Sruthi means pitch and name as sa ri ga ma pa dha ni called sargam and LAYAM IS SINGLE UNIT OF BEAT,but rythm is set of LAYAM played form groove, you call name of layam ta ka thi mi tha ka tha ki ta are "jathi"alikes sapthaswaras, but jaathi is sub division of tala angas different from jathi

Yes brother you can but try practicing with tanpura too , and without any instrument too , it will help

Absolutely. Contemporary 'music' is devoid of Shruti and is stuck in one laya, flat, removing all diversity and variety.
