This variety is called “Russell Tail”. Beautiful orange with cream accents, really fluffy, can be a bit invasive though (in the best way). 😜

The name of first variety, Sandía means Watermelon in Spanish. The perfect name for pink and green blooms😊

I didn't even think of that, and I lived in Spain for over 3 years. Every summer in the tiny town I lived in a little old man always sat on a bench near the beach selling watermelons. They were perfectly round and about the size of a small soccer ball. The outside was a smooth dark green and the inside was deep red and hardly any seeds as if it was all the heart of the melon. He sold it by the slice. It was warm as if it had just been picked from the vine that morning, SO GOOD! I think of him every time I eat watermelon. --Sheila McDade in Chattanooga

I love echinacea! I do not deadhead because the finches love the seeds and i enjoy seeing them forage, jumping from flower to flower. I also get clouds of bluebirds on the elderberries. Warms my heart. I must say i watch your videos as soon as i wake up every day. Thank you Laura , i learn much from you.

I’m hoping these flowers are my answer - that and hardy succulents; I’m in So. San Diego, my back yard has FULL SUN most of the day, with hard packed dirt; water costs so much, so I’m going to rip out my sickly looking rose bush, and plant these flowers around the Queen palm. Thank you! BTW, you have a gorgeous yard - any wedding party would be blessed to take pictures in your yard! I’m sure your home is gorgeous as well.

Hi, Laura and Aaron. I have been watching you religiously for years. I’m not a commenter but every time someone writes a very complimentary and heartfelt note I feel they are expressing what’s in my mind as well.
Question: What is your edging routine now that you have so many new flower beds? I’m trying to achieve a natural edge with the half-moon hand tool but my mowing service is coming after and almost scalping the area with the string trimmer.

I planted some classic Echinacea purpurea last year in a front flower bed. I actually bought the plants from the “herbs” section of my local farm and feed store so the plants were pretty small. They didn’t bloom last year but bulked up with leaves nicely. This year each plant sent up dozens of blooms! They’re nearly 4ft tall! I have mine paired with some sunflowers and Autumn Joy sedums and it’s a nice combo.

I grew an entire flat of Cheyenne Spirit from seed, got them nice sized to put out and when I planted them in the garden I was so mad when something ate them off at the soil level! I have had some real pest pressure this year like never before. That Sandia is gorgeous. Coneflowers/Echinacea are a favorite of mine and now I will have to hunt that one down. I love my White Swan, I have it tucked in several spots around my garden also. These are going to be lovely planted en masse like that.

I can’t thank you enough for introducing me to echinacea just over a year ago, when I first found you! I love it so much that I tried my hand at winter sowing seeds from Johnny’s this past winter in milk/water jugs! I currently have 20+ of them (purpurea) down a sloped stacked stone border wall of the driveway, and seriously am so excited for them to creep and leap! I also have a couple of the orange/apricot varieties I picked up on clearance in a different section of the garden and they add such a great pop of color on an otherwise boring area! They truly are my favorite plant, thanks to you!

Absolutely correct about the warm colors! I swear it’s a cultural thing in Texas to plant lots of reds and yellows..lots of tropical plants too and I never understood why I didn’t like it as much but you’re right when it’s in the 100s for weeks on end you don’t want to look at warmer colors. Definitely have a softer cooler color preference

Good morning, Laura ☕️ Cone flowers are one of my favorites 🙌🏻 for the exact reasons you mentioned! Very hardy once established. Some of mine are almost 4 feet tall! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈

The colors of the echinaceas all together are so fun, and that Sandia is wonderful! And that planter....looks like you're down here in my territory (FL)! I really liked both of the lantanas you showed us, and those scarlet supertunias were really poppin'!

Everything is so beautiful. And I love the combination in the raised bed. I know it's not your norm but it sure is a fun pop of color. I like that you can find cool shades of red to mix in. Thanks for the fun inspiration. Keep it up.
