A few years ago the orange dash would have eliminated this model from consideration. Now I drive a Fiat 500e with orange stripes on the seats. Amazing what you can get used too. I still think the Smart is a great package. Great review!

I love that she provides the information in English, which is not her native language of course...it makes us listen intently to every word.
The crew should put a mic on her instead of using the on-camera mic. The sound is kind of variable sometimes.

I have a 2009 re:sprayed to candy apple red chrome exterior door handles daytime driving lights & I'm very pleased with it it performs much better now I've started using high octane fuel

I find this review to be very good and very informative. I am hoping to upgrade my 2008 Fortwo to the 2015 Fortwo. I used my Smart as a commuter vehicle. It is also great on highways. I find the seats to be comfortable for long trips (did a 300 mile trip from NJ to NH using just 3/4 of a tank of gas). I want to check out the 2015. This review is like a virtual tour of the 2015.

Awesome review! It's cool that they moved the battery now that the hood is slightly larger. I have an '09 Smart and it's kinda difficult to get to it in the passenger floorboard. Overall I think it's a cool new design but I still love the original. :)

***** And just one more complain! UA-cam has some option before upload to make the video "smooth" and "stabilized" -You need to NOT CHECK this option, it makes things so weird.
Karadjordje Trkulja Hey, we do not use that option indeed. If we stabilize pictures, then with the editing software. Sometimes yes, sometimes not. In this case, we just go some pictures stabilized, most not.
I trully prefer raw video, I mean that one directly from camera. If the video is sometimes shaky physicaly, that's fine. But those strange distortions are annoying (btw, in some other videos you can see that very clear, this one has few those examples)
I like the orange just trying to decide between orange and blue I. ( if i do get the orange I’ll get one just like that with the white with the orange contrast )

Thanks for the intro, and before that I've ordered a forTwo since mid-Dec2014 and I need to wait for the delivery of the car in July-Aug2015! The reason of waiting for such a long period of time is Hong Kong uses right-seat driving, as well as most (90%+) of the cars are automatic transmission owing to the traffic jam that nakes you very tired and annoying when using a stick shift; which Smart hasn't release it yet. I'm the first customer to place order for a 2015 Smart; which I buy it for my girlfriend; as our second car - also a fun car to drive. To feedback to your ques, I like the orange interior colour. But better orange on white rather than on black. The new Smart forTwo looks cute after took a second look. Originally I like the old ones exterior and the new ones of interior. But now looks good to me. Can't wait to drive it back home and you're good that you can experience it now... I have to wait for it for a very long time..

Forgot to update with you that I finally got the Smart forTwo for my wife last year but in Vancouver not in Hong Kong as we moved over there. She loves it very much! It is fun to drive and with very good fuel consumption!
I do really like the new Smart Fortwo and Forfour, I think they hit the nail on the head with todays modern city driving needs. And with competition such as the VW Up, Hyundai i10, Fiat 500 etc, I think the Smart will do very well. I, however, am going to wait it out and purchase the Brabus version when it arrives! That should be a lot more fun on the road!

The small Smart is a very practical car. The Smart is also ideal for longer journeys.
I actually like the Smart Fortwo. Don't see much point in the forfour since it costs a little more but it actually isn't better than other hatchbacks. I would pick something like a polo if I was looking for a 5 door hatchback, has 5 seats too...
However the Fortwo is an excellent city car and It has it's own appeal since there's nothing quite like it. Would be interesting to see what an all black new 2015 fortwo looks like on the outside and inside. Not so fond of the black/orange. I see the forfour being more popular, but there are other better choices than it.

kiwikozo Thanks for the feedback! Indeed I would e.g. pick the new Skoda Fabia in the small segment and not the forfour, however you get more car for the money when you compare fortwo and forfour. You really think the forfour is more popular? I thought other way around - I think the fortwo will remain stronger.

Stephen N Hey Stephen, thank you very much. Actually because we have so many productions, we are using several cameras, but this one is definitely the best. I always depends on the light of course you get naturally. In this case, we had clouded sky but sun on top of it, so it was very bright although you didnt had real sunshine. That makes excellent pictures :-)
Talking about the 2016 in 2014. Interesting. I just bought a 2015 Fit42. I like it as a conversation piece. The ride is rough and the gears shifting is also rough. For an around town car it's nice. I like the tight turning radius.

Exellent review of both models I think the 4 door version looks better and would drive better the wheel base is longer so the ride would be less choppy they did great improvements now you can have a manual gear box and gone is the single clutch that every body was complaining about. I'm from Canada and here we got the 450 model in diesel version and the 451 in gas only version in two door version I think they are going to sell more with the 4 door version and with a choice of more powerful engines an better transmission choices did you test drive the duall cluth version and what a bouth an electric version did they say any thing ?
V10PDTDI Hi! Thanks for the feedback! We couldnt test the dual clutch version yet, were no test cars available with that one. I am not sure if the forfour will come to Canada as it wont come to the USA :/The electric version will follow in approx 1 year!

