Would LOVE to see PW grow a plant and name it "Laura's Enthusiasm", because, well, no explanation needed. XOX! Laura, what would a plant look like if you created one? (Color, shape, size, texture, etc.)
Sitting in my vehicle at the grocery store watching this video, the lady in the car next to me yells out her window , Hea! That’s Laura from garden answer, I’d know that voice anywhere. We also got into a lengthly conversation about proven winners plant. Super nice. Thanks Laura for bringing people together.
Every day that begins with Garden Answer is a good day. We are on vacation with our wee grandchildren in Tobermory, Ontario. Now, they too are hooked on your videos. When we sit down for breakfast, they say “can we watch that garden lady this morning, Nana?” The answer is always yes, and they watch just as intently as I do and ask all sorts of questions. Thank you for starting our day off so delightfully.
Shout out to the editor of your videos! The music is always so perfect and I love the mixture of real time and accelerated speed parts. IMO you have the best videos on UA-cam. Thanks for bringing joy to my day! 🐝 🌾 🌻
Hi Laura :) Speaking of planting the grasses near the hoselink because they're tough and can take the hose being used around them (excellent point most wouldn't have thought of until it's too late) --- can you do a video of things to keep in mind when planning hardscapes and utilities in gardens? What you've learned over the years that works and doesn't work, shoulds and shouldn'ts - tips and tricks to help us newer gardeners. I'm so blessed to have found your channel!
I loved at 6:57 when you set down the grass and the whole thing disappeared into the ground! Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could plant that way all the time. Lol Thanks for such a lovely video. I love all the grasses but please give my compliments to the guy who edits your videos. This was so enjoyable to watch. Wonderful job!
@@kimby81 Shout out to Ken; this video had FABULOUS editing! I was thinking that as she began planting. Perfect music, perfect cuts to the critical steps. Not too much, not too little. This was the Goldilocks of editing!!!
We just moved to our new house, from an apartment. Your videos are a good reminder that not everything will do great the first year you plant them, and areas can fill in over time. That makes me feel better about some of the small plants that are struggling through this hot and dry summer. I look forward to seeing both my and your gardening space develop over time. Thank you!
@@kimberleyfrasquillo3684 Thank you! Having a frontyard and a back yard to enjoy has been wonderful. I have to hold back from packing them with plants as Laura packs her containers though, haha. I planted some perenials, that still have lots to grow, and I don't want to crowd them too much.
Those Tiger Eye sumacs look amazing! Love your excitement for your “babies”. I feel the same way. I find such joy in the garden even when the rest of life is in chaos.
I love learning about different varieties of grasses. I find that for every one I love there are 3 that I hate. They need to look very purposeful and not weedy. Sometimes it’s hard to find that perfect “look”
Kudos to Ken on his editing. I especially liked how Laura walked up with one of the grasses, dropped it on the ground, and *poof* it's planted. Like magic! 😉
Morning all. A day without Laura is a day without sunshine! Always enjoy starting my mornings with GA and learning something new. Thank you. Enjoy your day.
I would love a video of your favorite views of your garden. Like the view across the bed outside your kitchen door. I think you do this when you are talking, standing in front of a pretty back drop. It would be an opportunity to chat about what you love about a particular view and what you hope it will be in future. Hope that makes sense! In my garden these are places I like to put a bench or seating area so I can come with coffee in the morning and enjoy that view.
Laura, would you ever consider adding big boulders (5'×5' size) in your garden for visual breaks + winter interest? I feel like they add some strong vertical movement in the landscape and would give your garden more depth. They also have varying colors and shapes, just like plants.
I love how you show other plants and how they are doing that aren’t the feature of the video. And I love how you point out when things go awry! It really helps me solve some of my own garden challenges. 😍
I happened to have visited our local Garden Center last night and bought Grasses...I really enjoyed the q&a with your Mom. Shout out To Paul!! He does a GREAT job 👏
I love it when L's temps allow her back outside to plant! So well done. The flowerbeds for sure, but also the editing quality of Garden Answer's videos are so professional!! I literally watch them on a continuous loop instead of TV these days.
