A wise Sergeant once told me that it is your family that is important not the job. Never sacrifice the family for the job. The job ends one day but the family is forever.
Man, l can’t begin to explain how priceless this information and advice is: I’m heavily considering being a police officer and everything you’re sharing with us helps to evolve us all. GOD BLESS YOU🇺🇸
Some of the best times of my 30 yr career was as an FTO, made a lot of good friends through our training together. When I retired in 1997 I was the patrol division commander (captain) and took a keen interest in who our FTOs were. Anyone who told a newbie to forget everything they learned in the academy was removed from the FTO program after being warned.
Rookie, If you see a fellow officer doing something unlawful or violent, Stop them, It is your duty, Or you can help them and be sued for it... And lose your badge and ruin your life.
Thank you for the recommendations. Altough I'm a border guard in Europe and some things are different (most of them concerning gun regulations) most of what you said is so very relatable. Two thumbs up sir
Thank you 🙏 This is wild to stumble across as I’m considering to go into this world while I own a restaurant for 13 years. I love the advice for anything you have dedicated yourself to. You get lost in the world of duty no matter what your job is. Dedication needs balance
Don't let them brainwash you when you show up to a bank heist you're not there to save the people you're there to save your Masters money from getting stolen. When you return fire you're shooting at the people inside every time you miss your in exact intended target. READ the Constitution!!
I agree with you on staying physically fit before work such as weight training, push-ups sit-ups and barbell rolls like I do, and I don't alcohol drink or smoke, love staying in shape I'll last for 30 years as a sheriff officer 😊
@@The10CodeMindset yes Chicago Police department! Your videos have been really helpful when it comes to what I’m to expect when I get hired on. Keep doing what you doing bro because I know what I’m getting into is going to require a lot of mental strength and support from a community that has gone through similar things that I’m going to be experiencing by the day. So thanks a lot brother!
@@kaybrook1514 I applaud the heck out of you. Big calling you're answering! I will do my best to continue to provide helpful info for you. Take care of yourself!
So glad to hear you are serving the CPD!! Hope your academy process is going well so far! I’m hoping to serve in the north suburbs sometime in the near future…planning on doing academy after I graduate college!
The part about gaining weight is something that I’ve seen a lot from cop friends that I have. However, I’ll never forget the time I had an incident in Beverly Hills, California, and three cops showed up and all three looked like they were CrossFit instructors.
I hear “don’t try to change anything” a lot from police officers and non police officers my thing is if it’s my traffic stop or my call I’m policing my way unless a supervisor comes and takes control or someone else has a better way of doing it then me or if I’m out of line or out of control but I’m not gonna let someone get me too that place ever.
They might mean don’t try to change anything about the department when you’re new? But so far as doing what works for you and learning your own style as it varies from others…have at it 👍 and change it up as need be. Always learning in this job 💪
HAHA! Amazing how some things are the same across the nation. Having said that though, police from an individual level all the way up to an organizational level must always seek to evolve and grow. I wish you the best out there!!
I’ve been a cop for a year and I workout 7 days a week. There are no days off. I’ve been doing this for my last 20 years in the Army as well. Physical conditioning is not optional.
Say it louder! 👏💪 Even if someone can’t make it 7 days a week, physical conditioning is not optional. Thanks for commenting! Stay vigilant and do great!
We met online. Wait, that sounded wrong. HAHA! Long story short, we connected via LinkedIn but we already knew some of the same people through the small world of law enforcement. When I travelled to Texas we met up and we have worked together on helping fellow officers since, mainly through Heroes and Families United Non-Profit.
It wasn’t working out for my family anymore and I knew I wanted to travel the country and speak to first responders and military. So I couldn’t do that if I was still working full time law enforcement, but family was the main reason. I miss it a lot, but family first.
The 1st 3 advices are popular in every job. But I'll go for the 3rd one. I won't try to change anything. Just jump on that spinning wheel, do your job and go home
Take the time to actually learn the laws you're enforcing. Basic ID and trespass laws are two of the law's you get wrong, and it ends up costing the taxpayer's unnecessarily. Stop running people through the system because you can. Stop earning the hate.
Question for any cops out there, how do you guys know the direction of suspects during pursuits if they’re going south bound north bound ect while making so many turns? Also how did you learn your beat in a big city? Any recommendations to learn my beat as fast as possible?
