Awesome video, Jonny! I can definitely vouch for the Mk6/6.5 Ford Fiesta, I have a 2006 Style Climate (1.25L petrol) - which doesn't include front foglights, but who really uses them a lot of the time? I bought it as my first car just after I turned 21 last year; bought it at sub-30k miles and for £1500, sub-£700 a year on insurance with a black box though I now pay ~£450 without one. Never really had problems with my Fiesta, just a few annoyances. Gearing is a bit off; sometimes the gearbox doesn't fully go into 1st but this happens a lot more often with reverse for some reason, sometimes the wheels clunk up a bit if you accelerate too quickly in 1st too so a lot of the time I use 2nd for even slow roads/traffic. The radio is also a bit of a pain; as a lot of base models don't include an AUX cord with the 6000CD head unit, I use a bluetooth FM transmitter I bought on Amazon but I would like to buy the Sony head unit seen in a lot of Focus' and Mondeos from the same period the Mk6 Fiesta was made in.
In here we have quite a lot of Peugeot 207s mostly with the 1.6 120bhp BMW engine. Never driven one but I have been driven other Peugeots with the same engine and they are quite fun to drive. The automatic gearbox is lacking a bit, only 4 gears and there are noticeable knocks between 2nd to 3rd. With that said I think its really worth checking these cars out and if not driven too hard they can be fairly reliable. My first car was a Peugeot 206 Plus and except from a horn failure and a rear fog light that never worked, I don't remember any problems I had with the car. Had a suspension failure once but other than that it was quite reliable for what it was, definitely as a first car. I had quite long drives with the car as well, definitely a lot of engine noise and road noise but it was really comfortable to drive.

Having fewer cars is better generally, but for this kind of video I think the longer list works. It also leaves room for more detail on these cars in future videos. For example, 5 cars that will cost you under X amount within a year. Could pick 5 of these and work out costs including fuel, tax, insurance, depreciation, servicing and average repairs (or warranty quotes), just a thought ☺ Also the Jazz is the Green Goblin of Cars with JB, except it's actually a brilliant car for anyone boring (which is most people let's be honest).

My mate has a mk6 fiesta, he paid £300 for it, and his insurance is going to be £1400. Kinda crazy to think a cheaper old car is more expensive than a new car to insure
It could be a lot to do with where he lives and where he parks it overnight etc. I have a clio rs200 and I'm looking to swap it out for something cheaper but because I recently moved house to a bit of a worse area all the insurance quotes I'm getting are ridiculous! Like £50 a month more than I'm paying now. And that's for a standard VW golf, compared to a 200bhp hot hatch..
@@MrCCFCfan neither of us can drive yet, both can start very soon so that’s why we’ve got the cars. I don't know if you're biased but I've never seen you once mention the vw lupo (at least from the videos I've seen), I just wanna know why. It's basically a smaller polo with better interior.

Ratings for these cars and reasons: Fiat Punto: Good. Its a pretty decent little car! Chevy Matiz: Its really shit. Go get the Hyundai version its so much better and much more reliable. Audi A2: Its good but you wont be very popular: Yeah dont drive it or u will probably lose all ur friends.... Ford Fiesta: GREAT! Its reliable, cheap, and its a FORD so its gotta be good! It was my dads first car too back in the 90s (although the mk2 model not the mk5 shown there) Seat Ibiza:Good. Its a good little car and it has a german engine which cannot go wrong. It is also quite fizzy and fun and its also very popular with boyracers. So if you want a car to race people with, get this! (boyracers do tend to get the later models if im honest) Mini one hatch: Good. Again not much to say like on the punto, its decent and it shows that you are truly British I guess. Vauxhall Corsa: Fizzy! A very popular car for the younger driver. It is fizzy, peppey and FUN! Also good for the boyracer. Peugeot 207: Heap of garbage: Although a pretty good starter car, it is a peugeout and ive seen other models they made with terrible turning circles and rubbish reliablity. The urning circle might be better (idk) but because its french, reliability aint great. Suzuki Swift: Reliablity9000: Its a good little hatchback and is Japenese so its very reliable. Mazda 2: TheotherReliablity900: Again another Japenese Motor so its very reliable. Pretty quick thought although I havent seen many boyracers in them. Honda Jazz: Great for families: Japenese so good and reliable, also very spacious inside and very easy to operate with its very understandable controls. VW POLO: Underpowered but reliable: Its German so it is GREAT for reliablility. However, the polo is also quite underpowered with 1.0-1.2 models. You should be okay for power with a 1.4 model though (If you can afford them that is) Kia picanto: Good: Yeah its good I guess Dont really have much to say about it. QQuite Reliable I assume. All I know is that later models are quite underpowered ish. Toyota Yaris: The BEST of the BEST: ITS LIKE THE BEST JAPENESE HATCHBACK YOU CAN BUY! IT MAY BE UNDERPOWERED BUT ITS THE MOST RELIABLE THING EVER BASICALLY Renault Clio:The WORST of The WORST: Again its french so reliability is pretty shitty. Skoda Fabia:Decent: Out of the Czech Republic, Its very basic but also reliable and decent. Nissan Micra: small: If you have a family, dont get it is too small for that. It is a decent first car though because its still very reliable. Citroen C2: Oh here we go, another shit french car, Also Richard Hammond HATES IT so if you see him and you are driving it, RUN. Peugeot 107: Thought it was bad, till I figured Toyota engine. Hyundai i10: Good but underpowered: Realiable but a bit underpowered.