Hi Laura 👋 l would love to see your maze garden it looked so lush last time I saw you drive by it! I’m so inspired by your gardens. I loved the q & a with your mom she is such a treasure!
Apparently my local garden center received several of the ‘Niagara Falls’ grasses early too because I just bought 2 last week! They’re so gorgeous I’m planning to go back for 2 more today for my front garden🌾
You are such a hoot... I love how you get so excited that you don't really "stay on task" when showing us your new plantings. It makes us just as excited. Around here, we say it's a "squirrel" moment...(easily distracted)... Never stop. .

☕️Good morning Laura and GA friends. Beautiful, still morning, about 65 degrees here in southeast Michigan. I enjoy my morning coffee seeing beautiful plantings by Laura, and sipping a good cuppa. I hope you all enjoy a gorgeous day in the garden or wherever your planting space is for you. Thank you again, Laura! 🌻
Good morning Dee. I'm here in mid-west MI and yes, it's a beautiful morning. I'll just be doing a little grass edge maintenance and messing around in my raised bed gardens. Also, making fermented rainbow chard stems & carrot spears and dehydrating some parsley. Blessings to you.
@Dee Zahm ~ Good morning to you, as well! Thank you! Arizona desert dweller, here 🙋🏼♀️. I will be starting some seeds, inside my AC cooled home. This will allow me to get the jump-start on cooler temps, for planting them, outside, in October. You have a gorgeous day too, Dee!🤗
I ordered the lemon squeeze from PW a few months ago and as soon as I planted it, it took off!! I already love it. It’s easily quadrupled in size already and adds a beautiful bright spot of movement in my garden. I’ll definitely be getting a few more, they’re great!
My mom would have been 108 this year and thank heavens she never got to see Laura and her ambitious gardening or I would have diminished in her eyes until I looked liked that stressed geranium in her eyes. She would have been a HUGE fan of this channel! Sweet to think of that ❤
I love grasses too. Just an FYI, my Cheyenne Sky is easily double the width. I put mine in 3 years ago to hide utility boxes and it is doing just that. it is about 30 + inches wide and about 2.5-3 ft high. GORGEOUS grass though. I'm in zone 7b Southern Maryland with lots of heat and humidity and decent rain so I don't know if that makes a difference.
You know what? I used to not like ornamental grasses until I started watching you years ago & now I love it and appreciate it when I see it planted! Oh, & I didn’t comment yesterday but I really enjoyed the sit down with your mom! I sure hope she’s feeling better and on the road to mending that leg & ankle. ♥️
I love grasses because of you. I never used to know what to do with them and was always afraid they’d take over. You’ve given this old gma courage to try so many new things!! Annnnd since I tend to be a bit stubborn, that’s saying something!! LOL Tysm for all you and the entire GA team does to make my day a bit brighter! God Bless you all ~ Lisa
Loved when you got side tracked by all the pretty things in your garden and had to tell yourself to stay on task! 🤣 Reminds me of a T-shirt I want that says “Easily distracted by plants and cats”!
Love the ornamental grasses, Laura. They will make a huge impact out there in a few years….and they are 4 seasons. I especially like the bluish one, but who can pick a favorite? They’re all just so nice and each one brings something different. Every time I see that space I’m awestruck at how fast it’s filling in. It’s looking more like a park everyday! What a huge accomplishment! 😊🦋💕🕊
I’m glad she showed the Apache Rose that she planted last year. My garden is pretty small and I was contemplating putting one of those in but was afraid they’d spread like crazy. Hers looks like it’s pretty well behaved. Does anyone have experience with Apache Rose taking over in a flower bed?
