Marilyn

Is this what you want?
Come to bed eyes
Curtain call smile
Fame feels just love
If all you’ve known
Is being alone
She lights up the screen
Hollywood’s girl
Red lips and pearls
I’m still Norma Jean
Never enough
Lonely for love
They love Marilyn
Till the morning they wake up with me
So troubled I’m not her
I’ve watched every single one leave
Do you love me?
Say you do
I’ll be your dream
Let me lean on you
I’ll play all her scenes
If you’ll stay with me
Do you love me?
Say you do
When I was a girl
I dreamed of fame
lights round my name
Loved by all the world
I sold my soul
To be Miss Monroe
They love Marilyn
Till the morning they wake up with me
So troubled I’m not her
I’ve watched every single one leave
Do you love me?
Say you do
I’ll be your dream
Let me lean on you
I’ll play all her scenes
If you’ll stay with me
Do you love me?
Say you do
Flashbulbs drown me
No one sees me
Captured in their movie
Camera’s rolling
Tears I’m holding
When will I feel worthy?
Do you love me?
Say you do
I’ll be your dream
Let me lean on you
I’ll play all her scenes
If you’ll stay with me
Do you love me?
Say you do
They’re all watching
But they don’t see me
I’m captured in their movie
All they see is Marilyn
And they all love Marilyn
But when they yell cut
It's just Norma Jean
And so I watch them all leave
And that’s the price I pay
To be a big, big star
To be something from a dream
To be Marilyn
Oh my gosh this is beautiful. One of your best works. The lyrics, the melodies, the vocal performance, just sublime.
👍 Agree
She was such a tortured soul. And the Kennedy boys just passed her around like trash. That was a beautiful song and I think you captured the essence of Norma Jean.
I really despise the Kennedy guys for how they treated her. I think a lot of the men in her life were bastards to her, unfortunately. She deserved so much more than she got.
This is such a beautiful song. I love how this song captures Marilyn's insecurities despite the image of confidence history falsely portrays her as.
Wow your voice in this is so emotional. Even though you're singing softer it feels like it's conveying the emotion harder, beautiful 🤎
Hey, thanks so much, Sharm. I'm so touched. :)
The candle in the wind, never allowed to come off stage. Gorgeous song. She probably appreciates the tribute, where ever she is. After all, I'm certain you know we are eternal.
Another amazing surprise. Not only that smooth voice but the lyrics, the tune, all of it. So fantastic.
Thanks so much, Chris. I'm thrilled you like it
This song is incredible. Marilyn's thoughts late in her short life as sung so beautifully in Karliene's voice. I especially love the eerie last part that sounds exactly as if Marilyn had been listening then takes the mike from Karliene and speaks in her own voice while Karliene sings harmony. Karliene, your talent and your voice seems to recognize no boundaries.❤
Thanks so much, Paul. :)
This song is so perfect for Marilyn, it made me cry
I love how you make songs about women in history who've been interpreted through lenses that don't give them justice. For example, Cleopatra, whose been talked about for her beauty instead of her capabilities. And Marilyn Monroe, whose been interpreted though her beauty, her love affairs, and her death. In this song, you've talked about her feelings, and the actual woman she was.
Do I know why this is premiering at 2:30 in the morning? No.
Am I going to assume it's either insanity or a time difference? Yes.
Am I going to stay up until 2:30 in the morning to listen to it as soon as it comes out? Obviously 😎
Yep, it was the time difference, my friend. I'm in Australia. Where are you?
I'm Happy that I found your channel♥️I feel at peace witt your Art
I love every song you create especially, the voices of women at that time have just been swept up with men's narratives.❤🔥
Oh, thank you. I'm just such a history nerd at heart and love reading up about famous women through time. Their stories always lend themselves so well to my music.
Karliene: I've followed your work for years now. This has got to be your Churchillian Finest Hour! Peace and continued blessings!
J
Another amazing song by an incredibly talented singer! This is song going straight onto my Vibes list!
This is a truly bewitching song, it sounds just as if Marilyn's own words were sung through your divine voice. What an incredible tribute.
Miss you Karliene! Love your music so much 😘
This wasn't what I expected. Way deeper.
Haunting song of the masks we wear while wanting to have someone see us for who we are, even when we least want to be seen but need it most.
Exactly. Even though it's about Marilyn, I think we can all relate to this song in parts.
