Im a white guy and grew up on sam cooke and billie holiday and etta james and the world they wanted is not the worls we are living in and its heartbreaking. great song and yes hopefully another change will come. He fought for unity lets make this change a movement. love doesnt know color.
Sam Cooke is one of all-time favorite male performers, up there with Elvis and Jackie Wilson. You can't go wrong with any of his songs: Cupid, Chain Gang, You Send Me, Only SIxteen...such a smooth voice.
I love this song! Sam Cooke is the GOAT! Although he was before I was born, he has always been a big part of my life because my parents played his records so I know a lot of his music! This song was very important to the civil rights movement! You can hear the pain in that beautiful voice! He was an amazing singer and songwriter and smart businessman!❤️❤️
One of my favorite deep felt reaction I've seen in my lifetime been a fan of this channel for a year now many props to both of U!! Let me add FREEDOM for HAPPINESS has NO COLOR NOR RACE or RELIGION as we all have the same within we call a HEART where TRUE LOVE don't discriminate true words from a new friend for all ALBERTO from MEXICO! PS--- SAM COOKE a true artist that breaks boundaries with the spirit of his voice R.I.P.
The song was inspired by various events in Cooke's life, most prominently when he and his entourage were turned away from a whites-only motel in Louisiana. Cooke felt compelled to write a song that spoke to his struggle and of those around him, and that pertained to the Civil Rights Movement and African Americans. Though only a modest hit for Cooke in comparison with his previous singles, "A Change Is Gonna Come" is widely considered one of Cooke's greatest and most influential compositions and has been voted among the greatest songs ever released by various publications. In 2007, the song was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress, with the National Recording Registry deeming the song "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important. In 2021, it appeared on Rolling Stone's list of the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, ranked at No. 3
This song is so beautiful-and it reminds me of my childhood. I was 9 when MLK was shot. This song is truer today than when it was recorded in ‘63. ♥️ We gotta keep on keepin on!
Sam Cooke was amazing, what a truly gorgeous voice 💕 it’s so heartbreaking that racism is still a thing 😒😒 I’m in tears now and I will never understand why or how anyone can possibly believe that they are better than any of their fellow man 😒
Really says something about the power of this song that Sam himself said to people that he didn't know if he could ever perform this live. The Message was so strong and emotive it almost scared him. Every time I hear his beautiful powerful vocal on this Timeless classic, I always think about that, and how much it must have affected him personally.
Wow Jay, thank you so much for the information on Sam Cooke. These important details make me feel like I know him a little more. I really appreciate your comment💜😀

This song hits every nerve possible..gives me goosebumps an makes me cry.i was born in 63 an not much has changed but we still fight on an try to forget the horrible people we live amongst in todays world..peace an love from scotland...🥰🥰🥰🥰🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Don't lose the fact that Sam himself wrote this song, and he first released out in 1964 during that very rough year. It was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation and ranked by Rolling Stone Magazine as no 3 in the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Probably my most favorite of the 60’s, Sam Cooke singing this song brings me to tears every time 😢 I have adored Sam Cooke since I was a teen, my family probably wondered why a skinny, white girl was so into soul music & still am, this song has taken me to dark places & up to the heavens! It’s Been A Long Time Coming & to this day still is, Sam had difficult times back then all the racism of that time made him write this beautiful song & I think it was his last song before he was attacked & murdered, I don’t know if the guys were ever charged 😡 I cried my heart out when I heard the news of Sam’s murder, I still cry when listening to certain sad songs of Sam Cooke, this one especially but it also brings the word like a preacher would sing to his flock & spreads love and faith for a change, it is that time again and people have to wake up this is the message from Sam 💗☮️🎶🇨🇦❤️🩹
Sam Cooke got into producing others with his own label before he died. He was Barry Gordy before Barry Gordy was Berry Gordy. I weep thinking about what could have been with Sam.
Every Time I Here This Song! I Breakdown And Cry Thinking About My Father He Passed 25 Years Ago! THE Death Of My Favorite Auntie Jus Make Me Think About Life I Heard A Lot Of People Sing This Song! But Can’t Nobody Do It Like Sam R.I.P. 🖤
Sam Cooke is definitely a legend I cry every time I hear this song you can tell in his voice his pain I'm 64 and my wife is 49 I played it for her in the car while we was on vacation and she start it crying is a beautiful song and if you have a soul you will cry as well and I pray a change will come for all of us God bless and thank you for playing this wonderful song

I go back and forth on this one. Sometimes I'm in and other times I step back a bit. So this is what I've decided: If it isn't the best song ever written then it's definitely tied for first. A tear every goddamn time.