@Heather W. ~ spreading/self-seeding was my concern too🙋🏼♀️. That information is important, to people with small lots. Hopefully, someone knows and can let us know.
Laura, I’ve watched you every morning for the last 5 years. Last year I moved to a new development in Nampa Idaho, where they plant two trees a carpet rose 5 day lily’s! They also plant 3 of the same grasses in every yard. I planted several Red Hot pokers, love those! Any ideas on lower grasses we can use as a filler for areas of the yard that don’t require a huge amount of water? Keep on educating all of us, love your whole family! Thank you 🥰
You might try an Australian grass called lomandra little con, make sure it’s little con as other lomandra get large. Hopefully you can get it there. It’s drought resistant and doesn’t need feeding
It’s never too late to start taking pictures. You could make a list of vantage points and start taking pictures now, even though it’s not from the very beginning you will still have amazing before and after shots of this beautiful space. I’m trying to take my own advice with documenting my quilt projects. I need to start with my current projects rather than trying to start at the beginning and get caught up!
My Dad loved to garden - he was from Kansas. Loved veg and flowers. Was always bringing in flowers from the garden for my Mom. :-) Vis a vis your comment about wet root ball, he used to add his fertilizer to the hole, then fill the hole with water to let it sink into the dry earth, plant his plants, heal in, then water again for it all to join together. Another step if you ever need it. :-) So love your information!!
This grass video really makes me happy! Your Sumac isn't like our Staghorn Sumac, here in Minnesota. It can take over a field in one season. It is bright red in the Fall.
Each year I add some different perennials - I'm hoping it all overflows with beauty when the next spring season arrives! 👏👍Loving the journey! The progression of your space inspires and is coming along so perfectly, your placements, color combinations, how tall, how wide, how many🤷I love to watch, learn, be inspired - as I share your love and excitement that gardening brings to all of us like minded souls!!
I love ornamental grasses. Especially Karl Foerster. We have so many different kinds in our landscape, I wish I could add more. I mean I think we have somewhere around 113 different ones. And it takes at least 3 weekends to cut them down for the next season. Yikes I wish there were ones that stayed green and you didn't have to cut them down.
@Lisa Cariglione ~ WoW!!!! 113 grasses🌾🌾🌾? You must have a prairie-looking acreage. I bet it l👀ks AMAZING! I can't imagine having to spend 3 weekends to shear them all back, though. I'm tired🥱 just thinking about trimming them all.😂🤣😂🤣🤪
Do you have any experience with Liriope Muscari Evergreen Giant? Not really a true grass. I bought two... do they spread a lot? Im using it, as well as Chlorophytum, as a ground cover for a tropical-garden to be. Would be really helpful if you can share yoyr experience.
Lisa I would dearly love to see a picture of your grasses! I'm trying to move to 'slightly less maintenance' here on our acreage and grasses are the ticket (except for Fall as you stated). I have 6 varieties and love them all.
Hi Laura, you are lucky. You get to work with your husband. He seems to have knowledge as well in this field. Did he also work at a nursery? You also have your mom and dad enjoying your passion and knowledge. Would love to see your dad in your some of your videos as well. We all enjoy seeing your sweet mom. When mom was alive, we used to talk about plants as well. Missing those days. So, seing you enjoying your life with your family, make me happy. Thank you.
Every time you put something new in the south garden I remember the first bush you planted. I was so overwhelmed by the big empty gardens. I kept thinking, how in the world will she fill all this space? Of course, I should never have questioned the “Power of Laura.” It is already like a dream! Absolutely gorgeous! You are an inspiration!
Good morning, Laura ☕️ I absolutely Love ❤️ all the grasses! They add such needed texture. The next year and following, that entire area will be exploding with color! Well done!👏🏻👏🏻Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
Hi Laura and everyone! I just love these three grasses! I recently learned how good these perennial grasses are for butterflies, other pollinators and little song birds too. They provide great cover from the sun and predators! Laura would you consider doing a garden tour of your grasses sometime this season, perhaps in Fall? I would so love to see what you've chosen as companion plants for your beautiful grasses -- I get so inspired by your eye for color and depth of plantings!
