It might be nice to mention that the vocalist on this song is deerfrance, an amazing artist in her own right, who was a member of Mr. Cale's band at that time.
Love this song 💕 reminds me of my late husband and I, who died far far to young 25 who was a very talented musician.. Also for my brother who died last week 64 R. I. P. PAUL AND GRAY ❤️ 😘 X CHERISHED MEMORIES SOME GOOD SOME BAD..
Such a gorgeous song: Deerfrance's vocals are gorgeous, and the music is gorgeous too. It makes such a nice calm come-down, after the furies of "Captain Hook" (on the *Sabotage* album). Somehow this song reminds me of Beach House - of "Lovelier Girl" (ua-cam.com/video/p1VS3wm_YEY/v-deo.html) - though of course, I know that "Only Time Will Tell" predates "Lovelier Girl" by almost thirty years. The soothing electric piano in "Only Time Will Tell" makes me think of Gary Shearston's "Witnessing" (ua-cam.com/video/y-8LlDNSf6M/v-deo.html), too, even though "Witessing" predated *Sabotage* by five years. The way that Deerfrance sings "The gentle pain/Of falling rain" even reminds me of Brixie Smith singing "Veins on leaves/A cat and a king,/A mouthful of seed,/A strand of beads..." in the Fall's "Bonkers in Phoenix" (ua-cam.com/video/BaX9PO8psag/v-deo.html). I think that Deerfrance and Brixie sound very similar to each other. Not everybody loved Deerfrance - reviewing John Cale in concert circa 1980, Greil Marcus once dismissed her as a "...wispy female backing singer" doing "...a gruesome Jane Birkin imitation" (see here:books.google.ca/books?id=1UqP73-KGDYC&pg=PA93&dq=Greil+marcus+"war+in+the+catamaran"&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiz-IOgsIXkAhX6IDQIHUpsAGMQuwUILTAA#v=onepage&q&f=false) - but *I'll* always love her. "Only Time Will Tell" is a beautiful song that makes me think of a lot of other beautiful songs.

Stephanie says....
who was the artist that painted the young girl lifting the edge of the ocean?
I do not know, sorry.
It's from a movie poster. Don't know the artist though.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0280507/
Dali.
The poster on imdb isn't the Dali painting, my bad. But Dali's was earlier, I'm pretty sure.
@@HenkStolker Not sure how I missed your answer for 6 years but thank you.