Nah, Top Gear is an entertainment show that features cars. I like the show but they're not serious about every day cars and never provide any useful information like +Autogefuhl
I like this long format show, it's more relaxed and you get to hear all the reviewers thoughts on the cars.
lapamful I can't argue with this. On Topgear they burn down great cars like the Zenvo ST1 and Ferrari F50. And stupid hybrids like the P1 and 918 or Lafagrrari are praised.
At least Autogefühl is thorough and doesn't stick to stereotypes.
But hey, i said NEW Top Gear. With the three clowns gone, and some badass knowledgeable petrolheads like Chris Harris, Sabine Smitz and Matt LeBlanc replacing them, things could go on a different route than before.

I like the Smart however the colours are not very smart. The gray looks terrible, a small car should be brighter.

I like this new smart, well designed and especially the interiors are so improved, the only bad thing is the engine economy which got worse then the old version...i know it weights slightly more then the predecessor but it should consume less not more..
and also the price is outrageous, a tiny car like this is not worth that much money..should be under 10k euro at best..

Huge shame that it's ever so expensive, starting at over £11000 for the base model, then climbing as high as £13500.
They have even dropped the magnificent 799cc CDi engine September last year.
£11000 buy's you a top spec VW UP, and for the more cash strapped the equally brilliant Skoda CityGo.
Ive owned a Smart Cdi for the past five years, it returns brilliant economy of nearly 80mpg whilst the petrol versions were never the best in the economy stakes.
The new Smart is a great car no doubt, but at over £11000 before you add the options WAY TOO EXPENSIVE
Peter Lewis Agree, you pay a lot for brand and image in this case.
It looks much better and more contemporary, most people will purchase a contemporary vehicle .... :)

I was loking forward to this new fortwo but the new design is a disaster. The old design was so much better. Now... if they keep all the new interior and the new exterior, everything would be perfect. And they have to do something with the way they price this car. It is not selling as well as it can due to its price. If they want to sell it at the current pricing, they have to add more features in.
A Cabriolet video would have been nice too.

Joel Tay The new Smart is beautiful! I can't stop smiling looking at it and am ready to order one in all black with a red interior! If you don't like the new styling then you must be outside of the USA..because in the USA..most people made fun of the way this car looked..which prevented many people such as myself from purchasing it..especially men. The old look was very "cute" and feminine..and the car looked like a children's toy..especially the weirdly shaped headlights and the "smiley" face grille. That is *not* the look most American's want. We want a car that looks modern and sleek..and not like a toy. With this beautiful new redesign..Smart has given this car an *adult* and less feminine look. The headlights are gorgeous and beautifully rounded..and the tail lights are larger for more visibility (important in such a small car) and have a modern, premium shape and design. And the interior is a winner all around. Mercedes Benz knew what they were doing with this car..and realized how polarizing the old styling was. Now Americans such as myself who not only want a safe car but a beautifully styled one as well that doesn't look like a child's toy will purchase this vehicle. I can almost guarantee you this Smart car will be a much bigger success than the old one was..as I and many of my friends are already getting ready to place our orders based on the exterior styling changes alone. Thank you Mercedes Benz for finally making this vehicle look like a serious vehicle..and not a child's toy. =)

I prefer the old look.
Better still if they have something like the old Roadster.

I am sorry for you have to recommended ForFour which could be much better. I am currently writing review of new ForFour and comparing it to older ForFour model. 10 years difference and only thing they managed to do right is the wheel and RWD. I don't dislike Smart Company ideas but new ForFour wasn't able to improve or at least keep the best features. I don't know about your average height but as 179 cm (5 feet, 10,5 inches) I cannot sit at back seats (I have to tilt my back and head, also bent my feet a lot). Driver position is not so comfortable either with clutch foot resting place being not far enough so you have to again bent your leg to uncomfortable position. 1st Gen ForFour doesn't have these problems. So what did they improve? The weel, added bunch of safety features as option and RWD. Everything else is same or worse Good review but "I am tall" doesn't tell that much. Good review but sadly new ForFour was a wet rug thrown at old ForFour owners face

But indeed as you also say we were not too happy with the car altogether, so indeed we cannot actually recommend either of these cars. I owned an old Smart forfour and it was surely the better car than the new one...

..and it's a renault! fake smart-mercedes! what a shame! i wait for the diesel version. my 450 2002 smart for two cdi,... runs now 210.000 kms with the same engine,...only oil and oil filter changed! it's an amazing engine! i would only change it for the electric one 2016 if the battery range would be up to 200 kms.... other wise i'ts a lemon!
