Complete side note, if anyone is struggling with hard water/water spots, I have found going to the camping section at Walmart and buying an inline water filter definitely cuts back on water spots, not perfect but a good improvement!
Yeah I used to use a couple of those little RV filters chained together. Definitely better than nothing. I remember a couple decades ago, I had just got my first car and license so I loved washing it, and I think it was a Mr. Clean car wash accessory.. but it was a soap gun and water filter hose attachment. You would wash the car and switch to the rinse setting at the end and it would filter the water for the final rinse. It actually worked quite well, and my black car would indeed dry spot free.. though the refills were about $10 and I only got a few washes out of each one. But this was before microfiber drying towels, so it was terry cloth or chamois or nothing, so I happily bought the cartridges.
If you can find the cannon spray on sale it is almost worth the price for the garden hose sprayer and quick connects. I run an old gas Honda pressure washer that puts out 2400 psi and flows 2.6 gpm. The MTM and Apex combo works great and provide a solid five minutes of dwell time on average which gives me plenty of time to detail the nooks, crannies, and door trim. Thank you for the video.
Bought a similar unit from Chemical guys what seems like 6 years ago. I use it occasionally, just to put some soap on. (when I dont feel like dragging out the pressure washer)
When foam cannons first came out and were all the rage I bought a few different ones here and there, used them religiously for a while, but found it really made no difference from just a good pre-rinse followed by a traditional wash. Freshly corrected yes, like you I will attempt to avoid contact as much as I physically can, so I still have my MTM cannon that I keep on my truck, but other than that I have pretty much stopped using foam. If a vehicle is particularly dirty I do a simple Road Warrior & Dirtbuster mixed pre-soak out of an IK sprayer, followed by a thorough rinsing then a traditional wash. It works for me!
I picked up a SZSXHX FOAM CANNON, off Amazon, for maybe $25, or $30 bucks? Can’t remember the exact price, but it came with 7 different size tips, for different pressure, and so far, I absolutely love it? I get super thick foam, with Mr. Pink soap, and a green tip? 2500 PSI Green works Powerwasher , two thumbs up!👍👍
When I first started I bought a Gilmour flowmaster with the brass mix ratio slide adjustment, which has been changed to a newer version. I still use it from time to time and it produces reasonable foam with 3oz of soap. The newer version is available on Amazon for around $40. But I haven’t tried the new one so I can’t recommend it.
I bought a 2021 ram 3500 dually crew cab long bed that’s black. I don’t have anywhere to was in the shade. My current routine is a rinse with a cheap ryobi electric pressure washer. Then I use the MJ foam cannon with smaller jet using mckees 37 soap. I foam the whole truck and use thick rag company microfiber towels and once it’s out of the bucket it doesn’t go back in. I also started using a DI tank for the rinse. I do not rinse till I wash the entire truck and it leave no spots.
Hey Brian, I really wish someone could come up with a foam gun that's decent with just a hose. I know its not likely, but hey we can dream. Could you test out the Adam's "Premium" foam gun? they have two versions. One looks like every other foam gun, and another that boasts a different design. Curious if it makes a difference.
I bought a similar unit from Chemical Guys years ago before I owned a pressure washer. It produced slightly better results with mildly thicker foam than the unit you tested but not much.
Brian, thanks for the review. I purchased a turtle wax foam cannon when I began my auto detailing business about 3 years ago and I still have it. Currently, I have a couple of Trinova and Amazon foam cannons to use for my customers vehicles.
I have the car wash cannon or the foam gun whatever u can call it and for me it foams pretty well and stays on the car. It probably depends on what soap u use
O.k. I bought one of these foam cannons a year ago. I detail my 2017 Ford Escape Titanium AWD 2.0 turbo. I have a small garage. I can't put the Escape in it. I have a power washer. But for a maintenace wash. I still use a garden hose. I found using the Megiuar's Gold car shampoo in my foam cannon. I add 3 oz's of car soap to the cannon and fill with Distilled water to the top and swirl the soap instead of shaking the cannon. Gives me the best results possible. You get about 5 minutes of soapy foam. Starting at the top of my SUV. Then quickly move about it. Will work. You can shut off the switch on the cannon and refill 3 oz's and add the distilled water. I buy distilled water at Wal-Mart by the gallon. I don't have soft water either. That's why I use distilled water. Let the soap or foam sit. It will lift the dirt up. Then rinse with the same cannon. Without taking the cannon off. Then dry the SUV off. I use Protect - all R. V. Wax. It goes on the trim and paint and glass. Easy on and off. This method is cheap and easy-to-use. Shawn.
Hello Brian, personally I do pre wash my car. I prefer to pre wash up to a point that my car is almost clean before I step up to the contact wash. In that way I try to prevent swirls as much as I can. Products I'm using now are Gyeon Bug&Grime followed by a cover of Bilt Hamber Autofoam. Works really well for me this time of year. Greetz Will
As much as ONR has its place in many parts of detailing, like interior glass & vents…I won’t maintenance with it. I tell my customers a detailer reduces the amount, depth and length of micromarring throughout the life of the car, ONR doesn’t promise that lol it promises faster work. With maintenance clients I see every 3-4 weeks that have good coatings or Jescar Ultra Lock Plus on them; I use stars & stripes from chem x!! Now THATS efficiency without having to worry about scratching paint, especially during the drying process.
I have a similar garden hose foamer, it works better than the one tested. I use it mainly during the early and late season washes when the daytime temps are in the high 30s-40s and freezing is possible overnight. I don't want to risk freezing my pressure washer or having to haul it in and out of the basement. This was a fun review to watch, thank you!
In 2017 I picked up one of those guns, being really new to detailing and thinking I'd never buy a pressure washer. It does what it needs to do in a limited way. But after a couple of years I stopped using it and now I'm looking to buy a pressure washer. Although give me two years and see what I'm saying then🤦🏽♂️ Certainly these are cheaper and easier then having to monkey with a pressure washer, but I'm hoping there's going to be more satisfaction when I'm spraying foam from my MTM foam cannon 😊
You need to use a specific foaming detergent which is far thicker than the regular car wash detergent. The one I normally use on my pressure washer 1 litre foamer says add 900ml of water and 100ml of detergent. It's very thick and stays on 3 times longer than what is used in the video. Use a specific snow foaming detergent
Totally depends on the pre-wash whether it needs thicker foam for a longer dwell time. As an example, bolt hamber autofoam achieves the same results whether used through a foamer or pump sprayer. An effective pre-wash/foam doesn't need 10 minutes+ to be effective, 1-2 minutes is more than enough.
Thanks for the review on this item Bryan I've seen this unit sitting on shelves and always was skeptical if it's was any good and your review just convinced me not to purchase it awesome videos 👍
That thing is anything but a cannon. I guess you really need to sell the rinseless wash to your customers as it would be the more effective method. Take their vehicles to the carwash and give it a high pressure rinse. Then take it home and have at it. I've learned to like the rinseless wash. Get your $20 bucks back, it might cover lunch one day. Thanks for sharing Brian.
The concept is actually pretty good. Maybe better quality units will make something decent that can be used with a garden hose and it’s pressure capability. I hate getting my gas pressure washer all ready to go, firing it up and making a bunch of noise
I tried chemical guys unit for a customer and it used alot of product 2 full containers for a car and it was runny so I couldn't recommend it and sent it back. The lack of pressure simply can't be replaced and causes poor suction from the pickup tube so thick mixtures can cause high dilution ratios and the lack of aeration makes these products ineffective, the best solution for a presoak is a large spray like the ik 9 pro, it uses a little more product than a foam cannon but can deliver a more concentrated and sticky foam.
Pretty sure I bought the same unit but it was from chemical guys back in the day, thought it did really good until I got a real pressure washer lol. Great video sir.
Brian one question maybe a video idea; how do you clean both the pickup back window and the window at the front of the cap? Not much space and if they are not sliding windows even a bigger problem.
Thanks for this video i have been curious about it myself. I ended up getting the Autoglym Cannon which works great for the price i think. I always Pre-Wash and then 2 bucket wash

