesting and educational. I sail but not ocean and not with all the tech so love the explanations. The OBRs and teams are getting into their groove I think but looking forward to all of those as well. Thanks to all who work so hard and do such a great job of bringing something like this to onshore viewers❤❤❤
Niall, you probably won’t remember this, but almost a year ago when you made your “What’s going on?” videos, I commented to say how unexpectedly emotional they made me and how it made me hopeful to look toward to the Ocean Race amidst the pandemic and the beginning of the war in Ukraine, and I said “Everybody stay strong, if we can make it through the next year, hopefully we’ll all be here to watch The Ocean Race again.” Well, a lot more chaos happened in 2022, but I’m so happy to be here in the New Year and to know we did make it to another Ocean Race. I know I’ve criticized some of the delays and changes, but at the end of the day, I am so, so grateful to have TOR back. Let’s go!
Totally new to the sailing world after buying an old sloop last summer and completely fell in love with sailing. So much so im even watching sport sailing now and loving it! This is awesome (=
More content like this and of all kinds please!😄 Loved your no music just sounds video on Instagram, with some commentary from the sailors, super raw and speaks for itself! Edit: also I don't know if you've coverage on TikTok but the more sites and formats (e.g.: UA-cam shorts + normal videos) the better for the future of the race💪 keep it up!
It’s fantastic to see the Ocean Race back. This daily show looks like it’s going to be a great way to follow the race. I must say though, as someone who is not a sailor, and who fell in love with the Ocean Race simply over UA-cam, it’s kind of disappointing to see this race down to 5 boats, short handed, driven by auto pilot. It’s also sad that the VO65s are only doing an abridged version of the race, and not the full thing. I appreciate that we have all gone through trying times, there’s been a lot of changes to this race, and hopefully this is just a transitionary phase to a brighter future. Hoping to see foiling monohulls with larger crews, with more ability to fine tune the boat on the fly. We want to see these boats match racing through the Southern Ocean, not picking a generic setting and settling for the best compromise. All that said, I’m looking forward to 6 months of adventure on the high seas :)
Nice video. I liked hearing about the number of lines that have to be handled to tack one of these bad boys. I would have liked to seen a graphic that showed where each of the boats were in relation to each other.
@@BlueMoon-rz9qf Thank you! This app has a wealth of information on the race! It gave me exactly what I wanted to know, I still think they should mention where the boats are and who is ahead in the updates. Not everyone is going to want to go to another source to get this kind of info on the race.
Great show. If I may wish/suggest, please add more map/overhead coverage, it would make it much easier to figure out where they are in relation to each other (and the world...)
Couldn’t agree more! There are no ropes on a sailboat. It’s rope when it’s on the spool. Once it’s cut and put to use, it is a sheet, halyard, or other control line. Surprising for a broadcast of this caliber.
Here we go! After a messy TV of the start ( was down to having to patch in commentary to visuals supplied from random event coverage) this programme has all the usual analysis and story.
Yes, please give us more "flying boats"🙂. We need more content. Dont take the foot off the gas. I would even sugest a uncut yt channel, like gopro has, just to dump those beautiful daily images of the obr's.
Niall, please tone down the hype, I know it’s an established form of presentation. But most sailors I know are not, not, into fast shouting. More of us will watch for longer if you report, not hype. Please.
Hang on a second. “Yesterday was the start of the Ocean Race 2022 23”. What? Yesterday was January 15th, 2023. How can this race be a 2022 race if it started yesterday - in 2023?!? Don’t gaslight your own audience!
this is no longer the ocean race. No longer extreme. No longer the greatest team sport. racing from a cockpit with autopilot, soooo exciting - not. Seriously, you can film the IMOCA's on a set on a sound stage - never ever having to get close to water. sooooooo boring. soooo boring. soooo boring. I hope the trophy gets lost or stolen. this race is not worthy of the trophy. I guess, I'm still really, really, really upset.

Thanks, Niall, been waiting since the 2017/18 event, think we can confirm that you reporting is addictive! Looking forward to the rest of the journey
Excellent coverage folks!!!! I am onboard for the ride. These boats are amazing.
Niall, it's like the race was never gone! Great programme once more. I hope we'll be seeing some more strategy and weather forecasts tomorrow :)
LOVED THE LAST RACE!!!! Exhilarating to watch. Woke up every day and turned it on right away. Ready for more!
I missed this show. Its cool to hear something, that is not in french. Thanks!

Hi Niall, I really enjoy your reporting, thanks for all your hard work on producing these! Cheers from Arizona in the USA...
Incredible, reminds me, why sailing is such an amazing sport
That rear camera view as the boat screams along never tires
Great coverage.
Nice job Niall and team.
Great show. Could watch it 24/7. Great jobb!🤙
Great coverage ! Thank you and keep going on

Wow, epic pictures. Great analysis overall
Niall thanks for explaining. Go on like this and we are waiting for the sailors in The Hague
This is amazing , I would love to do this one day
"ropes" - hilarious.
thank you Ocean Race
Awesome coverage! Great sailboat racing!
Better than the live coverage - but is this what we are to expect - 10 minutes per day? Surely sponsors want coverage?

The Ocean Race app has a tracker function which displays a map with position and distances. Might be worth a try.

Nice ⛵ 🌊
Great info and explained so well by our man in the Know. Thank you - IMOCAs are all new to me. Makes the VO65s look like cruisers. Lol.
So when did they start using “ropes” errr for sail trim??

First one nice show as always😄😁
Great Show! Looking forward to a daily "fix"
Will there be live Interviews of the Skippers from the boats?
Thanks for the great coverage! 🤩When to expect a new episode of The Ocean Race Show? ⛵️
Happy to see the Lithuanians in the competition even though the commentator keeps saying they are Polish! Two different countries my friend.
Every time he calls a line a rope a dolphin sheds a tear...
9:37 These boats when flying look like flying fish.
Ropes !!! 😂
Ropes? Lines.
Fabulous video's! How could Team Mexico rip their mainsail already? Nasty luck
Will there be a offwatch podcast?
What is the music used at the end?
I somehow really miss the „Ocean Race RAW“ format like in the 2018 edition. Every episode was just like a cinema movie
Advertised as a daily show, but so far only one show on day 1. Nothing since. What is the schedule?
Ropes?

So why can't they make the show longer and fit more footage of the boats... ????!!!
Can I download a tracker somewhere.
The tracker is on the Oceanrace Website.
they also have a phone app
👏👍
Ropes?…..you said ropes!
There’s no ‘ropes’!
Glad that someone knows there is no ropes on a sailboat, they are called lines. Ropes are for securing the boat to a dock.
@Ron Leech
No. Dock lines are used.
@Ron Leech
Rope is the ‘raw’ material before it’s designated for a particular use.
I miss the daily show today ?
Check back in tomorrow! The Ocean Race Show isn’t every day, we’ll be running it 2-3 times a week.
@@TheOceanRace B-but what are we going to watch the other days?? Golf??

They kept the original name despite the delays. It’s like how the Tokyo Olympics took place in 2021 but were still called “Tokyo 2020”.
An equally bad idea.
"Lines" not ropes ! Lines !, and its "down below" not "downstairs" geeezus !
what's happening, I can't see out the window. Holly fu*ken sh*t Batman. I'll never ever never buy a Volvo.
