Peggy, what a great video! I had received this plant as a cutting from a friend, and after many attempts at rooting, i was finally successful with a water prop, WITH it covered by a bag to create a tiny green house effect to up the humidity. I have it indoor, facing East morning sun. I am in 8 zone, my indoor humidity hangs around 50%. It has grown SO fast, and is one of my most favorite plants in my collection. There are very few videos and websites about the Ctenanthe Lubbersiana and I was so pleased to find your video. This plant doesn't get the spot light as some of the other prayer plants do. IMO, it is overlooked. Thank you for the great vid, and info, I have subscribed, :)
Thanks for sharing your propagation success story. I enjoy hearing methods and successes of other people. I've never water propagated and used a humidity bag. Genius! I will have to give that a try. Thanks again and enjoy your Ctenanthe!
The absolute best video on this plant ever. I bought this plant not knowing much about it and it’s doing beautifully It was pretty big when I bought it probably a 9in pot and I transplanted it in an 11in self watering pot and it gotten so big I have to move if from my side table to it’s own tall plant stand. I put it near a south facing window and I live in zone 5 so it’s definitely an indoor plant for me and I don’t see this plant much in my area, when I saw it at Lowe’s it was the only one so I thought I’d give it a try and it’s doing fantastic. Thanks for the propagation tips I’m sure I’ll need to propagate it next year.
I bought a good sized one at Trader Joes a few months ago. It has more than doubled in size! I keep it near a large south facing window. I live in the Northwest, so there is no question of moving it outside. Thanks for your video
Thanks Peggy. I did not know it was part of the Maranta family, and I sure didn't know how to care for it. I am in Colorado so no outdoor for me. Mine looks pretty good considering I was flying by the seat of my plants! As always, love seeing your yard and beautiful plants!
You are so welcome. It just goes to show that you have to go with what works for you. If your plant is happy and healthy, don't change a thing! Happy growing and thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. I just purchased my first one but it’s very tall (only one plant in the pot) so I was looking on how to propagate it to make it look more bushy and how to cate for it properly.
I always walk by this plant in the big box stores b/c it is in a pot too big for my preference. thanks for sharing this video b/c at least I know if I should find a piece on the floor, I know how to propagate it.
Aug 4th...Thank You So. Much ❤ Both.. I saw the 1sr Big on inside u were holding it. The Beautys Outside U took a healthy Cuttings With Lots of leaves.. Yes I am going to Check her for bugs. I could not find ...Neem oil. So I bought ... Insecticideal Soap. . I do hope it's good. Will have to buy some on ...e-bay.. I'm so Amazed at ur self taught Plant Knowledge .....❤❤❤
I love the moon glow/moon shine I am fortunate enough to have one. You have an awesome collection. I think the sansevieria family is so overlooked. Glad I’m not the only one who likes them. I’m still on the hunt for reasonably priced whale fin.
Hi Linda Sue! So nice to hear from you. I think most people only think of trifasciata when they hear sansevieria. Perhaps that is why they are so overlooked. Stay well and take care!
I had a Ctenanthe on my "10 Most Wanted" list. Ahhh, Not Now! It's gorgeous, huge, and I realize I don't have the real estate in my zone 8 home for it. But, thank you, Peggy, for this information.
A juvenile Ctenanthe grown indoors in a smaller pot would grow slower. Don't let the size of mine dissuade you. I'm pretty sure there's a homeless Ctenanthe out there with your name on it. 😀
I will absolutely be taking this plant with me. It's in a pot so I don't even have to dig. All of my potted plants will be making the trip. At least that's the plan for the moment. Thanks for watching.
I appreciate your video, I brought mine Lubbersiana at home depot 2.weels ago and I want to know if it should ne kept doors? I leave the lights on in the day because it is in the hall way
I don't know what your indoor environment is like, so that isn't a question I can answer. Consider the area it was growing in at HD and try to mimic the environment. I've seen these grown indoors successfully, but regular indoor light bulbs may not be able to produce enough light. Best of luck to you!
Peggy great video. Can you share what you used for the potting mix, it looked homemade and a well draining mix, and also what kind of pest control you used on it please? Love your videos💜

Thanks Suzette. I can't really take any of the credit since it's just out there doing its thing. Everyone loves the lizards. They freak me out and I really don't like them. Sometimes the even get in the house. You can have them! 🌱💚🌿🌴🌞
@@PeggysPlants Hahahahah I figured you would say you were scared of them. Most people are. I just think they are super cute. Although I would NOT want one to jump on me😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can you tell me if I can trust in the hydromether? I have my Lubersianna inside my house and I water every 7 to 10 days even though the hydromether reads 10. But I water anyway because seens to me too many days. On the other hand I'm afraidof root rot. Also since I bought it, it appeared with brownish sports in some leaves and the plant is inside the house under a growing light. So... what can cause this brown spots? I just recently repoted because as I mentioned I was afraid of roo rot. What do you recomend for a water schedule? Excuse me for so many questions. Thank you
Hello Mari, sorry to hear you are having problems with your Ctenanthe. I normally just use my moisture meter to see where the moisture is in the soil - near the top, middle or bottom. I can't really tell you when your plant should be watered because that is so dependent on your humidity, type of soil, temperature of your home, etc. Since these plants like indirect light, it is possible that it is getting too much light from your grow light. Again, it's hard for me to say since I don't know your setup. Also keep in mind that these plants like to stay somewhat moist but not wet. I hope this information helps.
Hi Peggy !!! I know back awhile ago you said u would have a video on ....My Beautiful ....Ctenathe Golden Moasic.... Lowes called her. I just went crazy over her everything about her.. Then to see ur huge one inside let alone ur ones out side...Peggy I Swear I think I am drooling...😁... You are so Wonderful with Plants Honey.... Did U go to College for Plants & Biology ?????. Anyway mine did awesome for months....new babies. Then this long stem that kept getting more & more leaves. Now its dieing. ...not the 2 long stems but near all the rest... I've been asking everywhere.....Can I propergate in water....& finally You said yes I can.. I do so much better in water. So I'm going to give her a shot. Thank You so Much Peggy. I hope You are both safe from...the Covit 19 & The hurricane... Take Care ❤
I finally got around to getting this video done Kathleen. Sorry it took so long. No, I didn't go to school for plants. That's interesting that it was doing fine and then decided to be a diva. Did you move it? Is it possible it has pests? Anyway, best of luck with it. I would take a few cuttings and do water, moss and soil propagation. I just like to increase my odds if it looks like I'm losing a plant. Stay well!
I tried this method, but the leaves of the cutting started curling almost immediately. And they don't seem to be uncurling and it's been two days. I hope you can give me some advice, I really don't want the cuttings to die.
That has happened to me as well. I've even had to cut the leaves in half before. Eventually, the cuttings have rooted for me every time, with one exception, in which the cutting died. Keep in mind, there's never a 100% guarantee with propagations. I've also had good results putting the cutting directly in soil, but the leaves curled with that method, also. Best of luck!
@@PeggysPlants I've put them directly in soil too. Should I transfer them to water first? I've put them in a curverbox now in a warm spot, for optimal humidity. I really hope they make it. Thank you so much for your reply and insight. You're video's are amazing!
