Great video and love your comment about how people are doing videos on UA-cam and complain about weights or aggression of any razor. I strongly believe any razor is a good razor to someone. Whether it’s because of budget, the texture of their hair and skin, styles and colors of the razors. I’m 43 and started de shaving when I was 20 yrs old because like u im Italian and I have sensitive skin coupled with thick coarse hair. Cartridge razors tore my neck up and would wait to shave for a week so I could let the ingrown hairs go away. Horrible. I started with one of those as seen on tv de razors and even tho mostly ever de shave channel would trash such a razor once my technic was down I got BBs shaves and no irritation or ingrown hairs. I have of coarse over the last 20+ years added to my collection and tried many blades out to hone in on my perfect comfort I look for . But as the saying goes “one man’s medicine is another man’s poison “
Thank you for sharing your journey with DE shaving! It's amazing how finding the right razor and technique can completely change the experience. Your insights about personal preferences really highlight the diversity in shaving needs!
I used to use the cartridge razors the Mach 3 cartridges to be precise they are super expensive and I used to keep using the same blade over and over to get every last penny out of it. Which led to lots of redness and irritation usually then I switched the DE and never went back. I used to get weepers and tiny nicks on my neck but now I put the shaving Proraso directly onto a wet shaving brush and lather up directly onto my face I use the little extra and lather extra in the spot that got irritated sometimes and now I get no irritation each day I'm learning more. Also thanks to this channel I have improved my technique.
Agreed, technique including prep and post shave is the key. Over 1/2 a century of DE, SE, and straight razor shaving I'm still on a learning curve. Timeless is one of the great razor and accessory producers. Great vid. Cheers, John
Thanks for sharing your experience, John! I totally agree. I'm always learning as well, but I like to share what I've learned in a communicate that through video here on UA-cam.
@@JRL22-Tango yea technique is definitely we’re it’s at. Like I put in my post I started with a cheap $19.99 as seen on tv de razor 20 + years ago and once I learned my technique I got BBs shaves with no irritation. Now I will also say when I first made the switch I was still stuck on using foam from a can to shave with which I learned was another big reason I used to get so much irritation and in grown hairs. After I had my technique down pat I started exploring into shave soaps and creams. My first was tobs sandalwood which till this day I still love their product a lot. In fact got me a tub of the royal forest just last month. But long story short using good soaps and creams greatly enhances your shave experience and comfort . I can use the famous R41 with a feather and with the proper angle and touch I get a nick free shave and super smooth glass like finish. But along with technique comes wisdom on properly matching the right blade with the right razor. Because of my thick coarse hair I tend to stick to the super sharp blades because the less strokes I have to make to get through the hair the less chances of irritation I get. But hey different strokes for different folks lol
I finally got a DE razor 🪒 and after watching several of your videos I used it ….not one cut or knick !!!! I think i got the technique down - I used shaving oil and then my shaving cream and went slow …best shave ever ! Close , smooth …thx for the tutorials ! No more cartridges
So I got the panosonic arc5 as you recommended… it’s incredible!!! So quick and easy. Hardly any prep. Very nice considering I have to shave every other day for work. Thanks for the recommendation! 👍🏼
I recommend people let a hot towel rest on their face for at least a minute before they shave because I've noticed that it really opens up your pores and softens your facial hair really well.
Great video as always! Great advice! Never tried a slant but I'm not sure i want to. I know you said everyone should learn to use an aluminum razor but rockwell has me loving the weight. Ive even changed my mind on wanting the timeless ti 95 to the stainless 95 because I enjoy the weight. It's a part of my technique..hope you have a great week Dave and still praying for your foot..

Im actually now really comfortable with the 4 plate. Very efficient. I'd like to try a Timeless as well at some point. Best wishes. Happy Holidays! -Chris
@@OhioShaves I really like the negative blade exposure coupled with the wide blade gap. it's a perfect razor for beginners who have made the switch. It's also excellent for a quick and dirty 6am shave. Don't have to think much about angle and pressure. I recommend a sharp blade like a Personna Comfort Coat, Gillette Silver Blue, or Bic Chrome. Also a Feather, but I don't really like those blades.