I just love the "squirrel moments"!!! There are just so many beautiful things to see!!! Such wonderful grasses, can't wait to see them more mature--- I really like the seed heads!!
I'm adding a new bed to my back garden that has a Ninebark Standard. I loved this video on grasses. I'm thinking these grasses will be a great addition plus some Echinacea, hedged by Tiny Tot evergreens in Zone 5!! Thanks for the video, once again!! Love your caring and sharing!!
Hi Laura & Aaron, I think a statue out in the grass loop where Laura planted the last three grasses that she talked about would look beautiful. Thank you for sharing your life's with us. I always start my day with Laura and it gives me peace and some comfort and more knowledge in knowing that I can do what you both do. I feel my severe anxiety become less when I watch Laura and then I take that out into my own garden and get my hands into the soil and just let the pressure and stress fall away. I stopped gardening for a long time in my life but I had to find something to help myself with my anxiety. Finding Garden Answer has helped me find some peace in my life. So thank you Laura & Aaron for taking us along and teaching us. God Bless you all!
Since most of these grasses are good for zone 9, you got me thinking about where I can put some. :-) I think it's really important to have that texture, and there's enough color variety to make it interesting!
I love grasses in the gardens of other people, but I have a hard time putting them in mine-except for Japanese Forest Grass and Liriope. I think it’s because these two have a tidy habit, but when I see others at nurseries, they look a bit weedy to me? I just need to take the leap! 😄
Really bad drought here in southeastern new england, never seen so many plants suffer so bad, watching your channel is like garden therapy to a point lol. recently my mom has started watching with me, i've been watching for like 7 something years now myself. Was just talking about needing more ornamental grass, hope to find some of those soon, or some like it.
Hi Laura! I am loving how your gardens are filling in! With so much vast space, have you thought of putting in a few large rocks to take up some space and bring an even more natural look to it all?
Hi Laura and Aaron! I really like grasses. My favorite is the Purple Fountain Grass. I wish PW could improve it to make it a perennial in lower zones. Thank you so much for sharing!
I love the blue grasses those are awesome! I commented on a video the other day too but I would love to see the horde of plants you guys have in pots, waiting for projects. Maybe give us a teaser of where things might end up or just your thoughts of some of the plants you have stored away and showin us how you’re keeping up on the maintenance of those too. I think it would be a fun video to see. Thanks! Love your channel!!!
Love this so much! Thank you for mentioning the first year shrubs and perennials being iffy! Planting a few new shrubs this season I needed that reminder that I need to give them some time! Thank you!
Lovely! I have two different grasses in my garden and love how they are so graceful. They bring such a completion vibe. Since I put pea gravel in my garden this year, I have been adding rocks the size from softball to basketball and a few larger for interest. Also some driftwood. For planting in the ground I always water the rootball and also add water to the hole before popping in the plant.
Ornamental grasses are one of my favorites! I love the interest, and movement, they add to the garden. I have several Miscanthus varieties but definitely want to add the Niagara Falls when available.
Hi Laura, loved every minute of this video as we are moving toward more grasses here on our hobby farm in WI. A drone would be helpful to keep track of the changes from year to year! I'm adding one to my Christmas list :)
Laura please don’t concern yourself with staying on task at the expense of not showing us something that is at the height of its beauty. I often find myself wondering as you whiz past something striking, ooh what was that? Everything looks so different from initial planting, I know it’s impossible for you to remember what you’ve showed and what you haven’t and I really appreciate the monthly tours. That usually fills in the spaces but not all things are at the height of their beauty. Does this make sense? I’m learning so much.