**Sam Cooke** Is A **Legend** He Was Definitely A Role Model To The USA. He Knew For A Fact, That Music Is The Universal Clincher, To Unite All People Together As **One** The Opposers Was Aware Of It And They Did What They Could To Prevent It From Happening. **Sam Cooke** Will Never Be Forgotten!!!!!!! This Song Will Always Be **Blessed** And Be **Revered** With Love, Hope, Salvation, Deliverance, And Freedom For Us All.
I am a 67-year-old white man. I can remember some of these days and the divide, contrary to what some think or say, about there hasn't been a change. I say it has been a huge change, maybe not everything that is needed but there has been a change.
Sam Cooke had a beautiful gift this man could sing gospel and Aretha Franklin loved this man he was her first crush and it was so sad 😢 he died so young he was shot in a motel by the clerk.
Song gets me emotional like no song every has! I pray that our children can live in a world where we don't determine everything on race,I have my battles and never experienced that struggle but I will fight next to my brothers and sisters!
AMAZING SONG! Amazing MAN! AMAZING VOICE!! It chokes me up every time I hear it! I can honestly say this is thee ONLY song that gets this reaction out of me- WELL DONE SAM! Well DONE! Definitely gone EXTREMELY TOO SOON!
No one sings this song like Sam Cooke. He was taken from us too soon, but he DID live to see the civil rights movement of the 60's. I know he would have been proud of all the improvements, and perhaps saddened to see the more recent racial divisions.
I'd recommend a singer named Barbara Lewis who recorded in the early 1960s. During a time when recording equipment meant most singers had a scratchy sound by today's standards, her voice was so pure it sounded like it was recorded yesterday. I only remember two artists who could do that...Barbara Lewis and Jackie Wilson. Barbara's best hits were 'Hello Stranger", "Baby, I'm Yours" and "Make Me Your Baby". When you hear the quality of the background music compared to her voice, I think you'll see what I mean. Good video.
I was born in 1962 and something I wrote in 1970 People ask me all the time if I had to live my life over again and what year would it be ? My answer was the year 1964 but instead of being two years old I would've like to be 18 years old. I feel 1964 was sparked by the spirit of revolution that would be sparked by the tumultuous events of 1964 and reverberate throughout the rest of the 1960's and beyond was summed up in a song by Sam Cooke released in the final months of that transformative year and it was called A Change Is Gonna Come. In 1964 everywhere people are saying " I CAN DO SOMETHING " change is possible , change is worth living and dying for and would we dare go forward? Yes we would. It was the creation of a new America and a door to our future and one we went through it there was no going back. 1964 saw a series of events that really did crystallize the tension between the tremendous sense of idealism coexisting the dawning sense of outrage. Here it is America , here's the bad now let's make it good and that's what we’re about. We’re Americans. We were still on fire and what we were feeling what it was like to mobilize and I think I determined that coming out of that and that is possible to change the course of history. Like I said I would pay money to live through that whole era again and I would make all the same mistakes. 1964 was the propulsion from the past into the future. Yes it has been a long time coming but I know a change is gonna come
Good to see a power black couple reacting to this video...Sam's voice is always classic but this video adds something new...keep doing yall thing my brotha and my sista
Back in the day, a young Marvin Gaye was going after Sam Cooke to take his spot as the no.1 black male crooner. Sam met with a untimely death in 1964. Marvin did grab the torch and eventually did a second Civil Rights song, which was released in 1971. That song was entitled, 'What's going on?. Hopefully you two can react to Marvin's version.
I want to ask you if you heard of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She was an influence on of the early days of black gospel songs and at a time when the segregation was so widespread and severe that black artists couldn’t sell records beyond their own fellow blacks because most whites were racists.
He wrote this after hearing Peter Paul and Mary sing Dylan’s Blowing in the Wind at the 1963 March with MLK. He said a black man had to write an anthem. Great song and man.