Another great instructional video, Dave! I’m definitely utilizing the face-lather technique more and more over the bowl-lather process. IMO, I like the environment you do your videos in. While watching, it seems like you’re talking directly to me. GO BLUE!!!🔵🟡〽️
So true about being able to use any razor if you have good technique. i even think that beginners can benefit from using a somewhat aggressive razor because it forces you to learn good technique. It did in my case anyway. After that most other razors become a breeze to use. What do you think of that theory?
Another great video Dave. Still waiting my timeless slant to arrive. Does slant more aggressive than regular razor? I’ve shaved with rex sentry last week. First time ever shaved with slant. Got nicks some places but somehow smooth result too. the sound of shaving somehow very satisfying even for only 4th day growth. Just Need more time to learn the technique I guess.
Well, this soap is so slick and well-made that it doesn't break down so even after you wash it off it still feels like it's on your face. Taking the razor over an area that's already been shaved is easier with a high-quality soap. Hope the answer is your question.
Hi, have you ever tryed cella shave cream? I highly recomand it, to me Better then tobs. I recantly bought 1 tub and will buy 4 more. Good video as always
Do you think this would be a good ‘first’ safety razor for head shaves? I have the Proof, and I love it. Plan on buying the Timeless Ti master set eventually…but maybe this would be smarter to learn on? Thoughts?? I also ordered a bunch of AccuForge Superstainless blades based off of your videos on the past. I am looking for really close to Feather sharp, but none of the sticky crap….thanks for the vid.
For the price point it's definitely something you could learn with and it's actually darn good at shaving. 📦Aluminum Slant: timelessrazor.com/products/aluminum-slant-by-timeless-razor?rs_ref=giTOaqy8
I use a slant for my scalp in the shower. I prefer the slant to a straight for my scalp. Is it perception or reality? I cannot say, other than I get near BBS; which is all I could ask for. NOTE: I do not yet own the Timeless; yet, still comfortable in recommending this.
Thanks for reaching out! I totally understand how frustrating skin irritation can be. I hope my tips help you find some relief and make daily shaving a breeze! Here is my video: ua-cam.com/video/rMSHi9A907s/v-deo.html
My first shave with the AL Slant I was surprised by how much it feels like the Henson. I consider it one of my top razors especially for the price. However you kinda have to pay attention while shaving with it. It does nick more than my Henson or Twig. However If I couldn't have a Henson this would definitely be my first pick. A&E's Woods and Spice is awesome. If you get it wet and look at it hard it will make the best lather. That lather pops so fast it is almost creepy. BTW, when you use an after shave do you forgo face balm? I usually go Thayer, Face Balm, After Shave. Unless I have a scented Face Balm then I just do Thayers and the Face Balm.
@ I’m not ambidextrous. I cannot do most things with my non dominant side. But I can lather and shave with either. I find that trying to reach across changes the angle in unpleasant and non rewarding ways. Wasn’t something I purposed to learn to do, it was just natural and made sense.
About how many uses do you get on a blade? On my 6c, I've been using an Astra, and have found that the 3rd use was notably worse than the 1st and 2nd. It tugged and didnt do quite as well.
@ Oh ok. At the price of them, it makes sense. I usually try to get 3-4. The blades are so cheap, going 10 shaves with one blade is just punishing your face 😂
@Tristin471 depends on blade and face. For me using Bic CP just 1 or 2 times would be punishing my face. Shaves 3-10 are where bic are in their top shape
Thanks🙏 Yeah, these are more common in my country and I wanted to choose between these two, and ask your opinion because I have known wet shaving with safety razor by your channel😁
Any quality open comb razor (from Gillette Old Type to ...) is better than any closed comb razor for long hair. Almost as efficient as straight razor, just much safer.
With rockwell 6c on plate 1 it's just impossible to cut yourself. Also impossible to get close shave 🙃. But with 6c you are getting 5 more plates for further progress.
