Look at the tie and his 8 string guitar, such a djentleman...
Real original
I know this is old but its as timeless as gold. No need to tempt it.
This dude is one the most humbling musicians i have ever met. i love this dude! I also also love the jazz guitar he has in his songs!
I don't know what I'm more impressed with, his killer chops and creativity, or his vocabulary!
His Guitar is Sweating from being played so well
"it's a pretty cool idea, it's a 3 octave sweep."
this man is gonna make me cry of how beautifully structured his compositions are. I've seen AAL once and I must see them again and again and again..........and again and again and again.........
I can never conceive a sweep across all 7-strings... until I see this video. Thank you Tosin!
C Lydian sweep! Such a nice sounding key
Looking back at this I'm very appreciative of these Guitar Messenger videos, I remember first trying learning this two years ago. I can honestly say this video has helped so much since then and has made a major impact on my own playing.
What about now?
When he first showed his sweep: Okay, that's somewhat simple I think I can do that.
When he gained little speed on the sweep: whoa that's a bit fast dude
When he played it at full speed: ...........fuck this, I'm done.
Always been a fan of Guitar Messenger. Keep up the great work!!
Me: Hey Tosin, I'm goods at the sweeps arpeggios.
Tosin: NO... YOU ARE NOT. Go homes and takes a shower.. to wash the shames off you.
coolest sweep ive ever heard
Put this on half time playback speed and skip around to random points. The way tosins voice articulates is how my incomprehension of the material feels
20 years ago... nobody was expecting a short hair person in white elegant shirt to be half that good !
Everyone stop bitching his tone sounds great for an an interview like this. Insanely good guitarist.
I love how he plays the octave slow. It's got this awesome sci-fi sound to it.
But can he play Smoke on the Water?
Thats the test.
Probably not
I love his theory. He thinks in such interesting ways I would never think whilst writing music.
me too and I'm proud
You're a God.
@cowcrusher i was just thinking the same thing. i believe the #4 he puts in there is borrowed from lydian, which paul gilbert is very fond of for it's 'spacy' sound.
i can name like a million bands that are mixing into all of this, but he doesn't wear the influences on his sleeve....tremendously cool stuff!
best guitarist ever
Very special musician, the Wes Montgomery of his generation.
Is it me, or is how cool your name sounds directly proportional to how good you are at guitar?
I want to learn that sweep just to play it in slo-mo. Wow, imagine how much more spacey would Tempting Time be if he had a portion where he played that sweep that slow.
so how do you play teen spirit?
Yes it does sound good to us all. His music is very inspiring, an while some songs are very stressfull, most of the songs are very catchy despite the odd time signatures ;)
this is obscene. tosin is a new era god
i love his bends with the pinkie! haha
@Iliketacos091
Also, that's a C on the B string one time. The second time he ends the riff, he ends on B.
really everyone is equal there is no best guitarist
Turn on audio transcription (beta) and go to 2:17
hey my comment made highest rated!
That has to be my favourite AAL lead lick. It just SCREAMS aliens to me for some reason!
That tone is so Boss.
And god also. :D
haha if you look at the subtitles for this, the video thinks he's saying 2:16
"the fear is actually sinatra cool in the first two authors which is also nice"
3:36 "which is kinda like a another call waited to use their paper pedo"
I love how this is filmed in what looks like his dining room :D
@chezyboi he's talking about the solo. He is only using 7-strings for it. Pretty sure he doesn't use his 8th string at all in this song.
Hey tosin, we got like this closed bar we are gonna film you in real quick.
Nice
he loves ending on that F (13th fret) on the E string.
@DuringCreation
I think you mean tomorrow cuz i'm going to see them to with btbam
Today is the 15thand they play on the 16th @ the Melkweg
Yeah, that one.
Watching Tosin play makes me truly realize how much I am NOT good at playing guitar...
@nielper Great minds think alike.
