Facts. I use them everyday and my neighbor has a tree. It's a huge difference, if they're ripe you will not need a knife either. You can peel them. I do. If I can't peel it, then I don't eat it.

Some of these avocados didn't look ripe. That makes them a bit hard to cut and the flesh will be stiff. I hope someday they get to try a recipe with ripe avocados with salt and lemon or lime and a bit of chile, I'm sure they would love it.

I remember the first avocado I had in 1964. I bought it from a street vendor in Manchester England and it was called avocado pear and I also bought a Chinese gooseberry which is now known as a kiwi fruit. I spent my birthday money on them. I took them home and called on Grandma to share them. We didn't know how to slice the avocado and cut the top off and tried peeling it. We thought it wasn't ripe because it wasn't sweet and we were surprised with the huge stone in the middle. We enjoyed the Chinese gooseberry, kiwi. We cut that in half and scooped the fruit out with a small spoon.

However, when I came to learn from a natural doctor that avocado contain oils that prevent inflammation (that lead to heart disease and joint pain) and can lower cholesterol, as well they are filling and thus can prevent over eating, I learn to eat one, or half of one every day. I break my fast with this followed by some nuts - very good for the aging body :)

Lemon juice, a little olive oil, salt and pepper. They're great and I eat them several times a week. Very beneficial for health too.
Suspend the seed over a glass of water using toothpicks, ensuring bottom half is covered in water, and it'll sprout and grow. You have to grow several to ensure pollination for fruit as there are male and female flowers and they don't necessarily open at the same time. I've sprouted several avacado trees doing this.

These villagers are so innately wise, their assessment of avocado could not have been more accurate for people who'd never tried it before. Definitely a nutty flavour, difficult to describe like the taste of water, and definitely enhanced with a sprinkle of salt. These avys looked a bit underripe. Maybe next time you can have them try it in a guacamole, as an accompaniment, or even spread on toast. The seeds can actually be boiled into a beautiful red tea which contains all the same nutrients as the avys themselves. Avocados for life! 🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑

Hass is generally considered the best tasting one (my personal favorite) and Fuerte is good tasting plus it's the one we had the most of because they are also the best producing (I would guess about 200 pounds per year per tree) . Hello friends from Los Angeles! As avocados are Huge here, they must be eaten at the right time. Much like a banana🍌- eaten too early and they are hard and not very edible, eaten after they are overripe, they will be mushy and not very tasty. They are best, when they are darker in color and semi-soft 🥑 The only one that looks like it's ripe is Rana's. Avocados are healhy, rich, creamy, and buttery! Salt and Peppers should be added as well to bring out the flavor. Avocado chunks/slices can be added to salads/vegetables/meats/rice bowls/hamburgers/sandwiches, etc... and can be mashed and added to toast or made into guacamole :P to eat with tortilla chips/quesadillas/nachos. They can also be added to smoothies or chocolate for desserts/mousse for a healthy twist ☺

Their reactions were so similar to mine when I first tried an avocado. It they could taste bitterness, it sounds like the fruit needed to another day or two to ripen and mellow. They are at their richest, if eaten plain, the day before they start to rot.

I'm new to eating avocados myself and I was told not to eat the green ones. They need to sit for 2-3 days for it to turn black. Once it turns black, eat it right away as it goes bad quickly thereafter. I eat them with salt and pepper and they are good that way.
Any time eating new fruit, you need to find out when it is ripe. Not every fruit is the same.

Oh you absolutely must make guacamole from avocados and have them try it again with corn tortilla chips. Make the guacamole spicy.
Also the avocado must be ripe to eat. Some of them ate non ripe ones. If the outer skin is green it isn’t ripe. If it is dark and soft then it’s perfect

My family and I LOVE avocados!
I have a bag full of them in my refrigerator right now.
We mostly make guacamole dip with them, but also slice them for sandwiches, or put them into smoothies.
I don't eat a lot of sugar and the easiest way to make a really tasty guacamole is to mash two ripe avocados, and add two tablespoonsful of Tostitos brand (no sugar, really yummy) salsa. Voila! Instant guac., no fuss. We dip blue corn tortilla chips into it or a variety of veggies like cauliflower/broccoli/grape tomatoes/jicama/celery/red, orange or yellow pepper/carrot sticks, etc.
    Great snack or party dish.
Avacados are really good for you. 😀

Also, Haas avocados with the pebbly skin taste very different to smooth skinned ones, AND RIPENESS is critical for flavor and texture changes!