Wow this was majestic performance honestly it's a really core for a SOUL, Marilyn Monroe suffered from severe depression and some kind of mental isolation song like this could make a good therapy for her
Dreamy song, yet so sad. Beautiful.
Oh I'm so excited for this one!
Here we gooooo
Beautiful!! Each time I hear any of your songs, I am mesmerized by your voice and stunned by the emotion you perfectly capture and convey. Masterful!!!
This is really beautiful, amazing job Karliene!!
Intuitive, as always.
Many thanks!
This song touched my heart deeply, Karliene you're gifted I love all of ur songs🌹
Love, love this !
This is brilliant ❤ such a brilliant tribute to Marilyn
WOW, great work Karliene! Thank you so much!
Incredible how u catched her tragic figure in your masterpiece 😔💜 thanks for your that and RIP Norma Jeane Baker 💫☄️
This song was amazing! It showed yhe true suffering and loneliness of Norma Jean behind the glamour of Marylin. It really did feel like her singing- gave me shivers! Love your music💕
Just watched a short documentary about her, then come back to this wonderful piece. So heartbreaking
wunderschön!!! danke!!!! viele grüße aus oberfranken, deutschland!!
This has been my break-up song. Must have listened to this over 60 times. ( more, to be honest). The vulnerability, the neediness...and the story, knowing how it ended for Marilyn. This song helped me to get through and over. Thank you Karliene.
Captivating ...as always ♠️🔥💎🖤
Really pretty song, well done karliene. 👏
This song is so beautiful! Brilliant job!
So lovely!
If you want to see images of Marilyn while listening to this song her images can be found in 'Wiki', it is quite a tribute & a nice way of remembering the American actress while listening to this beautiful song by karliene. (we all have people who love us; I believe that there are people who love us that we haven't met yet. So there is always a feeling of hope even in our hours when we think we will not see the sun shine again - it always will, and so it will for you too) 💖
Ok but frankly incredible song aside can we take a moment to appreciate the background and way the lyrics were presented? Eyes covered up because no ones really seeing her/Norma Jean is anonymous compared to the red lips and pearls of Marilyn and even if the picture seems "perfect" at first if you pay even a bit more attention you'll notice how torn and scratched up it really is! Like I said the song is amazing vocals, message, and all but I also absolutely love the little details artists add in that aren't necessarily music related!
You are wonderful Karliene.
Beautiful
So, I recently subscribed to you because I actually was looking for similar artists to a few of my favorite other singers, and you were recommended on the list at the page Last.Fm. I've never heard of you before then, so it was great to find you. As a blind bagpiper of all things, I really have to honestly say HOLY MAZZILLO!!!!!! Your singing voice is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Dare I even describe it as "hot". As a blind person the thing I like about you the most is your seriously hot vibrato! You see as a blind person, looks are obviously out of the question, and I've honestly never heard a speaking voice and called it "hot", so that's where my designation of "hot" comes in for someone's vocal vibrato. Most people have UGLY and slow vibratos which will eventually kill the voice (Frau Brianna Damrau for one). And I especially LOVE that effect which I call the "Kelly Clarkson" effect, since she did this all the time (i.e., main voice on one octave, other background voices in a different octave). Makes it sound cooler. Oh, and Mazzillo by the way is the name of my favorite deceased Italian bagpipes maker. He's very hard to find but a 1970s recording of him and his stepson (who's already quite old even now) playing a set can be heard on my overly tiny channel LOL. I'm honestly going to react to one of these songs of yours to show people how much I absolutely dig your amazing voice! You might also gain a few other subscribers because I've also introduced some other friends of mine to you as wel!!!!!!!!!!
Stupid little question.
When will this be available on Spotify? :)
Should be up very soon. Keep an eye out for it.
This was hauntingly beautiful and so very sad. Now I want a rendition of Edith Piaf's 'Je ne regrette rien' in Karliene's style.
This was amazing!
How beautiful dear one ..speechless..💖🌟🙏
I like this. Thank you
I absolutely LOVE this. My friend thinks it's gorgeous too. This honestly feels like you could do a whole album dedicated to her like you did for Elizabeth and Anne Bonnie.
awesome song Karliene bloody loved it your a kickass song writer and singer looking forward to your next vid😀😀😀😀😀😎😎🤟👏👏
Ah, thank you Jamie :)
I love how this song is written to the tune of the hallelujah song from shrek
I love the song 🎵 you never disappointed
Oh wow, this is absolutely gorgeous. I can't help but cry over the pain she must have felt before she died.