@MrRafataff incorrect. lol jk everyone has their own opinion... imo his playing sounds badass... idk if ur reffering to his tone or his playing style, his tone is iffy, but, yeah
At 3:13 I just started laughing - obviously my mind is now fucked up!
His tone is so spacey, Its really something that makes me think of something futuristic, really love it, i think that a major part of the magic of AAL is The tone.
But im not denying That the playing is Out of this worldy but still.
Sry Fur Duh Laung Paust. xD
ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE BEST TONES OUT THERE!
@nielper they are using very similar scales. The way Tosin plays it makes it unique ;). Good ear tho
@nielper It does sound very similar, but that's most-likely just because their using similar scales.
obviously
@chezyboi He only uses the 7 for Tempting Time.
That part at 2:23 sounds like the "Japanese Scale" (that's the name it's mostly known by in our western society).
Hirajoshi scale?
holy fuckin Peter piping shit skadoodles. That's the most absurd thing at 3:13 that I've ever seen on a guitar, hands down, no fucking questions asked. Had to double post that it was so diabolically beast
mode son.
Yeah GUITAR MESSENGER! (Y)
3:07 "you can kinda of work this our slowly then, ummm, you can get to the point where-" No Tosin, we won't be going to that point ever.
@TheRitzyRedneck lol I get where you're coming from, but I had this name since conception and will not go through the hassle of starting all over again.
He have created his own world of music and now he is a GOD there)))) Like a Neo from Matrix)
"I started tapping and this is what came out..."
whoa...wait ok go to 2:25, do you think Tosin got that lick from Jason Becker? Here's Jason playing it at a clinic, 1 and 1/2 steps lower watch?v=WnySdc7dnEA
@SkelpYourHead Great sentence. :D
How does he get the Tempting Time lead sounds??? PLEASE TELL ME!
fucking epic guitar!
@nielper Very similar lol, good ear
3:13 What in the holy cyborg superman fuck was that ?!?!
@TermofDeath Mishsin Abasoor
arpeggio says what? maj13? then I do not understand what he is doing it in Fis?
Where's part 1?
Agreed; that is the mark of a really great songwriter! In my opinion at least
You sir, have made me shit my pants
@SPYDDET watch out, we got a baddass over here!
"and obviously you can work this out slowly and (plays)" WTF!?!?!?! I JUST SHAT MYSELF!!!!!
Veil of Maya; Marc Okubo.
Is there something you don't like about his playing ? Being a fan , I can be really objective, so your opinion would be appreciated o/
@SkelpYourHead They already have the greatest guitarist player ever. It's Buckethead be plays every genre. no kidding look on wiki.
Can I just... no? I can't? Ever?
1:37
What planet is he from?
cosmic
3:00: Yeah, this seems doable with some practice.
3:12: Ahaha...never mind.
quarter note
"so obviously you could work this out slowly and then um get to a point where you still aren't this fast" 3:07
Marc is more skilled with fast riffs but overall Tosin. Great musicians
Probably Marc okubo from veil of maya
3:48 wait a second...seven? am I blind or is it 8-string guitar?
@nielper im pretty sure its just genious' using scales
duh duh da do do do duh do do do duh do do do duh duh duh da
if you look at his left hand it looks like a spyder creeking up a wall
@hecknot14 keep clicking it. it looks funny as hell
Oh my god he can actually count... a guitarist that can COUNT!?!? WHAT THE FUUUUU.... I want to play music with you.. xD
"So it's definitely a cool use for all seven strings"
"Tosin, that's eight strings."
"What? Really? I've been playing eight strings the whole time?!"
Dude! I see eight strings! Is that eight strings? It is!
0:05 when he plucks that chord he looks like a child who just discovered this magic stick makes sounds lol. For reals though i think maybe he kind of approaches the instrument in this childlike fresh way, and originality just pours from within him.
he has the groove hair cut from gta sa
@MrRafataff You have issues
" 1:37 - 1:40"= Djent"-North
