If I may I would like to leave a little feedback for your engineers since this is one of the more recent videos and is on-topic for an issue I just experienced with your products and customer service representative.
Specifically, this pertains to the Model M53D, but to any of the models that utilize the same switch design, which according to my research seems to be all of the Zoeller products with integrated onboard switches.
While the switch housing is sealed, the switch itself is not and contains pressed wood components that are crucial to the working of the switch. A redesign using a plastic armature hold and watertight electrical connections would mean the removal of the need to seal and waterproof the switch housing. Further, the use of stainless and rust-resistant components would prevent the issue in the switch itself as would a generous coating of hydrophobic spray. The switch itself could also use some work on the contact points to prevent arcing and premature failure.
Eben though the switch housing is designed to be watertight, it is well known that when designing a part you first ask how it could break or fail.
Obviously, when it comes to a submersible system the first question is "what if it gets water in it", and if the answer is "it instantly dies", then you have a problem.
If the switch housing experiences water ingress the plastic switch itself has no water mitigation and uses components that are not compatible with water infiltration.
I called and tried to speak with a person today to explain this and you would have thought I was personally insulting him. He starts off immediately about how I am not getting free parts despite not asking for any. I had actually already started to order them from the site but went ahead and canceled that order, I won't give the Zoeller company another dime after that interaction.
He tried to tell me if water got into the switch housing the motor would burn out. And while this would be true if the switch failed to "on", which by the way would be a massive design flaw since the entirety of the engineering process should always "fail safely" and failing to an "on" condition that draws enough power to heat wires but not trip breakers creates a fire hazard condition, but no, my issue was the simple, plastic, made in Mexico switch that they tried to save some cash on. It failed in such a way that the motor would not turn on rendering it useless but in perfect working order, minus the ability of the switch to power it of course.
I suggested to the person who answered the phone that since he informed me his wife is a mechanical engineer and he comes from a family of them while justifying the issue and noting it is a known problem that they have no intention to fix but that once again I am not getting free parts, that perhaps he should ask their thoughts on using cardboard derivatives in an aquatic environment.
As I said to the other commentator on this video, your company makes excellent pumps, I bypassed the switch on mine and the pump fired up and ran like a champ! The decision to outsource the internal switch to a foreign company using questionable materials in order to eke out a few extra cents of profit per unit though is the failure point.
As such I am just going to fabricate a blanking cover for the switch housing, seal the inside with silicone, seal up the system, and use a remote water sensor to control the pump cycles. Frankly, this will almost certainly give me a much longer life as I can then also include a periodic cycle check function, lifetime cycle count, run time count, energy usage graphing, and detect higher than expected current draw to trigger an alarm to check for obstructions and prevent burn out or tripping the internal overload system. Much can be gained by hooking the pump up to my home automation system. Right now I have it on a smart switch and I am only counting lifetime cycles. I have had it since 2015 and it has only cycled 106 times. The fact that the switch failed with such massive corrosion in that short amount of time with so few cycles points to an almost comically obvious case of planned obsolescence.
I will also be contacting the corporate office to have a discussion about this as well as a discussion about technical support personnel being trained to actually listen to customers and maybe not immediately blaming the customer for every issue.
If you would like to reach out to me regarding this issue I have set up an email for you at zoeller at bestlittlestudio dot com.
Feel free to reach out, right now I am going to go see about 3D printing some parts and bulletproofing my M53D pump. I figure, given the design, I should be able to reliably get 20 years or more out of it.

@@matejovich Not a single peep. I even called back a couple of weeks ago, the guy I spoke to was unaware of any previous call despite literally being the same person, when I asked if his wife was still an engineer he got pissed off and accused me of being a stalker and threaten to have some of his friends kill me.
I also have recorded a video and will be making the plans to turn their pump into a lifetime use pump freely available to all.
They chose to treat me like crap when I was just trying to help them, so I have chosen to force their business into foreclosure.

Have you thought about making a few instructional DIY videos here on youtube? It would be definitely appreciated by folks like me. I bought an M98 a while back and now just realized they have a LN98 version that uses an electronic switch for a little more money but 2 additional years warranty because it is so much better plus additional seals.

I'm just getting ready to change this cheap ass switch again on my Zoeller sump pump. I'd think they would be embarrassed to place such a poor-quality switch on their pumps. They may be adequate for running load, but not for starting.

What is your answer to the switch housing filling with water making it not work? This has been a common problem with these pumps that seems like it will never be addressed.

@@ZoellerCompany Ok, water gets inside your switches, all of them, what have you changed to prevent that and why are you not willing to talk about that publicly? This is the weak link in your pumps and is what keeps me from buying them. We use these in a sump pump and actually depend on them working to avoid flooding our basement. Having a high quality float is of the utmost importance and is the number one failure. As a consumer I want to know if your doing anything about this or not? As of yet I don't see anything new. So far I've received nothing but canned corporate answers from you. Yes or no, are your float switches the same as they've always been and if not what are the changes made? Great intro video! I need help with my M137-D. Two years old and I had to replace the capacitor (no big deal), but after only two weeks the pump is throwing the breaker. I cannot find any obvious signs for failure, and am looking for specs on ohms, etc. to troubleshoot the capacitor etc. Also, the schematic is helpful, but actual pictures of the wiring would be VERY helpful. Anyone know of a good website with photos and troubleshooting values? Oh, the impeller spins easily, there were no signs of water in the pump, etc. Thanks!

"Fantastic source of information." Is it? you made a presentation for 40 minutes of video and did not talk about what it is- Weep Hole on the side of yours product. in my case, the hole rusted because the pump did not work for a year. the hole has been stuffed. But even this is not the problem, the problem is that the motor does not spin at a speed to raise the water to the required height. i checked the pump in october and it was working, now end of april the pump is no longer working
