The diaphragm exercise is great also because it's practically the myxolydian mode played melodically

Hi Will, I like how you recently made videos that people not often think of when starting to play the harmonica but that are just as important as any other lesson(s).
I'm watching all your tutorials and they help a lot, thanks.

Thank you Will, I am learning a lot from your video's. I just picked up the harmonica I have been an artist my whole life and just wish I had started this when I was younger. I am starting to see sounds and hear colors, in a whole new way. You have the best how to videos yet. You really give me something to work on, I luv it!!!

For that train, Annie Raines uses “takada ha”, then “gukka ha”. For me, an intermediate player, I like it

Great instruction, Will. If you want to improve the look of your videos. position the camera you're using at basically eye level and shoot it in natural light, ambient lighting.
I am a photographer/videographer and a fan of yours, so I thought I would offer you this bit of advice. You'll be amazed how much better your UA-cam video clips look.

That last exercise with -4 -3 4 -4 | 5 4 -4 5... is awesome! A Russian bluesman Boris Plotnikov calls stuff like this 'rudiments'. A couple more ideas on those:
    -4 -5 5 | -5 -6 6 | -6 -7 7...
    -4 -5 5 4 | -5 -6 6 5 | -6 -7 7 6...
    1 2 3 4 -4 -3 -2 | 2 3 4 5 -5 -4 -3 | 3 4 5 6 -6 -5 -4...

What harmonica are you using ? Coulda said it before starting to play, just sayin'. Would've taken fewer times ( less time )than me writin' this whole thing with one hand

Hi will, loving these q and a videos. They are helping my playing a lot as I am sure they are for others as well. I would like to hear your views on tongue blocking. I tend to block with my tongue in a "u" shape, this is a habit I find hard to break for a couple of reasons- I lose tone and accuracy as soon as I try to block to the side. Can you see any reason why I should side block instead of sticking to the technique I am used to? There are a few vids about tongue blocking, none mention the method I use. Am I worrying too much about this or should I strive to get a "bit on the side"? Keep up the great work.

Thanks Michael, glad you like the videos. I already made a video about tongue blocking ua-cam.com/video/xdS_nzB6Jo0/v-deo.html Personally I don't tongue block apart from playing octaves. Do whatever works best for you, if you are happy with the sound you are getting it really doesn't matter.
