But that's the real brilliance here, there is still comedy in this fight. When the Prisoner suddenly shield-rushes Malenia, or the Guy pulls out the hammers? Those moments are really funny!! -- but not in the way that detracts from the dramatic tension of the epic battle. This is some really brilliant scripting, here.
To me at least, the comedy is the dramatic fight. Because after you've died an outrageous amounts of time to Malenia, the one run where things start to go well, you feel like it's the epic and greatest achievement in your life xD

A lot of people have pointed out how epic this episode is. I share their views, but I'd like to point out exactly what it is that makes this one in particular hit home so hard:
It is an actual fight. A genuine, honest to god fight.
We have seen our tarnished achieve victory before. We have seen him exploit weaknesses, we have seen him come out on top in both desperate and extremely silly ways. And we have also seen him flail around, screaming and dying, while trying to come up with some desperate gambit to turn it all around.
But we have never seen him stand his ground and FIGHT.
I think it's fitting that it took Malenia of all bosses to bring this out in him. There's something about her pride, her fury, and her relentless straightforward raw skill that forces anyone who fights her long enough to square up and put everything on the line.
A fine display, tarnished. Now prepare to witness true horror. :3

Fighting Radahn the first time was a fairly similar experience. Don't bother with the extra call in's, just a straight fight.
This is exactly how it feels fighting Promised Consort Radahn in the DLC. This is a boss with such pride and strength that it brings out the warrior inside our character to stand and fight
(At least in phase 1, phase 2 I summon because it’s too annoying)

The details on this... Frenzy caster getting picked off first after launching a single-hit spell (which Malenia is coded to always dodge) because he made the first attack and triggered agro... Prisoner still having no helm, keeping with continuity, shield charging to stagger and throwing away her shield to two-hand her spear, then gets grab animation'd... And the main boy putting his full strength build to use with not just Lion's Claw ash of war, but Dual Hammers!! And dodging Waterfowl!??
This is 100% meeting my high expectations.

honestly, playing the fight straight instead of silly jokes and just doing some legitimately great action animation was probably the best choice of how to portray this after all the build up.
also its not every day that carbot genuinely gets to show off as animators, but i mean, when you make little cartoons on youtube for over 10 years, you're going to get good at it.
The fiery ambient, character gradients, epic poses and fiery tone of the scene is just, perfection.
That duel was sos epic! With the spinning camera!

Not gonna lie, I shed a tear when he started to keep up with her attacks. It reminded me of when I started to keep up with her attacks after the 100th attempt and the close call losses and win.
Made it to the second phase to embrace new pain.
If you think about it it makes sense that he's keeping up, he faces Malenia in 3, he's fought her who knows how many times and then he come out weapons from his arsenal that do a lot of damage, any noob would behave like the Tarnished in this short 😅

I love how the Tarnished doesn't stumble and fumble as much here. You meet Malenia very late in the game by which time you are already a pretty experienced player. She still schools you, but you are no longer terrified of a challenge.

This was absolutely beautiful, got goosebumps when the music blared as he started dodging waterfall dance. Its amazing how Carbot can go from silly to epic in the blink of an eye, and it feels completely natural and earned. All our tribulations thus far have prepared our tarnished for this very moment!

The thing that I liked the most about that animation is that it is almost frame for frame how to actually dodge roll through that move. Roll roll, step around a second, roll roll roll.

Did you just give me several chills? Chills, like *actual* chills. How the hell did you do that?! This reminds me of DBZ Abridged, a show that basically turned every line into a joke, and yet when Gohan went SSJ2, they played it 100% serious and totally stuck the landing.