Love the list tho I was torn between the skoda fabia and the suzuki swift too, but ultimately went for the note for the alloys, sat nav, full electric windows and tinted windows that come stock. I dont have to worry about it getting stolen and everyone i see driving one is old...so the insurance for it is dirt cheap lol

It does seem like a great first car, although the engine is a Peugeot engine, which BMW also used
@@onelyone6976 Still, I think the fact that BMW has trust in a company like Peugeot definitely says something
@@royliber3824 yep, that does show that Peugeot is a lot better than what the reputation says. The same goes for Renault, If Mercedes is confident to partner with Renault for engines and codevelop the Smart cars and Twingo Renault products can’t be as bad as people say
@@onelyone6976 Exactly what I thought. I know the 1.5 dCI Renault engine is used in numerous Mercedes cars... Heck... Toyota themselves work with Peugeot. The new Proace City is basically a Berlingo. I hope all of the bad references the French companies got will disappear
I’m currently driving a mini 1.6 and highly recommend if you want a great driver experience for a first time driver sounds good handles well decent interior, not the best reliability wise water pump and clutch issues I’ve had but it’s a 22 year old car with 120000 miles 😂
I know I am 20 when I did this quote but I got a 330 quote on a 1.5 CRDI Kia Rio MK2.you can even get upto 2011 versions. Cheap maybe not much but cheap on insurance yes and good power for first car and great milage. I don't ever worry about pulling out anywhere.
I have a 2006 vauxhall corsa that I'm currently learning to drive in, its nippy and very nice to drive :)
Very nice!
How are you getting insurance quotes without a blackbox for only an additional 1-200?
The cheapest I can find on my 1.2 polo E 9n3 is 850 with a blackbox and 2.2k without a blackbox
Fiat punto 1.4 petrol turbo cheap insurance and so much fun to drive Also in the light grey with the sunroof I really enjoyed mine also I had no problems with it
Am I reading it wrong, have you got the no black box and black box prices mixed up?
i was thinking the same thing... no way a car with no black box cost less than a car that has black box.
My first car was a 207 and only let me down twice in 3 years. Now got a Renault Laguna cause Estates are the best thing since sliced bread.
Please someone tell me how he got 889 without a black box on the Hyundai I get like 2.3k for without a black box
Nice keep the video’s coming
the aygo was the only car we could find for our daughter that was less than 2k to insure, she has moved on to a corsa D now the aygo is now the wifes daily, build quality isnt great the seats are shockingly bad and the little 3 cylinder likes to burn oil but it just keeps going, next year it will be my sons car when he is learning to drive.
excellent video! could you please do a video on cheapest diesels to insure thanks
Good idea - I’ll have a look!
Having fewer cars is better generally, but for this kind of video I think the longer list works. It also leaves room for more detail on these cars in future videos. For example, 5 cars that will cost you under X amount within a year. Could pick 5 of these and work out costs including fuel, tax, insurance, depreciation, servicing and average repairs (or warranty quotes), just a thought ☺
Also the Jazz is the Green Goblin of Cars with JB, except it's actually a brilliant car for anyone boring (which is most people let's be honest).
Hahaha that’s such a fair shout - nothing wrong with the Jazz, I’m just salty 👀
Jazz would be a great first car for someone who has children
Just the video I needed
Can you do one for just automatic cars please
You should do a video for automatic drivers.
Im buying a dacia. Literally cant go wrong
Good, thank you. ( btw, the MK1 Yaris 1.0 has a 4 cylinder engine, not an inline 3 ).
Incorrect, the 1.33 litre is the inline 4, 1.0 litre is inline 3
@@m4nty451 The Mk1 1.0 Yaris from 1999 has a 4 cylinder. The Mk2 1.0 Yaris from late 2005 has a 3. ( same engine as Aygo, C1 and 107 Peugeot )
@@andrewpreston4127 just checked again you're right!
@@m4nty451 Indeed I yam. I own a 2006 Yaris 1.0 …. and it’s definitely got that 3 cylinder growl.
Had the mazda 2 because it was the fastest car with cheap insurance, get the 1.5 sport because it sometimes has cheaper insurance than the 1.3/1.4 diesel
Your Prices are crazy in my country insurance for a 16 year old in lets say a Mercedes Cl500 would be maximum 300 Euros a Year.
Crazy - you guys are fortunate! At least we have cheap cars
Hey bro I love the vid was just wondering what website you used to get the insurance quotes in the video?
Getting quotes of 21k on any 1.4 liter
