  • I always see and hear Infiniti G35's on the road, but I've never really given them a second thought (because the more hardcore Nissan 350Z exists) - until now. Calvin's 2006 G35 coupe has been tuned and modified for occasional track use while retaining daily drivability. Let's find out if it's any good in the canyons!

    Really love my G35 even as an automatic for a daily driver, never let's me down. Being the non Rev up engine I don't have the oil consumption issue either. Drive the piss out of the car and it takes it last two and a half years. Next daily I want is a 370Z nismo

      Riggs Motorsports the rev up oil consumption issue is a myth, yes it burns oil a little more than the non rev up but nothing major

    • @RiggsMotorsports
      @RiggsMotorsports 6 років тому

      Talking to tuners and doing extensive research they do burn more oil. If you have research that shows otherwise then feel free to provide it

      Riggs Motorsports where did I say it didn’t burn oil? I said it does just not so much that it’s a major issue. I own a rev up myself I’d know...

    Recently rebuild an 03 G35 Sedan version got very lucky it was a Manual one too off Copart restored her back to replaced the tires, tuned her up and she’s up and running. And yes many of us that own these VQ dread the oil consumption issue but the powerband of this motor is too addicting.
    Coupe’s are slightly heavier than Sedan because of additional reinforcement on the suspension. I feel the G35 early Gen will slowly get noticed by the car guys.

    My 350z is almost the same build lol. I have the brembo calipers and with stainless steel lines and swaybars and a plenum spacer and an even lighter flywheel. He has the wheels I want though. Clean car.

    • @track_g35
      @track_g35 6 років тому

      Emmanuel you should try and find the wheels from a sedan with the sport package. They are 18 instead of 19, they are one of the lightest wheels you can get for a 350z without spending 2k

    • @Soyblackpower
      @Soyblackpower 6 років тому +1

      Anthony Guarnieri haha believe it or not I actually found those 18s you are talking about. I sold them though because the offset for the g35 sedan is like +45 whereas the Z and g35 coupe is like +32 and I didn't want to run spacers. I actually found the 19s and thats what I'm running now.

    These definitely are comparable to bmw 330/335. My dad bought a 330ci but was mainly looking at one of these as an alternative because of how comparable the performance is seemed to be. Though the bmw proved to be more practical and he knows how to do a good amount of mechanical work himself so it was more appealing.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  6 років тому +3

      Having reviewed the E46 330Ci ZHP, I'll say the ZHP is the more nimble and better handling car but the tuned G35 feels a lot quicker on straights.

    • @iheartgs400
      @iheartgs400 6 років тому +4

      sdlausen there out there its because of how cheaply you can still get these cars at the moment eventually people will realize the overall balance of DD/handling and power the V35 FM platform. Values will eventually hold for clean non molested ones with MT for both variations and NISMO 350/370z.

      Find a cheap coupe with a rebuildt title. I think there's alot more rebuildt (crashed amd repaired) coupes than riced out. If you want to find non modified G35's go with a sedan. All g35 coupe or sedan and 350z vq35de accelerate similar. And most are stock down to the fat oem tires. I personally don't like the G35 oem stance. The wheel gap is 4x4 while bmw's wheel gap is more sporty. So if you get a g35 sedan, a low profile tires and bigger wheels(18"-19") is a must. The coupe stance is fine (including its oem wheels) but half an inch to an inch lower won't hurt and would look better

    • @jmoe2060

    You should review the The 135i or 335i. They are absolute monsters compared to these Nissans. I owned a 135i with intake, intercooler and tune and that’s easily over 400hp and maybe 450 torque. Much faster than the V8 M3 let alone these Nissans. I had a G35 before that and my wife has an EX35 which is basically a G35 hatchback. I love the Nissan V6. It’s fun to wind it out and it sounds great. The N54 basically dies at 5000 rpm. There’s not much joy in changing gears because there’s power everywhere. Need to pass on the highway? Don’t even bother downshifting. I miss mine some but it was hard to find places to really put the power down.
    Another interesting BMW is the E90 335D. 425 torque stock. It’s a niche car but it has a following and tuners. Pulls like a big displacement V8.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  6 років тому

      Yep I'm itching to review tuned a 135i/335i with the N54. I've driven stock examples and they were quick but kind of bland. A manual 335D sounds like the perfect daily driver for mpg + torque!

      Had an S2000 and DD'd it for 6 years and now have an 370z. As a fun track car/weekend toy the S2000 is hands down the better car, sharp handling, fun engine, top down? and is just a sexy car. Now as a mostly street driven car with a track day or two the 370z is the better choice, better power band, more space and is just a better cockpit to be in everyday or for long periods of time. I also enjoy modifying the 370z more than my S2k just because the S2k was pretty much maxed out from factory the Z goes a longgg way with mods. Both very fun cars and great platforms to start from I dont think you can go wrong with either one IMO.