Whoa.. 10.5 gpm *!!* from a detailing focused pressure washer. That’s serious business. My gas unit is 3.8 and it feels like a fire hose compared to the 1.9 of my electric.

I have one of the original PA foam cannons and Nilfisk pressure washer. I haven't been able to justify going up to a Kranzle yet to be honest. I was shocked at the pressure you were getting in the beginning though Brian. Was that from the pressure washer? Surely that wasn't tap pressure?
Looks ALOT like the Chemical Guys foam sprayer. Works for light grit but I find myself pulling out my Big Boi Pressure washer with QD fittings which makes things easy enough to use every time. I found the garden hose sprayer will get "stuck" or "stiff" over time and lends itself to sit on the shelf more often than not. It's mainly used to use as a SOAP applicator when I'm far too lazy on a Sunday to do anything. Same as your results.

Do you "pre wash" your car before a contact wash?
Yes it’s a must to help loosen everything up and let it dwell
Always
Dislodge with pressure washing after using ONR on IK sprayer, then decide if use Lithium Double Tap or wash with ONR
Yes, always. Usually ONR in a Marolux sprayer, sometimes foam from a foam cannon.
Yes.
In my experience, a pressure washer by virtue of its pressure, removes more surface contamination than a hose nozzle.

I have one as well that works just fine. 👍
Brian, in your dreams! 5000psi at 10+ gpm. Are you kidding me? I repair commercial washers and what you quoted would cost 5k+.