super interesting - thought that Audi was cool - agree less cars reviewed works better
for my first car I've got a mk8 fiesta (mines 2018) and insurance on it is £800 with a black box or £1200 without, so I'm not getting one. My mate has a mk6 fiesta, he paid £300 for it, and his insurance is going to be £1400. Kinda crazy to think a cheaper old car is more expensive than a new car to insure
Yeah it’s nuts - insurance is so savage!
I ran quotes both from my postcode with the same number of named drivers and start date and annual mileage, literally 5 minutes apart. And my fiesta (the mk8) came back cheaper, even though it’s a 3 year old car that cost £10,500 and his was about £300
@@sammilburn445 hmm that's weird. Maybe it's because you're newer car will have more safety features which in turn would make you less likely to claim for injury. Other than that I got no idea
What I found is if you put your car's value (usually) under £500, the insurance prices increase so much. It's better to buy a more expensive car (valued around £500 or more) for a cheaper car insurance.
I don't know if you're biased but I've never seen you once mention the vw lupo (at least from the videos I've seen), I just wanna know why. It's basically a smaller polo with better interior.
I got a Ford Fiesta MK 6.5 for under 7k and insurance first year no black box for 1.5k. Really nice first car and doing my advanced driver training in it so hopefully I can get some money off next year! My dream realistic car is the latest seat Leon I think haha but yet to drive it. It will take a lot to turn my back on Ford haha
What kind of driving training?
@@b9bj7n3s7 advanced civilian :)
I drive a 2009 Corsa 1.4 Petrol 88hp as my first car, bad rep but I love it
Per your captions, the "No Black Box" insurances seem to be cheaper. Is that correct ?
I noticed this aswell I think they might be the wrong way round
They’re the right way around! Many of the quotes I got, no black box was cheaper (check the screenshots for proof in many cases) - it’s consistent with what I found in my ‘how to get cheap insurance’ video
@@CarsWithJB That's surprising!!! There are two "step" kids in my life who will soon be taking their driving tests so your insights have been very helpful.
It seems like the price gap between insurance policies with or without a black box is becoming narrower and narrower.
Im confused why is it cheaper without a black box
How did you afford that insurance at such a young age, I want to get my first car asap but the prices are scarily high at the end cost.
See if this video will help with your quotes: ua-cam.com/video/ph7eyV-1RIk/v-deo.html
I’ve managed to save up 4k with a part time job and I’m not even 17 yet, it is possible
How are you getting insurance so low? when I do it the lowest without a black box is rarely under £2000
I wish I had a quote under £2000 even with a box
From this video I subscribed you.
Ratings for these cars and reasons:
Fiat Punto: Good.
It was my dads first car too back in the 90s (although the mk2 model not the mk5 shown there)
Seat Ibiza:Good. Its a good little car and it has a german engine which cannot go wrong. It is also quite fizzy and fun and its also very popular with boyracers. So if you want a car to race people with, get this! (boyracers do tend to get the later models if im honest)
Mini one hatch: Good.
You should be okay for power with a 1.4 model though (If you can afford them that is)
Kia picanto: Good: Yeah its good I guess Dont really have much to say about it. QQuite Reliable I assume. All I know is that later models are quite underpowered ish.
Toyota Yaris: The BEST of the BEST: ITS LIKE THE BEST JAPENESE HATCHBACK YOU CAN BUY! IT MAY BE UNDERPOWERED BUT ITS THE MOST RELIABLE THING EVER BASICALLY
Renault Clio:The WORST of The WORST: Again its french so reliability is pretty shitty.
What website do you use to find the insurance
What website are you using for insurance quotes?
My mate just got a vw polo 1.9 sdi for £300 and runs it on waste veg oil so it's saving him alot of money on fuel and it's cheap to insure, it's a no brainer tbh!
Haha that’s crazy!
@@CarsWithJB I took it for a test drive a few days ago and to be honest I couldn't tell it was running on cooking oil from the chippy shop apart from the smell 🤣 but yea you should read into it, it's interesting what older cars can!
Polo gang 🤘
🚗🚗🚗
Lol 63 plate peugoet 107, cost me 1600 when I was 18 - covid screwed my first test at 17 so I couldn't do it again till September Last year, insurance was £1059 (was 888 before I changed My plate over) without black box... shop around and you can find something
looking at buying a suzuki swift as ive wanted one for years, just wondering what kind of miles did you put annualy and were there additional drivers? Great video btw!
He made a video on it

