TX toothpick slip-joints are great. I use mine for travel (in check-on baggage). I tend to buy cheap ones, because I often loose these little small blades. Interesting to see the CRTK 6061 model. Great review, Ty.
Cool knives, I need to get around to getting a crkt just starting my collection. I have two kershaws right now, a skyline and a dlc coated leek. Do you think I should get a tenacious, or something else first?
Jeff, This video made me dig through my box o' knives. I have a well-used Bowen R1306B, not sure where I got it, which from googling can be worth upwards of $150 NIB. Is that right? What is the "Bowen Story", looks like they just make belt-buckle knives now.
I have the full set of CRKT slipjoints including both Toothpicks, Trapper, mini Trapper, Congress, split-spring Whittler, and Stockman. The mini Trapper is my favorite followed by the 6061 Toothpick...great slipjoints. I do wish CRKT didn't give up on making them. By now they could have rivaled Case and GEC. Thanks Jeff.
that passes my traditional knife standards... but the price, wow! i would pay double the money for a case, due to supporting the US however. very nice to see excellent quality control
People are crazy about the Chinese issue... I agree that buying american is good, however there are so many good knifes that come out of JAPAN (Cold Steel, etc), and China! (almost everyone)... the Chinese are making great knives these days... including brands like Enlan and Sanrenmu. Thanks for another great video... good quality is good quality
The "hard use" folder trend really does amuse me. Our grandfathers put more legitimate hard use on their old slipjoints in one year than most will put on our Superdupersteel Crazylock 4000 in our lifetime.
This is a great review. Thanks. I wanted to add that the reason for the blunted point is that they polish the Case blades (I believe all Case blades, but am not sure) by tumbling them in some walnut shells or something. They do this after grinding, so the tips are blunted when sent to the polishing and edging. This surprises me because it is a real deal breaker for me, and I would bet for many. I hate to say this, but Case is toast. They have too much ridiculously less expensive competition, mainly from China. They have to produce a better product or go the way of the audio, photography, videography, etc. industries that once flourished in America. Sad to see. Thanks again for the great vid!
I grew up using slip joints, they work just fine for most jobs. But I can see why people consider the lock an advantage, but I agree, the advantage is exaggerated.
JEFF! The reason that knife has a some what blunted tip is so if youre skinning an animal, you don't accidently poke into something you don't want to poke ( ex. stomach, bladder, other bad smelling things)
I think it would be more appropriate to compare the Chinese made buck toothpick to the Case (the buck is about $13). Also, how would a knife develop blade play after cutting some paper and a little belt?
I love your views on the American vs. Foreign issue, I feel the same way. It's a Global Economy now days. Rough Rider Knives are awesome, if you haven't tried them, you should.
Awesome vid Jeff. Slip joint knives are way underated. My two current edc are an old timer classic and a SVORD peasant knife, neither one of em have locks....technically. But both are excellent blades
jeff, just a thought but maybe use the CRKT knife and the W.R Case and sons knife over a period of time and see which edge holds up better... That is where your extra 20 something dollars are spent on case knives :)
Jeff get a Japanese Higonokami knife, great traditional pocket knife, real good quality blade and perfect for every day use, would love to see you do a review of one.
A thing to keep in mind Jeff, you are comparing the Case as if it only had the one blade but it has another so you should figure that into your price comparisons.
Yo.. C.Lover Do you know who makes the knife...that was used in TrueGrit... that the girl used to cut down the hanging man? It's a killer bowie... If you know off hand. ;-) Good vid.
The only CRKT I have is the "Guppie" and "The Eat'n Tool" I love it! I seen CRKT at Shot show and got to handle there entire line of blades and tools. All nice stuff I think. Thanks for the vid Jeff.
@cutlerylover I really like the CRKT and i want one to carry, just another knife so i don't have to pull out a big knife for a small job could you put up a link to a sight where i could check the prices. and keep making videos i watch and love everything you make. thank you.
I have a Case knife I have hard used that my Sunday school teacher gave me on Easter over forty years ago that is still in great shape. I like CRKT at the price point and would probably buy it and give it to my son to thrash and lose but, I do not think CRKT will last like a Case with proper use they will last a lifetime.
What companies make knives in other countries that have good quality control? I know my RAT 1 is made in Taiwan and it's not some cheapo but what other companies have a good quality control from their foreign factories.
You spoke on collectability. I'm always buying knives and then not using them, thinking maybe one day they will be worth something for some reason. I do this with all kinds of knives and I know I'm crazy, I know they wont be worth anything for most of them (as an example even the Ozark trails from wm I try and keep in good condition bc my logic is its worth more than you pay performance and quality wise, and if it goes out of production it will be worth more bc of this) and even knowing that's wrong almost for a fact. Also did this with the Kershaw Christmas 2 pack, and the buck collector tins that use 420j2. Can someone put something through my head to stop this lol. Maybe the bucks will be worth something with the tins slightly more than I paid. Probably not bc of the steel being complete crap but maybe. But I take it to far I feel. The knives I use are certain knives like a mossy oak knife, a beat up Ozark trail, and a Kershaw oso sweet
Jeff, the CRKT obviously failed the cut test in regards to edge retention yet you still gave it a glowing review. I think it sucks, but you just don't want to admit it.