That was sweet, and sad. Good job
Crom an Morrigan you sound like Marilyn, Karliene, when I heard you start singing, instead of the pleasant frission I typically have upon first hearing your voice, I damned near leapt from my skin. But for all that folderol, I truly love you and this song.
@Karliene2221 I cannot get telegram on the computer I am using, I am truly sorry.
You are heaven sent lady 💜
Wonderful
Would love to hear you do a cover of the Valeryian Lullaby that Daemon sang in the last episode 🙌🏻
Merci ❤️✨️💚💙💜
beautiful
Truly amazing!
Good song :D
Lindooo 😍❤😘🌷🌻🤩❤
This is a be should be good.
👏💜
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Norma Jean Baker . Said once " most of the time I feel sad and lonely ." She was used . Some times she was a willing victim . But victim she was .
Coming from a very dysfunctional family ( They say she was abused and both phycically and sexually as a child .) And having very very severe dyslexia . She was trying to be a serious actress . But there was very little support for people with learning difficulties . Even so she was intellegent and knew very many things . She mourned the children she lost . And she died on an overdose of sleeping pills and slimming pills .
Like Sir Elton John sings . She was a candle in the wind . A fragile light . With no support .
Do I love her ? I would love to have been a friend to her. My mother was severely dyslexic. I used to read for her. And I taught young people with learning difficulties to read. They loved The Harry Potter stories. Perhaps I could have made Norma Jean a pupil of Hogwarts. But that's not to be. Things haven't changed much for women that a only seen for their looks and there are some things around for people with learning difficulties , but still not enough .
You gave her a good Scots accent there Karleine but there is nothing wrong with that .
Молодец!!! Очень круто 😍💖
Beautiful and brutal 🎉 i just found you thank you my dear
👏👏❤❤❤🤩
😍😍😍
Can you please write a song about Catherine the great? I love your work and would love to hear how you’d translate her into song
I'd like to imagine in my head what if she had a friend she grew up with before she got put in foster care they got seperated, but somehow the person got a job being her security or an assistant but Norma Jeane or the person couldn't remember because their minds blocked it out to protect them, however, this person doesn't much care for hollywood because their so stoic and think Hollywood is all fake; And they know the only thing that was real was their relationship with Norma Jeane, but because Norma Jeane changed her name and her natural hair colour from brown to Blonde, they dont recognise her; But it doesn't matter they do their job, and actually care for her and make sure shes properly looked after, protected even from herself with the Kennedy boys and so many others who used her.
All she wanted was love, but she was abandoned over and over and over again.
You should really do Hāros Bartossi, the song that a certain somebody sings in the finally of House of the Dragon.
Just imagine if Marylin could hear this song.
This is a beautiful song for not only Marylin but every woman who the male-dominated entertainment industry objectifies into just a sex symbol when, as an actress and human being, she is so, so much more. Bravo. An absolutely haunting tribute.
Thank you. I’m so touched that you find it beautiful. I just wanted to do Marilyn proud because she seemed like such a fragile, gentle soul under all that sexed up facade. I feel like all she wanted was for someone to scoop her up and truly love her for her, and I find that so heartbreaking.
@@Karliene I'll admit, I don't know a lot about Marylin's personal life, more her as the pop culture icon she, or the studios, presented herself as. But even then, I could sense that the pop culture image was just that, an image. There was a woman behind the sexy symbol. And you captured that wonderfully. Again, bravo.
That monologue
Is that actually Marilyn?
God help you if you are an ugly girl,
'Course too pretty is also your doom,
'Cause everyone carries a secret hatred
For the prettiest girl in the room.
-- Ani DiFranco
The beauty of the body being more ephemeral than that of the heart, the feminine inspired Ronçard, in the life of the roses... without this changing the life expectancy of men, which remains shorter, precipitating the Doing in the Ocean of our common dreams.
Tears by your voice thanks you.
How about no
This is tradgic 😢
Wow Karliene never disappoints! This is so beautifully heartbreaking, as if Marilyn - Norma Jeane - herself had composed and sang it. You are a true artist, you are able to touch my soul with every song ... I feel as if, after listening to each of your songs, parts of me change and I am never the same. Beautiful indeed. Thank you, Karliene! ❤️🌸
What a beautiful comment. I'm so touched. Thank you so much for coming by to listen :)
@@Karliene I have much admiration for you and you've truly made my day with your reply! ❤️🌸
This is an amazing way of telling the story of Norma Jean and showing her struggles. So realistic yet so dreamy. I really enjoyed listenning as someone who takes interest in Marilyn Monroe and her story. Truely amazing!
