𝗚𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗮, 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟯
Some 10,000 Celts are thought to have lived here in the 3rd century BC. I look out past the archeological site to the burial mounds rising in the distance and imagine all the people who had traversed these plains… the routine of setting up camp and then leaving; the sounds, the smells, the trepidations; preparing the animals, living next to the elements… Mongolia, September 2003 I have spent a fascinating time with a Mongolian nomadic family… contemplating their connection to the Celts, moving livestock from summer to winter pastures.
𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝘆𝗮, 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟯
On the road to Konya, we visit a caravanserai; a stunning building. Susan Whitfield, in her book Life Along The Silk Road, describes these structures as “stopping places for itinerant merchants, their servants and animals… The bazaar was held here…. Ten or more languages might be heard at any one time, as people haggled over the silks, spices and other luxuries… ” This causes me to reflect on the concept of home, the nomadic impulse and our relationship to nature, the land… our collective histories merging into something new. Is it happening too quickly in our contemporary times?

my grandpa used to show me that DVD of that concert on repeat when I was a kid, Im now 22 and still obsessed with Loreena and her work, thank you grandpa
Interesting it was reversed for you. I as a cello player and musician, found Lorena's music I gave my 90-year-old mom the CD book of secrets. She was listening to it when The highwaymen came on and Mom said in the 1950s, in school, they studied the poem The highwayman. So she fell in love with Lorena's music, through that album and that song, at an old age.
4/2024 I never get tired of listening to her heavenly music. ❤

Loreena is the only artist whose fan club I have joined. She manages herself, produces her recordings, writes and arranges the music and the words, also plays multiple instruments and is one of the best vocalists ever, in a unique style. She creates a soundscape unlike any other. The praise seen in the other comments is well deserved.

Better than Loreena is Azam Ali. The album Vas the song 'in the garden of souls' and 'Samaya', beautiful, just beautiful. She have a very calm voice, low key. But you have to hear to appreciate. I think she is Iranian but she is in America.

Why is this a masterpiece? Because everything is perfect: the scenery, more beautiful than any concert hall in the world. Musicians: by the best of their own. The rythm and the melody that makes me travel to arabian territories. Loreena has the unique talent to modernise and universalise and enrich ancient tunes. My only problem is...to come back To the real world when the song is over. Lorreena, carry on ! Dont stop the caravan!

In a little hole-in-the-wall "New Age" shop in Capitola, California, Summer of 1994, I was instantly mesmerized by the music playing in the background. The song was All Soul's Night, and at 15 years old, I wanted to hear more. I _had_ to hear more.
That voice, that angelic power, reached me to my very core. So I asked the Shopkeep who the singer was, and if they had any of her music in stock. They pointed me to a stack of cassettes, I bought the first one I touched, and I asked my parents to play it on the 2 hour car ride home. And that was when I became a fan of Loreena McKennitt.
Probably not a lot of 15 year old boys find themselves thoroughly enjoying this particular genre of music, but I never let genre, trends, or anything else dictate my taste in music. If something truly speaks to me, I listen.
Loreena's music got me through a lot of teenage angst, a lot of unrequited love, a lot of heartache. Somehow her voice strengthened my hope and resolve, even at my darkest moments. I am eternally grateful.
Twenty-nine years (and several albums) later, and I am still a big fan. Every time I listen to The Visit, I feel like I'm 15 again, listening to each song for the very first time. It's like a favorite painting, enjoying it over and again, and no matter how many times I look at it, I still manage to discover some new detail that I missed the last time.
Loreena's music is timeless: if I had just now discovered The Visit, knowing nothing else about the album, I would honestly think that it had just recently been recorded and released. It was released 32 years ago!

She has the voice of an angel. I become so absorbed into the lyrics and beauty of her enchanted voice. Each song is a mesmerizing experience. The first time I heard "The Mummer's Dance", I immediately bought the Book of Secrets CD, and played that song over and over and over again. I could never grow complacent listening to that song ...or any other song she sings. I only recently stumbled upon her videos on UA-cam....I am so very, very glad I did. ❤️

I was able to see her live in Vancouver and it was the best concert i have been to. The way her voice resonated throughout the theatre...still gives me goosebumps.

I live in Vancouver Canada and the last time she toured here was 9 years ago compared to her Ontario where she will be doing 2 dates this month. Been in love with Loreena's music and soul since I first heard her recordings in late 1990's.. she has tapped into a deep reservoir of the human soul- "beautiful" and "moving" hardly describes her music!

This is simply superb. The purity of her voice is amazing. I have only recently discovered McKennit and I really wish I had discovered her earlier. What a gap! I've managed to get tickets for her forthcoming London concert though so I'm really looking forward to that.

This performance puts me in another world. I don’t know how I managed to escape Loreena’s music for the greater portion of my life but I did. About 3 years ago I ran across a used cd of Loreena’s in a discount CD rack. I took a chance on it for a couple of bucks and it was amazing! It had Caravanserai on the cd and I was blown away with her talent and her musical diversity. I have since purchased everything she has produced and I listen to her recordings often. I love her voice and the varied musical influences she uses in her recordings.
this is my favourite Loreena's song. Yeah, I saw her live and she's simply stunning. her lives are wonderful, her voice just perfect and sublime. I hope to see her again!

Between Lorenna and Blackmore's Night.....I could listen to both the rest of my life and not tire of listening to their music. I sang a Lorenna Song at a "Burlesque" show and it went over extremely well. I was the Emcee for the show and I had so much fun singing the song (All Souls Night) and I sang the song while walking amongst the audience....Even the manager of the facility told me he really liked it. Looking to do more in the future of hers.....she is so good! :)
Saw her when she came and performed at the small but wonderful Jubilee Theatre in Calgary, AB. Phenomenal experience!
