    As a retired cop w/30 yrs experience, including more than one OIS, the info in this video is pure gold. I did all these things, retiring in ‘97, and had no problems w/citizen complaints. One lady even sent the police chief a letter saying she was going to pray for my safety.

    As a civilian I just had to comment on your remark "what people see in their side mirror as an officer approaches is the uniform, not the person". That is so true, I'd never thought of it like that before. Also, I think we, the public, forget that cops are human beings too & are doing their job. It never made sense to me for drivers to set the tone of the stop by being intentionally antagonistic at the start of it, before the officer even says anything.

    Good Video, Good Advice. Only thing different is I don't get out of the car right away, I put it in reverse for a second or two to assess the situation. If I don't like it I will reverse out in a heartbeat.

      A good video to add for young officers would be how to set up their car. For instance they should be able to get ticket book by feel and not have to look for it. Also what they need in the car. Younger officers joke if you need it Richard has it.

    Had a very short hiring process from a department with high turnover with a brand new interim chief. Passed my physical agility test. Going to the 11 week academy regional in Georgia and I am very excited as well as concerned I will not be trained enough. My fto will be 40 days extended if need be. Any last minute tips you can tell me?

    • @The10CodeMindset
      @The10CodeMindset  2 роки тому

      First off, congrats. Second, know arrest, search, and seizure inside and out because you don't want to violate someone's rights or end up in trouble because you exceed scope of your authority. Fortunately it's not rocket science. Third, enroll in a BJJ, MMA, or Krav Maga School. You absolutely must invest in your own training for defensive tactics, so that you can be confident and capable during use of force situations. Fourth, know that respect and empathy go such a long way even in tense situations. Don't mistake those two for weakness.
      Lastly, stay physically fit and never stop learning! You've got this! I also have a book out called "101 Useful Tips for Rookie Police Officers" on Amazon if you want to learn more.

    traffic stops can go up to 0 to 100 i just wish that some people have respect for the police like they need to know to not to yell at a police officer we learned that like in 1 first grade and when some now is talk and they intrut also we learn that like 2 grade wait police officer all around to cuss

    • @The10CodeMindset
      @The10CodeMindset  3 роки тому

      Yeah, yelling doesn't really help. Officers included in that when it comes to arguing.

  • @espera246A
    @espera246A Рік тому

    Best pproach and smile and calmness can be best weapon to use on traffic stops ? But most police officers start by yelling on their cliets and set them in flightening mode hence resulting into car wild chess or even death of suspect drivers or police officers ?

    • @The10CodeMindset
      @The10CodeMindset  Рік тому

    How does it work when it comes to paperwork? For the most part can you finish it after each call? If not do you have to stay over past your shift to complete it?

    • @The10CodeMindset
      @The10CodeMindset  Рік тому

      I rarely stayed over regular shift time. Just speaking from my experience there were those times when calls would not stop rolling in and there was no time to do the reports, but that’s when patrol squad mates can help each other by covering calls while the other gets caught up on the paperwork.

    Seeing this after watch the darian Jarrot shooting :(. What was his main mistake in that traffic stop??

    • @The10CodeMindset
      @The10CodeMindset  2 роки тому +1

      A horrific and devastating tragedy. Please understand I do not mind you asking a question, but I'm not one who wants to come across as criticizing the fallen. Most officers (including myself) have been in an at least one situation where we think, "Wow, I could have been killed, I got fortunate." Or something to that effect. Yet sadly, too many times, a fellow officer is killed and even though it's a risk of the job, it's a very sad loss. Jarrot was at a disadvantage in which it was difficult to maintain constant sight of the man's hands, needless to say especially when the murderer got out of the truck. That's my first impression. It's very hard to watch that video. May Jarrot be staring fully upon the face of God, rest in peace. Have you seen Donut Operator's video about it? ua-cam.com/video/0M67iZcdh8E/v-deo.html

    I consider myself a decent person. Served my country for 20 years, retired in 2012. However, like all human beings. I do have my flaws. One being a sensitive ego. I'm a work in progress though.😉 Childhood abuse/trauma etc.🤕 That said, . I could not work in LE. Nasty people would make my agent orange act up/make me cry. 😢 😉 You really do need to have a thick skin to work in LE and as you stated, not take what people say personally. A hard thing for people to do. I realize it's what you represent that some people have a problem with, not you as person. Of course, there are exceptions. Some people do judge others based on what they do for a living. They equate a career interest with a personality trait. Some people's mindset may be that people who are in LE are attracted to it for the sense of power/authority it gives them over other people. They were bullied as children etc....I would say a very small percentage of people may do it for this and they are usually either drummed out of the Police Academy, fail field evaluation phase, or resign if they don't get fired first. Just my perspective of course. We can agree to disagree. Stay frosty out there LEOS! Complacency kills!

    Why do officers work by themselves?
    I believe that officers should work in a group of at least two.

    • @The10CodeMindset
      @The10CodeMindset  Рік тому

      With nationwide staffing shortages, riding in pairs is impossible for the most part.

      @@The10CodeMindset
      I don't think that working in the groups of two or more is impossible.
      There are officers who nitpick and look for trouble where there is none.
      Some officers don't have enough to do so they waste time looking for things that are irrelevant to violate people's rights of people who are not committing any crimes.
      It will be easier for offices to work in groups of two or more if they prioritize 911 calls and only go to those calls that are urgent and and an emergency.
      They shouldn't go to calls that have that have to do with people videoing people on the public sidewalk or shoplifting calls.

    • @The10CodeMindset