I always smile when you talk about your bottle brush. I’m in Australia and our bottle brushes (Callistemon) are a completely different plate. In fact, they would thrive in your garden, very water wise and bring in the bees etc
Would LOVE to see PW grow a plant and name it "Laura's Enthusiasm", because, well, no explanation needed. XOX! Laura, what would a plant look like if you created one? (Color, shape, size, texture, etc.)
A plant with all 4 garden colors!
I thinks it would be a soft pink, flower all season and never need deadheading! Wouldn’t we all love a plant like that😉
They certainly should name a couple after her! The Russel would be a fun name for and orange flower of some sort too 😜
Wow, great question...I hope this makes it to the highlights!🇨🇦

“Stay on task.” ….”Oh, here’s the Peter Cottontail Yarrow”. 🤣 🤪 The truest mind of any gardener excited about their plants! You crack me up.
@@kimberleyfrasquillo3684 🤣🤣🤣🤣my back hurts already
Thank you.
Your enthusiasm is so contagious! I want to say that on every video.
I love the grasses! It’s fun to watch them dance in the wind.
Laura even with the extreme heat the gardens look magnificent!!!
@Thea Cripps ~ Hello back to you! Have a wonderful day!
I love grasses especially when they blow in the wind. 🌾
OMGOODNESS!!! I Love Samantha Grace's mini mama vans!!! I saw a peek at her little leopard 🐆 vans.....so cute!!! I have a pair too🤭
Good Morning Ms. Laura & GA family. The grasses are beautiful, especially the Lemon Squeeze. I hope my garden center has that one. Have a blessed day.
@Beverly L M ~ Thank you! Good morning back to you, Beverly!👋🤗
I love grasses in gardens and your choices are perfect 🤩
Love four seasons! Always having something to look forward to. Everything looks fantastic :-)
You started with a dirt lot. It has been an amazing transformation.
Hi Laura and Aaron! I really like grasses. My favorite is the Purple Fountain Grass. I wish PW could improve it to make it a perennial in lower zones. Thank you so much for sharing!
Good evening from Delaware GA friends.
Hi Laura, you garden in filling in beautifully! Have you considered adding some large hydrangeas? They would probably look good with your new grasses.
Take a drink every time you see a Hoselink!
Good morning from Beltsville MD 🌞🌞
My granddaughter in law my grandson have a taken a lot of inspiration from your property to build on their land over here
BTW,, loved the visit with Mom.... Nice to hear others adventures n how it came to be..... U n Arron are super.
Love this so much! Thank you for mentioning the first year shrubs and perennials being iffy! Planting a few new shrubs this season I needed that reminder that I need to give them some time! Thank you!
Love the large bushes...color and size. Love to see more spaced out to provide interest.
Like magic
🍃❤️🍃
That Niagara grass is super gorgeous. Can’t wait to get some next year.
Always fun to go back and find the flowers that you trimmed back in today's video! Thanks so much for all you do!!
I've always shy away from grasses because I'm afraid they will spread! Your gardens are beautiful 😍
Hi Laura, loved every minute of this video as we are moving toward more grasses here on our hobby farm in WI. A drone would be helpful to keep track of the changes from year to year! I'm adding one to my Christmas list :)
Love the 2022 grass.
Good morning! The grasses are looking good. Favorite is Cheyenne, love the color.
@Kathy ~ Thank you! Good morning to you, as well!🤗
Ur gardens are looking beautiful, just love ur design plan, free and natural.
Have you guys heard of Doug Tallamy? You may find his gardening style beneficial as a long term foundation for your channel.
Indeed it’s really looking great each day.
I always smile when you talk about your bottle brush. I’m in Australia and our bottle brushes (Callistemon) are a completely different plate. In fact, they would thrive in your garden, very water wise and bring in the bees etc
What a lot of beautiful grasses and when they get big that will be a beautiful show. In your beautiful garden.
Good morning Laura, Question , do the seed heads release seeds and spread? Beautiful grasses. Thank you 🌻
