  • The Hermida Audio Zendrive is one of the most sought-after overdrive pedals in the world. Originally produced in very small numbers by designer Alfonso Hermida, the Zendrive is now produced by Lovepedal, who make some of our favourite pedals of all time and Danny Gill is here to explain just why this one is so special.

    Great demo! One where the guy can actually play, how weird! I just ordered one of these for my Silverface Super Reverb and I can’t believe I didn’t buy one sooner. The most responsive, smooth sounding overdrive pedal I’ve ever owned. It can do light, dynamic bluesy overdrive sounds with my Strat and Tele, then can go right into nasty singing sustain lead sounds with my Les Paul Custom. Now matter how much gain you have it never loses its responsiveness or becomes muddy. I can wait to see how this works for shows in the near future!

    Have this exact version of the zendrive and I’ve been slowly turning the guys around me onto it. As far as “non-tube screamer” type overdrives, this is my second favorite...eclipsed only by my king/prince of tone pedals. Which, honestly, that’s saying a lot. My king of tone is like a baby’s pacifier...I get all cranky and fussy without it. The zendrive actually makes a *great* companion for the KOT. It handles the really smooth, “expensive” guitar sounds when you need them and believe it or not, stacks quite well. I’ve found that a lot of character overdrives just don’t do that. It’s absolutely AMAZING for dinner sets and sparse, ballady tunes with a lot of space for the pedal’s detail to shine through. Definitely one of my “never going to sell it” pedals 👍

      @@surfthejapstrat7010 This one! It has red sides and was a limited edition- all of the pots max out at 10% more then the regular pedal there's also a very lame Gold version that's 10% less powerful in every way then the original why you'd ever want that I have no idea but neo soul hipsters who want the sound of no pedal but use pedals like it (they literally turn every pot to neutral or near zero the weirdos).

    Any advice whether this pedal is expected to perform as shown if placed in the effects loop rather than on the front end? I just bought one but only tried it in the effects loop and it's not transparent like this, it's muddy and bassy. Thinking I got a lemon.

    I've had a Zendrive for about ten years which was handbuilt (and signed) by Alf Hermida himself. I don't know if they have messed around with the circuit or components but it sounds nothing like the one in this video. Mine is fatter, creamier and is far less raspy and harsh. Glad I bought it before Lovepedal started building them. I hasten to add my playing is nowhere near the standard of Danny Gill though!

      This is the red version. More gain on tap and more aggressive tone. There are a bunch of different versions now, including the original voicing and color scheme, but also a black, gold, white, and one with a tube in it. All sound a bit different.

      @kingstumble 6 років тому

      Joe, Ah that would explain it. I still think mine's the best!

      Note that this is the Red Zen Lovepedal and it is described as having more ”gain” than the original. I bought one and found it is not touch sensitive like my original Zen. I recently bought the so called Original build black Love Zen. Total waste of money. Nothing like the original barely any gain even turned all the way up compared to the original. I opened it and compared the two and the new Love pedal has a huge printed circuit board covering everything. So no way is it the original build which was hand wired by Hermida.

    • @samroney6644
      @samroney6644 5 років тому

      The regular version by Lovepedal sounds identical to the originals. This isn't the regular. The red is a different circuit and is missing the distinct "chirp" of both the original and Lovepedal "regular" version, which are identical circuits & made to identical specs.

      @profd65 5 років тому +1

      I seriously doubt what you're saying. You lack objectivity, and are keen to make what you own seem special and above the reach of others. Lovepedal is perfectly able to reproduce a circuit. Unless they are for some reason using dogshit parts you're simply wrong.

    You should change the title to reflect that this is not the plain, "regular version" Zendrive. As this is the "Red Dot" or "Red" version, a pedal with an entirely different circuit and entirely different tone, your title is misleading to those who are unfamiliar with the difference. This pedal was given the Red Zendrive name as an exclusive to Guitar Center at their request to help sales, but is a wholly different pedal from the regular Zendrive. Lovepedal does make the regular Zendrive still, but this is not it. They made a deal with Alf Hermida after he got so far behind filling paid orders that catching up wasn't possible. They agreed to take responsibility for building & filling the open, paid for orders to keep him out of trouble in exchange for the rights to the name, design, and future production & sales. They(Lovepedal) still produce the original design on limited basis. They later made a different pedal with a similar circuit but with different components and higher gain for Guitar Center. At GC's insistence, they gave it the Hermida/Zendrive moniker, but promoted it as a different, "limited edition" Red version with higher gain and different cosmetics. This is the one you are demoing, NOT the original/regular version by either Hermida or Lovepedal.

      You're wrong. This is the same pedal.

    • @samroney6644
      @samroney6644 5 років тому +1

      @@profd65 Actually, you are wrong. This is the "Red" or "Red Dot" Zendrive. Lovepedal does, however, make one that looks like this except with a black bottom, which IS the same as the original. This one was specially made for Guitar Center to different specs as a different pedal.

    • @gtrman69777
      @gtrman69777 4 роки тому

      What do you think of the version that is completely red? Is it the same as this one? What about the black pedal? I was considering getting one of those but would like the opinion of someone who is more familiar with them than I am.
