Been driving my 2016 5-speed for 3 years. It is still the only car I have ever loved. It is actually fun to drive. It performs way better than anyone would suspect. It is quite quick! I am sad they got rid of the gas version, the electric is totally impractical for my driving and inavailabilty of charging opportunities /length of time. I would buy another gas one in a heartbeat!
One of the greatest benefits of having a smart fortwo is how much extra room it leaves in my 2-car garage for other things. Those include a Soloflex, a Teeter inversion table, a flat workout bench, a Total Gym, an enclosed library, cabinets and benches all around, a t.v., 3 bikes, free weights, shoe rack, and much more. All I did was kick out our other vehicle and park the smart in there!
These comments remind me of the children who repeat other people's opinions as their own, folks who are so entrapped in keeping to what they believe 'normality', what a prison they write themselves. Some four years later, perhaps they have escaped.
+Cole Phelps All the North American V8 cars are, intrinsically, French, inasmuch as the V8 was a French invention. So the Smart car is just following a well worn path.
Notice Roman you say it looks cartoonish right as the ice cream truck goes by with a cartoonish version of the Entertainer going. I love it. Almost like a planned thing. So I guess I love it when a plan comes together.
New reply on "I have a 2015 Smart car model. Does this procedure also apply for the 2015! Thanks for the tip on the NAPA battery shut off part #." Thanks. So as I understand, the process in my owners manual for the 2015 is correct? I don't have to do the shifting procedure as demonstrated in your video. Thanks again for your patience and help.
I drive a 2009 Smart Car since New. It's now 2024 , October. I have 56K miles. Original with air conditioning. My Smart is apart of myself. I would not trade or sell. I've had this car since new. 15 years of ownership. 🚗
My uncle bought a 2017 smart fortwo for me, i always go out after school around the compound, its one of the best gifts i received. I made my fathers dream of learning how to drive at just 14! Now i have almost 3km.
wow... it looks like you can actually service the spark plugs and injectors without removing the engine... and I like the new front... a very "smart" idea indeed... xD no, really, it looks a lot better with a more normal-ish looking front section... and something I notice is that it seems the eye level when driving it is actually at the same-ish level of a regular car... so you would feel just as tiny as driving a corolla for example... right? cheers!
Transmission. "The people who got used to the last one liked it". Where are these people? I've never met anyone who thought the old one was any good. Some think it's just about bearable but most think it's one of the worst gearboxes to be inflicted on a car in recent years. Try pulling out onto a busy roundabout with one if you want to know what real fear is.
In 1984 my wife and I bought a brand new Dodge Colt, 4-door w/hatchback. It had a 1.4 liter engine with a single, 1-bbl carburetor. With my wife, 2 kids and myself on board with luggage for four we got 44 miles per gallon on a 325 mile trip to Disneyland. We drove on a straight, flat Interstate at about 60-65 mph in 5th gear. That little Dodge got 40 mpg or more for the 6 years we owned it. It was geared "right" and actually had plenty of power. How come even these tiny "Smart" cars and hybrids cannot match the mileage of a 1984 Dodge Colt with a 1.4 liter engine and an actual carburetor. I've been a car guy since the late 60's and I am baffled that mileage of our smallest cars has actually decreased in the last 30 years. I don't get it...
Which also means it could sell bad if 91/93 is far higher than regular (luckily, I have a Costco, so it would only be $2.99 in California vs. $3.41-$3.83 to the others).
+Charles Everett I own one and its a chick magnet I get a lot of tension in it and I put regular gas in it and it does not affect my performance at all
I just got rid of our 2005 diesel smart. Needed a new actuator, $780cdn, new egv another $800, etc. BTW, the evg replacement was about to be come an annual event. The car was a money pit. Almost as much of a money pit as our jeep. Yeah, fun to drive when it ran. Sold it for $1500cdn.
Those fuel economy numbers though LOL. Pretty awful if you ask me. I think if they gave it a bigger engine, say 2L, it would actually get better fuel economy numbers. The little 0.9L is just working a bit to hard to push that thing around.
10:44 Holy hell I'd hate to have to change any major components like an alternator or water pump in there. It looks like theres absolutely no room to maneuver.
Actually looks good now. I wish they made like a streched out, lower roof lined and maybe more powerful version even though it would kinda defeat the purpose.
Yeah but not to bad depending on the highway conditions. It's the tires you can hear like a ballon sound if you what i mean.. other than that smooth ride.
Local dealer got versa note for 13 k done know with the competition between the big car co you can get so much more for your money. I can't see anyone buying them . Overlook cruise , golf , carrolla, sentra, focus, soul, elantra, scions, mazda 3 , just can't see it.
say what u want but if u think about it, the Smart has the same amount of room as your pickup truck has n it. What makes a truck normal looking is the bed.. My 02 Ranger is equivelant ( inside ) to a smart car & a freakin gas hog! i'd sooo trade it n for a Smart!!!
He can talk about safety all he wants but this is NOT a safe car, it never could be based on physics. These mini-size cars are the least safe thing with doors on the road.
ricco kimbrough I honestly have no interest in a car that has a 0-60 time of a snail lol. I see why people like this car, but it just doesn't do any thing for me. The Smart brand doesn't really fit well in the States to be honest, its more of a European car.
+MrGovenator1 well on that note I can say globally United States will continue to make crappy American cars in the European and German industrial will exceed in sells so people in that nature will save more money because they have a more reliable car be my guest pick what you want you have to pay for it after all
ricco kimbrough German cars really aren't very reliable. And when they do break, they cost a fortune to fix. Even VW is quite expensive for repairs. And American cars are far from bad now. Ever since the bail outs, they realized no one wanted to buy their crap, so they have drastically improved their quality. They aren't quite as nice as their German counterparts, but they generally aren't as expensive either.
My problem with the smart is that it's too small to be getting only 38 MPG. My Sonic was much larger, around the same price point, had more HP and could get 40MPG highway.
I was at the dealer and I was not offered to let me test drive the car. I am not white nor I am bling blang. I did look at the engine and everything else and spend an hour loking at the car.
Smart car. The car to get if you are super conservative and have zero interest in Motorsports or performance. Not saying it's a bad thing there are plenty of people like that in this world. My wife is still picking out her Vehicles based on how cool the headlights look and she's 30 years old.
$18,970 is EXPENSIVE for a car this size. That can buy you a fully loaded Ford Fiesta, or a fully loaded Toyota Yaris. These cars have much better options, are bigger and more practical though small enough to fit in most parking spaces, and you don't look like a complete dork driving them. So why the heck would you buy this?
I don't get why people buy these. My car gets the same or better gas mileage, weighs 400 lbs. more, seats 5, and has an engine nearly twice as large as the smart's. And I got it used for $4,000 less- used from 2012, though. Everything the smart has is matched or exceeded by my car, except for the fact that It's twice as long (lol). I guess the length is the only thing people buy them for. Guess the car? Honda Civic
+MrKeyboardCommando No it doesn't... If there's an accident between this car and a real truck and you choose to be in the Smart over the truck you're too dumb to live anyway.

