    I appreciate that you don’t take “weathered” to mean abused, but simply in work clothes and dust, not neglect. Looks great!

    Don't know if you monitor comments after as long as this has been up or not. Have watched your videos over 2 yrs or so. Yours are the best model videos going. You not only build good models but do a great job with the camera. If the camera is not held steady it makes it hard to see and makes some people dizzy. Your camera work is outstanding which makes all the difference in the world. I have been a model railroader since the 60's when I built model cars too but that has advanced so far beyond what we did it is like another world. I have watched your skills improve over time as we all do as we learn from others and learn by doing. This truck is outstanding. Glad you are doing weathering now.
    There was a model railroader by the name of John Allen, from Monterey, CA who was a gifted modeler, artist, photographer and writer. He wrote on model railroad topics often. He developed "weathering" for railroad models, using pastel chalk dust and dry brush just like you did here. At first many thought he was crazy. But it caught on and we are better for it. The more realistic a good builder can make it look the more we start to think it looks......well....real. And that is the point.
    Thanks for many hours of entertainment, and for all I have learned so far....and all I might learn from the these videos in the future.

    Love the build. Airlines on most tractors today are colour coded blue and red with black being the power cable. If the lines are black which might be on older trucks, the gladhands that connect to the trailer are blue and red. The ends are different anyway so they can’t be connected incorrectly.
    Love these classic trucks.

    I always painted my models before I assembled anything. Unless there were things like the frame and suspension bits, things that were going to be the same color. I would put all that together prior to painting.
    I hate that I lost my model collection a while back. I built my models with full plumbing and wiring. I did things like cut window shells, like this and my Autocar had, and put the door windows in partial up or down position. Also have the drivers side visor down.
    My Peterbilt that I never got to finish, I even had airlines on the gear shift. I was going to put airlines from the engine, all the way back to the air tanks, and to each brake canister. bummer I lost my dang model collection! 😠
    I'm just about to go get a model kit here soon and start up again. I miss building.
    P.s. I wish I had your talent for weathering the model. that looks fantastic! I don't have that kind of skill.

    Watching this inspired me to go in the garage and break out my old kits from the 80's. I started when I was about 11 and became obsessed with detail belts, hoses, plug and battery wires, fuel and trans. lines it got pretty bad in the sense that all I did was build for about 4 years straight. I gave it up for that reason but I'd like to get back to it, I was never calmer, it was almost zen like meditation!! Great job by the way.

    Excellent work as always! Your videos are very inspiring and informative. I enjoy them very much!
    One thing that I've noticed on the Freightliner I drive is that the back of the cab gets very dirty. In wet weather water, which picks up dirt and oil from the road swirls around in between the cab and the front of the trailer and when it dries it leaves a dark grey film on everything back there. Also, rust streaks down the cab from the steel parts/fasteners/brackets mounted on the roof and rear of the cab. Something to consider for future projects.

    I really like the detail you put into your models to make them look like they would in reality, but one thing I can say is the size of model chain you would use is huge compared to scale the scale of chain used would be 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch in reality.

  • @bobastu
    @bobastu 5 років тому

    Good build, I liked the color on the diesel. Good weathering. My only, only criticism is the chain looks too light (weight) compared to heaviness, realistic attention to detail. My professor always said, "do not [criticize] unless you have a solution," and I do have a possible solution. Weave a thin stainless (or copper/brass) wire through the links. The scale is small enough, it should not stand out much, if at all. Spools of the stuff, maybe 0.030 inches or even smaller, we use as lock wire at work. Even if you only used it sparingly at bands and elbows to make the elbow bend more like heavy truck chain. Just my two cisterces on the build. Otherwise - outstanding.

    What's holding me up is the mounting of the rear and center axel to the suspension, the picture is confusing me. Do I delicately mount it the raised tabs or does it sit flush on the suspension with the tabs to the rear of it?

    What paint did you use on the cab.could I use krypton red oxide primer on a plastic model kit.just ordered this kit,thank you for your time and talent

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  6 років тому

      That krylon primer should be fine on plastic. I used Santa Red craft paint over the rustoleum red primer.

    I love the job you did on the weathering. It is inspiring me to make amt’s kenworth k123 cabover truck with almost the same weathering affects. Do you think the dust weathering would work with acrylics? One more question: where do you get the colored vasoline

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  5 років тому

      Acrylics will work just fine.
      I just stirred some paint into the vaseline, simple as that.

    great truck chris, looks like the old workhorse. i notice that a lot of modelers prefer the used and abused
    rusting kind af cars and trucks. what's wrong with the showroom look, just coming of the assembling line ?
    is it to much or to difficult to build ? thanks and k.u.t.g.w.

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  6 років тому

      If you take a look at my reviews, I do some that are in showroom shape, some that are used but still nice (daily driver) and some that are really used hard.
      For me it all depends on the vision I have for that kit.
      I think the used up and totally trashed look is popular right now. I try to go for used, but not totally used up look myself.