This video reminded me of when my brother got a slip joint for becoming a boyscout. Fond memories. I didn't get one, I wasn't allowed to have one until I was over 18. =__=
I find the term tactical folder laughable, if you are using a 3 inch folding blade tactically then your prolly going to be killed. If you find yourself in a spot where you have to use a folding blade your in a bad spot, and in that case any folder will work lol.
no they are very good knives. the tactical community gives them a bad wrap. my father, both uncles, and grandpa always carry slip joints and they are blue collar working guys. they never have any problems. i think you'd be surprised at how many people carry a traditional folder. I carry one myself and it works fine. you should check them out
Mineral oil, I believe is a good food safe, rust reducing oil. Better than using vegetable or olive, as those go rancid after a while, and while not toxic, will make your food taste horrible.
yeah, there are alot of guys who want a fixed blade with one inch thick blade just so they can open a UPS box. For a good 90 years or so, people carried slipjoints without any problems. There's alot of bullcrap in the knife industry these days
I have to admit that I am a firm believer in the American made mantra. It has that south-side Detroit boxer toughness and mystique to it. I just believe in the quality! Eventhough, it may be a little more rustic and worn I still prescribe to its capability what ever the product. It's like the 350 engine it just works for me... So, while the other knife may have proven superior in "some" ways I believe in the long-haul the Case will prove itself better. Call it faith I guess.
i'll tell you what the small toothpick's like that are good for skinning small game like rabbit and squirrel you really dont want a 4" blade for that work
I dont like slip joints a have a habbit of putting pressur on the back of the blade when cutting my favrote type of knife is eathe a fixed blade or a lockback
Jeff, I watch alot of your video and I like then them and I am not going to pretend that I do not have a foreign produced knife. That being said I draw the line when it comes to traditional handled slip joints. I feel they are an American tradition that are to be passed down to your kids and grand-kids. You could of bought an American made blade for the price of that CRKT. I'm sorry but this blade is junk IMO
The knife may be MADE in china but the materials, company and quality control is probably done in the USA. I'm from England so don't really care. But I hate people who say china only makes shit, CRKT is a big company and use china ONLY for there cheap labour making knives. I really want one of these.
Oh good, because he was talking about VW I thought he meant citroën when he said lemon. Would have been funny though if americans called citoëns lemons.
I keep gravitating to your reviews. Another good one. Subscribing.
Back when people weren't deathly afraid of knives.
DAMN, the amount of videos you pump out still amazes me.
TX toothpick slip-joints are great. I use mine for travel (in check-on baggage). I tend to buy cheap ones, because I often loose these little small blades. Interesting to see the CRTK 6061 model. Great review, Ty.
I use my Texas toothpick as an actual toothpick at times, works great
Cool knives, I need to get around to getting a crkt just starting my collection. I have two kershaws right now, a skyline and a dlc coated leek. Do you think I should get a tenacious, or something else first?
I have been carrying a swiss army knife for 2 years. It doesn't lock and i have never had problems with it.
Jeff,
This video made me dig through my box o' knives. I have a well-used Bowen R1306B, not sure where I got it, which from googling can be worth upwards of $150 NIB.
Is that right? What is the "Bowen Story", looks like they just make belt-buckle knives now.
dude love the videos, your definitely the best reviewer i've seen, keep it up
I have the full set of CRKT slipjoints including both Toothpicks, Trapper, mini Trapper, Congress, split-spring Whittler, and Stockman.
It really doesn't matter where something is made in terms of quality as long as the correct controls are in place to monitor these things properly
Lol I'm 7 years late but you might like the rough rider copper toothpick. These are quickly becoming one of my favorite designs.
Tenacious or Ontario RAT 1 folder is a must for every new collector IMO
HvinnyTheViking ten is the better ov the2🔪🤨
I grew up using slip joints, they work just fine for most jobs. But I can see why people consider the lock an advantage, but I agree, the advantage is exaggerated.
“In a realistic world of 2012” Oh how the time flies
I open the mail with a .45 Auto.
Another good quality knife made in China. Is the cost of doing business in the USA these days a huge factor in these high Made in the USA prices?
Texas toothpicks are so awesome! This review kinda shows that you should get both!!! One to hold as a safe queen and one to use!
A very fair and unbiased comparison!
how come you didnt use the mini texas toothpick for a better comparison?
Wow, thought it was a Case at first. Great vids Jeff, keep it up!
JEFF! The reason that knife has a some what blunted tip is so if youre skinning an animal, you don't accidently poke into something you don't want to poke ( ex. stomach, bladder, other bad smelling things)
In regards to the tension of the blades; if the Case does close on your fingers, it won't spring closed as hard on your flesh as the CRKT.
I think it would be more appropriate to compare the Chinese made buck toothpick to the Case (the buck is about $13). Also, how would a knife develop blade play after cutting some paper and a little belt?
