- Marty bought a 'sort-by-cheapest-buy-it-now' 1999 Subaru 2 Door WRX STI. It's been properly serviced and drives great but the paint is pretty beat up after being a daily driver for 20 years straight. In this episode we get rid of the alarm that got us stuck on the racetrack and take it to be painted with help of a friend.

Having worked for a Factory Subaru Dealership in the early 2000's i 2nd the put it in water method, and the amount of warranty issues on those alarms on wrx's and Sti's was off the show..

I used to think the same thing until I needed factory paint work and the color code was ridiculously expensive. I'd rather not pay for a new car just to have my old one painted, thanks.

@@stanceproductions9943 Because that's how it is from the subaru factory. Factory paint jobs are far from perfect but some people would rather it look like it how it originally came out new from the factory.

This vid had particularly rad cinematography / music / editing that went along perfectly with the environment of that shop and the overall vibe. It was very pleasing to watch. The MCM production quality just keeps getting better, it seems significantly better to me over the past 6 months - year. Not sure if you guys changed anything or it's the same and you are just continually mastering the production side of things. Whatever is happening I like it. I would argue this channel has some of the best production, highest quality overall footage, and professional editing. Sometimes the content might be a little more informational / educational / tutorial based than what will hold my attention, but they always are pleasing to watch and certain videos like this one hit the middle ground of not needing much narration / dialogue because the time lapses and beauty shots are so fucking good

I would love to hear some more tricks and tips from that guy about painting cars. I’ve never heard about intended orange peel through reducer before.
thats a lot of trial and error to figure out just how much reducer to use vs the temp of the actual base coat when mixing. id love to see some of his more exotic work, ill bet it is seriously fantastic

I was a prof. interior painter in another life. I'm painting my car now. Never seen someone kick tape lick that but I'm forsure going to from now on!!
I'm currently an interior decorator and really would love to move into automotive paint at some point but it's a whole different world lol

I love watching competent people show how to do a job with love. I work as a design engineer in an office at a computer. The number of times UA-cam has shown me the exact process that the guys on the tools go through to execute my designs. I love to learn and the next time I make my design better for the guys on the floor and cheaper for my clients.
Man I wish I could afford to do this to my car! A great paint job like this makes such a huge difference.
Love the fact you didn't go for a perfect finish and just replicated the factory paint.

It's a tuned up WRX, it can be called either (like how a Trans-AM Camaro is Camaro)
That's not entirely true. A trans am was just Pontiacs camaro, which is like the brz frs ae86.
The wrx and sti are two completely different cars with completely different options and performance.
It would be a better comparison to a 911 and a 911 turbo.

I know a guy with a pristine one of these in his shed, low miles as it was only ever a sunday driver. He said he'd sell it to me but I'm far too poor for such a car, sad days. It's nice to watch this and remember the old days though.
