I saw her live years ago in LA on tour. She and the musicians had been cooped up on a bus for 10 hours or more, stuck in LA traffic so they had to go directly to the venue. When they got on stage and started to play, all of the built up tension exploded and they drove it into the music. They were on fire! It was amazing!!! They played The Mummers' Dance and the whole theater almost experienced lift off. And she is the real deal, uttering my favorite sentence I've ever heard: "This next piece I wrote while I was travelling across Russia by train last summer." Love her.
Loreena is the only artist whose fan club I have joined. She manages herself, produces her recordings, writes and arranges the music and the words, also plays multiple instruments and is one of the best vocalists ever, in a unique style. She creates a soundscape unlike any other. The praise seen in the other comments is well deserved.
She is indeed a treasure, but it should be remembered that she also re-records very old songs that she has not written, and that she surrounds herself with some of the finest musicians of our time. She will be the first to point out that these people deserve just as much praise as she herself receives. So glory for Loreena indeed, but glory also for all of the others with whom she works.

Interesting it was reversed for you. I as a cello player and musician, found Lorena's music I gave my 90-year-old mom the CD book of secrets. She was listening to it when The highwaymen came on and Mom said in the 1950s, in school, they studied the poem The highwayman. So she fell in love with Lorena's music, through that album and that song, at an old age.

What an artist ! What a voice !! What an angel !!! What a beauty !!!!! How do all these _incredible_ qualities come together, packaged in one person ? Wish I knew.
In a little hole-in-the-wall "New Age" shop in Capitola, California, Summer of 1994, I was instantly mesmerized by the music playing in the background. The song was All Soul's Night, and at 15 years old, I wanted to hear more. I _had_ to hear more. That voice, that angelic power, reached me to my very core. So I asked the Shopkeep who the singer was, and if they had any of her music in stock. They pointed me to a stack of cassettes, I bought the first one I touched, and I asked my parents to play it on the 2 hour car ride home. And that was when I became a fan of Loreena McKennitt. Probably not a lot of 15 year old boys find themselves thoroughly enjoying this particular genre of music, but I never let genre, trends, or anything else dictate my taste in music. If something truly speaks to me, I listen. Loreena's music got me through a lot of teenage angst, a lot of unrequited love, a lot of heartache. Somehow her voice strengthened my hope and resolve, even at my darkest moments. I am eternally grateful. Twenty-nine years (and several albums) later, and I am still a big fan. Every time I listen to The Visit, I feel like I'm 15 again, listening to each song for the very first time. It's like a favorite painting, enjoying it over and again, and no matter how many times I look at it, I still manage to discover some new detail that I missed the last time. Loreena's music is timeless: if I had just now discovered The Visit, knowing nothing else about the album, I would honestly think that it had just recently been recorded and released. It was released 32 years ago!

She has the voice of an angel. I become so absorbed into the lyrics and beauty of her enchanted voice. Each song is a mesmerizing experience. The first time I heard "The Mummer's Dance", I immediately bought the Book of Secrets CD, and played that song over and over and over again. I could never grow complacent listening to that song ...or any other song she sings. I only recently stumbled upon her videos on UA-cam....I am so very, very glad I did. ❤️
I was able to see her live in Vancouver and it was the best concert i have been to. The way her voice resonated throughout the theatre...still gives me goosebumps.

I live in Vancouver Canada and the last time she toured here was 9 years ago compared to her Ontario where she will be doing 2 dates this month. I actually prefer this version because of that crazy Turkish instrument used in the live performance. It just gives the song that something "extra". The fact that many of Loreena's songs are even better live than when recorded simply shows that she is an artist of the highest order.

Between Lorenna and Blackmore's Night.....I could listen to both the rest of my life and not tire of listening to their music. I sang a Lorenna Song at a "Burlesque" show and it went over extremely well. I was the Emcee for the show and I had so much fun singing the song (All Souls Night) and I sang the song while walking amongst the audience....Even the manager of the facility told me he really liked it. In a little hole-in-the-wall "New Age" shop in Capitola, California, Summer of 1994, I was instantly mesmerized by the music playing in the background. The song was All Soul's Night, and at 15 years old, I wanted to hear more. I _had_ to hear more.
That voice, that angelic power, reached me to my very core. So I asked the Shopkeep who the singer was, and if they had any of her music in stock. They pointed me to a stack of cassettes, I bought the first one I touched, and I asked my parents to play it on the 2 hour car ride home. And that was when I became a fan of Loreena McKennitt.
Probably not a lot of 15 year old boys find themselves thoroughly enjoying this particular genre of music, but I never let genre, trends, or anything else dictate my taste in music. If something truly speaks to me, I listen.
Loreena's music got me through a lot of teenage angst, a lot of unrequited love, a lot of heartache. Somehow her voice strengthened my hope and resolve, even at my darkest moments. I am eternally grateful.
Twenty-nine years (and several albums) later, and I am still a big fan. Every time I listen to The Visit, I feel like I'm 15 again, listening to each song for the very first time. It's like a favorite painting, enjoying it over and again, and no matter how many times I look at it, I still manage to discover some new detail that I missed the last time.
Loreena's music is timeless: if I had just now discovered The Visit, knowing nothing else about the album, I would honestly think that it had just recently been recorded and released. It was released 32 years ago!
I too have been listening to Lorena McKinnet since I heard her music in 94 when I turned into a teenage-mutant-sixteen-yo!

summer of 2023 and I was reintroduced to her angelic voice on a video from Faerie Magazine of all things! I'd forgotten how beautiful her voice & lyrics are and the masterful way she fuses the Celtic and middle eastern sound. The older I get, the more swept away and transported I am by this ethereal music.🌛✨🌜

She has the voice of an angel. I become so absorbed into the lyrics and beauty of her enchanted voice. Each song is a mesmerizing experience. The first time I heard "The Mummer's Dance", I immediately bought the Book of Secrets CD, and played that song over and over and over again. I could never grow complacent listening to that song ...or any other song she sings. I only recently stumbled upon her videos on UA-cam....I am so very, very glad I did. ❤️

I was able to see her live in Vancouver and it was the best concert i have been to. The way her voice resonated throughout the theatre...still gives me goosebumps.

I live in Vancouver Canada and the last time she toured here was 9 years ago compared to her Ontario where she will be doing 2 dates this month. I actually prefer this version because of that crazy Turkish instrument used in the live performance. It just gives the song that something "extra". The fact that many of Loreena's songs are even better live than when recorded simply shows that she is an artist of the highest order.

Between Lorenna and Blackmore's Night.....I could listen to both the rest of my life and not tire of listening to their music. I sang a Lorenna Song at a "Burlesque" show and it went over extremely well. I was the Emcee for the show and I had so much fun singing the song (All Souls Night) and I sang the song while walking amongst the audience....Even the manager of the facility told me he really liked it. Looking to do more in the future of hers.....she is so good! :)
Saw her when she came and performed at the small but wonderful Jubilee Theatre in Calgary, AB. Phenomenal experience!