I like that you removed the engine cover. And I like that they offer the manual gear box.
For real, manual trans for life, makes you feel alive🤘
The smart car has always reminded me of a car a rich father would give to their pre teen kid for fun around their mansion

@@stephen300o6 lol after 4 years
@@stephen300o6 I bet you are also looking for a smart car
theyre so cheap tho
Still faster then a Prius
It's a decent little car-thing but you do run the risk of like 3 people just walking away with it lol
So technically it's the first "french car" being introduced back in North America after French automakers left it in 90's
That's true in a roundabout manner.
+Cole Phelps All the North American V8 cars are, intrinsically, French, inasmuch as the V8 was a French invention. So the Smart car is just following a well worn path.
+MrKeyboardCommando I know that a French sold it to Chrysler unfortunately
Cole Phelps It's just what happened, and, apparently, is still happening.

I love the fortwo just the best car in the city
These cars are a blast, and tremendous fun to drive. In the urban environment, there's nothing faster.

First of all, congratulations, Mr. Krabs.
Hello. I like money.
What inspired you to build a second Krusty Krab right next door to the original?
Money.
This car would be good in overcrowded cities like San Francisco
I have a smart car! Amazing car, fun to drive and surprisingly spacious on the inside!
Let's just be honest....a Smart Car is just a Street-legal roller skate!
But its swag
But it's cute tho
I loved my 2007 Smart, only thing I was missing was that third pedal. This would be perfect.
Without Nathan I guess we will not know how big the trunk is until you get to review one!