Thank you. I'm delighted you enjoyed it
How on earth do you manage to make such gorgeous masterpieces EVERY SINGLE TIME?! this is beautiful! A perfect homage to Marilyn Monroe.
Edit: also not sure if this was purposeful, but where you placed the lyrics with the black bar across her eyes was also genius, after all the eyes are the window to the soul as they say.
Oh, thank you so much. I so loved making this one, and yes, the black bar across the eyes was very intentional. All we see is the iconic, sensual red lips and blonde hair of Marilyn, the image we all know, but Norma Jean is in the eyes.
Your songs about historical women are glorious: quite hard to find such things elsewhere done to such quality. I love them all!
If I could make a request, there are two absolutely towering names in women's history that are criminally under-serviced in popular media(at least in the West): Wu Zetian and Hatshepsut.
astonishing stories from both women too.
Hatshepsut, as one of Egypts greatest pharoahs, survived every attempt by male successors eclipsed by her legacy to erase her name from history.
Wu Zetian was a peasant that clawed her way to being both the only woman to rule China in her own name(despite intense opposition) as well reigning over what could credibly be argued as the pinnacle of dynastic Chinese history.
Another amazing song ❤ I love your historical ones. Anne Bonny, Titanics Lament, the Elizabeth soundtrack. They're all perfect ❤❤❤
Thank you so much.
This song captured the essence of Norma Jean, the girl and the Marilyn the Goddess. Absolutely poignant and full of emotion 😭❤️
This is heartbreakingly beautiful and relatable. This is definitely being added to my list of favorites!
Mine too
Oh, I'm so glad you like it. Thank you.
I'm quite sure Karliene sings tales, or tells songs. Not a word out of place, and the music finds ways to be hummable on the first listen! I can imagine going straight to subscribe after listening to any one of her songs.
The historical songs are so amazing. Have you ever thought about writing a song about Elizabeth of York, the mother of Henry VIII?
I believe the reason why women myself included love her is not because she is Marilyn. But because when we look at her we know in are heart there is something deep within her wishing to be seen and when we explore her and find Norma Jean we understand her even more. As women we all find are selfs transforming to make others happy, we take awake are selfs for others because all we desire is unconditional LOVE. We question are value and worth to this world and most of all the love that it has. We forget how much we are so Valuable to life and that we are the love that is in this world, we are the biggest teachers of love, yet we forget to love the most important person, are self. She wished to be loved and seen, I hope she knows that women all over the world see and love Norma Jean for she show the flame inside every woman that wishes to be seen. Years have passed sense she has left and her flame still brightens the world, I think there is a reason for this. God did a magnificent job creating her. And we are all magnificent, this song is magnificent! ❤️
So true Raine .
Every song from you is such a gift, like if you knew exactly what I need to hear. Your voice, your music, the stories you tell, sometimes make me cry, but always soothes me. Thank you from Belgium.
Oh, I can't wait for this one
So hauntingly beautiful. Every aspect of this is amazing, Karliene's voice, the lyrics, the melodies, the way it really feels like Norma Jean is speaking through Karliene. Deserves so much more attention
Once again karliene hit it out the ball park,This is so heartbreakingly good and beautiful , the emotions brought out made me just stop for awhile after hearing it
Interesting touch how the lyrics act as a censor bar over her eyes, like she's hiding from or doesn't matter to prying eyes
Goosebumps. Thank you, Karliene
You definitely never disappoint. Every time you release a new song, I listen to it over and over again.
I met your voice since "Lament of Boromir'" (I must admit I almost cried that time) and ever since your songs became my usual playlist.
You are an amazing singer, Karliene. Please, never stop inspiring with your voice and lyrics!
Your songs always reaching deep under my skin. The emotions you transfer with your voice, your music and your lyrics are incredible. The songs always have so much meaning and touches the heart. Thanks for the journey, Karliene
Hey Karliene, love your work, and this song was exceptional! Would you ever do a song about Jay Gatsby from the Great Gatsby? That would be epic. Thanks again for all you do!