What about the Daihatsu Sirion?
It depends aswell on where you live, I live in the middle of the country and had a corsa D as a first car, 1.3 cdti with 89hp was only £760 first year with no black box
how so cheap insurance mines like 4k
I got quoted 12k for a 2013 golf…
10k for a 14 golf 😭
Would a mk3 fiesta be good
I had a Peugeot 107 as my first car at 17 and insurance was £2080. Halved after the first year.
Same here, £2K first year, £1k second
Have a look at the Fiat Panda 100HP
It’s been in a few of my vids! I’ve been in one too
@@CarsWithJB ohh I must not have seen them. What do you think of them? I'm 18 and about to engine swap my Panda 100ho 😬😁
I bought a 2011 Nisan Note ntec 1.5 diesel for my first car and it feels nippy, looks good. Great features and its fun to drive.
I was really hoping to see this car on your list as its 84 bhp, 12.8sec 0-60 and does 56.5mpg and is fairly cheap insurance and has a ton of decent modern interior features.
Love the list tho
I was torn between the skoda fabia and the suzuki swift too, but ultimately went for the note for the alloys, sat nav, full electric windows and tinted windows that come stock.
I dont have to worry about it getting stolen and everyone i see driving one is old...so the insurance for it is dirt cheap lol
Can we have an update in 2024👍🏻
I'm 27, just starting to get my license now, and when I look at insurance prices for myself....bruh.
I literally can not find anything under 2 grand for the first year, no matter what car I use, even small shitboxes.
I'm 19 and have a c220 c class. with 2 years no claims, im still paying 2.5k for insurance
great. what generation do you have? w203?
@@scourgeofbloodclan9539 W204. i bought a 2013 so i get the facelift version as well as the updated interior
What do you think of a toyota starlet as a 1st car?
Very cool car, just depends on insurance
Hyundai, Kia and Toyota are generally always cheap on insurance and the most reliable.
Do the Fabia hatchback and Fabia estate cost the same to insure? Jw.
can u do cheap insurance cars that look nice at least for first time drivers plsss man
I have done in the past! I’ll no doubt do more
@@CarsWithJB Lovely stufffff

Sadly in my country, you won't get insured on a car older than 10years for your first car, meaning shit gets expensive. Also has to be 1L or I'd your lucky 1.2L.
I’m a few years off driving but I still want to know if the Hyundai coupe 1.6L 2007 would be a good first car? It’s my personal dream (first) car
It would be very cool - don’t know about insurance though!
Insurance on any coupe is fucked, you won't get insured on one, even with a box
the k11 micra s is my first car sheesh my guy toots is speedy
BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO ITS SO HELPFUL
Not now it isn't. It's very outdated. You'd be lucky to get most of those cars for less than 4k
@zythergalezyth4040 well thanks for the heads up man appreciated
What or where would you recommend?
I can't seem to get a cheap insurance quote on the i10
The facelift suzuki swift from 2001 is way cheaper and way more reliable
(And also way cooler to look at😎)
What are your thoughts on a 2007 Hyundai Getz 1.5 as a first car?
The k12 Nissan micra 1.2 engine actually makes 79.6 bhp just to correct