Congrats on the new dining room table! Hope we see a review soon!
i don't care where it's made if it's a good product i will buy it.
I love your views on the American vs. Foreign issue, I feel the same way. It's a Global Economy now days. Rough Rider Knives are awesome, if you haven't tried them, you should.
Wonder what type of carbon steel that is. Didnt fair to well for just cutting through slim cardboard like that.
Awesome vid Jeff. Slip joint knives are way underated. My two current edc are an old timer classic and a SVORD peasant knife, neither one of em have locks....technically. But both are excellent blades
what do you think of buck slip joints
jeff, just a thought but maybe use the CRKT knife and the W.R Case and sons knife over a period of time and see which edge holds up better... That is where your extra 20 something dollars are spent on case knives :)
Have you ever reviewed a straight edge razor? If not that would be great if so plz send me a link
I was going to bed, but then I took a knife review to the sleep.
Yo.. C.Lover Do you know who makes the knife...that was used in TrueGrit... that the girl used to cut down the hanging man? It's a killer bowie... If you know off hand. ;-) Good vid.
I like stockmans they have such a good perpose and I love the moose pattern
To the Case's defense I think the spring tention might have gotten a little bit less... that's assuming that case is used.
The only CRKT I have is the "Guppie" and "The Eat'n Tool" I love it! I seen CRKT at Shot show and got to handle there entire line of blades and tools. All nice stuff I think. Thanks for the vid Jeff.
Chinese factories build things to the exact specs of who ordered it. if its ordered properly then you get a quality product.
@cutlerylover I really like the CRKT and i want one to carry, just another knife so i don't have to pull out a big knife for a small job could you put up a link to a sight where i could check the prices.
and keep making videos i watch and love everything you make. thank you.
Hey Jeff could you do a vid on the possible uses on the toothpicks thanks
Can you review the CRKT Pazoda?
Nice review, Jeff. Yeah, quality is quality. If its good, I'll buy it.
I have a Case knife I have hard used that my Sunday school teacher gave me on Easter over forty years ago that is still in great shape. I like CRKT at the price point and would probably buy it and give it to my son to thrash and lose but, I do not think CRKT will last like a Case with proper use they will last a lifetime.

when i heard "i'm gonna cut a belt i don't use, uhh it's too big" i kinda got that proud feeling
what does he mean by "you might get a lemon some time".
i have one and like it. they are good quality
Awesome knife
Over built is silly but still fun, I have to say though the most usefull knife I've used is a slip joint
This video reminded me of when my brother got a slip joint for becoming a boyscout. Fond memories. I didn't get one, I wasn't allowed to have one until I was over 18. =__=
I carry a Texas Toothpick along side my cold steel tilite. No need whipping out my huge stilletto stlye knife to clean out the finger nails
I find the term tactical folder laughable, if you are using a 3 inch folding blade tactically then your prolly going to be killed. If you find yourself in a spot where you have to use a folding blade your in a bad spot, and in that case any folder will work lol.
can you make a knife reveiew for the CRKT lake 111Z2
i carry Victorinox Pioneer Solo.. one blade.. slipjoint.. does everything i need it to do.
Slipjoints
no they are very good knives. the tactical community gives them a bad wrap. my father, both uncles, and grandpa always carry slip joints and they are blue collar working guys. they never have any problems. i think you'd be surprised at how many people carry a traditional folder. Better than using vegetable or olive, as those go rancid after a while, and while not toxic, will make your food taste horrible.
That you might happen to get one that isn't quite perfect or has some sort of defect.
I'd love to get my hands on a classy little toothpick like that, its pretty much one of the only things i can carry here in the UK anyway :L
That belt looked so cool, it pained me to watch you cut it : (
The background is much better than this old grandma-courtain or footmat or what ever it was. ;)
yeah, there are alot of guys who want a fixed blade with one inch thick blade just so they can open a UPS box. For a good 90 years or so, people carried slipjoints without any problems. There's alot of bullcrap in the knife industry these days
My OCD is driving me nuts watching this... you keep showing the knife with the shield upside down :P

I REALLY LOVE YOU MAN!
The case knife has a far better fit and finish.
this is off topic... i know you have contacts that have a benchmade 42 for sell price range 300-400 please help me out..
For all the people complaining about his reviewing and his rants in his videos, don't like it don't watch
Nice
ME TOO I HAVE SCHOOL IN THE MORNING
i'll tell you what the small toothpick's like that are good for skinning small game like rabbit and squirrel you really dont want a 4" blade for that work
i like it :P
good review
I could not agree more
CRKT shenanigan or the CRKT nirk folder
This is the only CRKT knife I have ever bought.
love you jeff
It means you can get a knife with a defect.
i have the same belt! lol and relized thats a good source og cordage in a selfe reliance situation! :D
I dont like slip joints a have a habbit of putting pressur on the back of the blade when cutting my favrote type of knife is eathe a fixed blade or a lockback
Japanese made knives are actually high quality.