This so freaking this, I was sooo waiting for a let me solo her joke, thus ruining Melania so awesome intro but instead I got chills so many chills like i felt her like a true freaking Boss since first second I saw that entrance with all the golden summons and the music and her voice ant the corpses and the meaning of her lore I mean duuuuuudeee I want moreeeeee
After 150 tries, you gotta learn the boss sooner or later
Love the Prisoner coming in with the Shield Crash body check to steal aggro away from the host and onto herself, that is what it means to be a summon, sometimes you just gotta go "nope, host is more important, hey boss, over here!" even if it doesn't do much in the end.
plot twist: the host died while you are still in his/her world
I love tanking for others in co op, tip, throwing knives and kukuris are great for getting aggro if the boss runs away to hit a host panic dodging away after a hit.
I use" gaints flame take them" to keep Malenia off her feet. Makes her way easier to deal with.
I feel like pulling my hair out for the hosts who don't get the menu. I am being summoned for Promised consort and I run straight to draw the aggro and keep defending but host like a buffoon jumps in and gets killed the first opportunity he gets to roll.
Many times I threw myself as a sacrifice for the boss when I was summon and bosses HP was down in hopes that my de-aggro would give host good enough opening to kill the boss. You never know most of the time :(

You dont know the half of it! Carbot’s first series, StarCrafts (based on the RTS StarCraft 2) was so popular that Blizzard gave their blessing for carbot to make an official mod. You could play StarCraft in the carbot style. All character sprites, maps, and effects were 2D animated. I don’t know if a UA-cam animator has ever had such an awesome reception.
Man, watching The Guy go on the offensive in the funny Elden Ring Parody actually gave me shivers, and got more attention from me than any big budget film has for the last two years.

This is a masterpiece. Your animation of 3D space as the tarnished was dodging her waterfowl dance was freaking gorgeous, so smooth and yet so dang frantic. I can't wait for next week! (also, all the respect to the Prisoner for pulling an epic save out of nowhere)
The subtle quick eye glowing just before atking the boss was a wonderful touch-up following up with her swiftly dodging it, was such a smooth transition.

As much as I miss the excellent humour these videos are usually chalked with I think it was for the best that they played this one completely straight not only because of how damn epic and exhilarating it feels to play, especially the process of getting better and better with each consecutive attempt, but the fact that playing it straight and epic can ensure they not only meet our expectations after all the hype but end up actually EXCEEDING THEM. And also HOLY CRAP THE ANIMATION IS SO GOOD WTF GREAT JOB GUYS

It is so funny how the road lead to the boss is full of messages that depicted fear, determination and the "you don't have the rights". That is one my most memorable scene I have ever seen during my first playthrough.
I have never met you but fell in love with your cartoons over a year ago and I gotta say I'm proud of how far you have come. The animation style is great. You're not afraid to try new things and it shows. Amazing. Looking forward to part two.

Before Elden Ring, the game I played the most was MGSV, so you can imagine my delight when I heard its theme. Combining these two games in one package was the last thing I expected. You've done an amazing job with this piece. Bravo!

I just beat Malenia yesterday and felt just like this during the entire battle. Yes it was crazy and like most players I lost count of how many YOU DIEDs splatted on my face, but at some point I found myself reveling in the battle so much like never before. Somehow I didn't want the fight to end.
When I finally beat her, a surge of emotion kicked in, and while my fight wasn't half as epic as that in the video, I'm sure it's the same kind of emotional tribute that Carbot has put in this yet another masterpiece of a cartoon.
The excitement only grows stronger when I think of the first video in the 'So I Tried Elden Ring' series.

The double hammer setup reminded me of my friend who uses the same weapon along with a fingerprint shield.
It was damn near poetic when we fought Malenia. Got her on her last sliver of health and she did a waterfowl at the last second.
My friend literally went:
“YOUR ROT WILL NEVER INCFECT THESE LANDS EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!”
Then did a fucking war cry while doing the lions claw ash of war. They traded and killed eachother. I swear it was like i was watching an anime fight 😂

I just can't stop coming back to this one. Does our tarnished hero have a name? Thumbman? That fowl dance sequence was just so freaking cool that i get goosebumb every time i watch it, and then when he goes full anime with the hammers, i start laughing with that "this is awesome laugh".
