We should all be proud that we have music teachers like Pratibha Sarathy amongst us. It is splendid that we are willing to study music from her, appreciate it, and practice it.
That’s a great exercise too, but that’s an advanced level exercise because the notes are very close to each other and singing them continuously requires tremendous control. For beginners and intermediate level this version is preferable where we have a common reference. But no worries I will do the advanced version too in future.
miss i am not a trained singer.but can you teach me to sing ENNAVALE ADI ENNAVALE SONG.I AM UNABLE TO SING IN HIGH PITCH AT THE PORTION ' ITHU SORGAMAA NARAGAMAA SOLLADI ULLAPADI NAAN VAAZHHVATHUM VIDAIKONDU POAVATHUM UN VARTHAYIL ULLATHADI .PLS REPLY.
Thank you for sharing. Some notes are quite distinct. But at higher speeds it sounds as if the distinction between m and M, d and D and n an N is very subtle and gets blurred for the untrained ears. A great training to sensitise our ears.
Mam, you are simply the best teacher I ever met.... your knowledge and express the concept in a way that even a layman can catch that so quickly...wonderful !!!
This video lesson is absolutely relevant for all self learners like me. Can't find any video in this reg from any other channels on music. You have clearly shown the differentiation on each Swara, how the pitch goes higher on each note and how it should be achived with slight voice modulation. I am practicing in key board and the pitch variation is clearly heard on keys. But how the semitone variation can be applied vocally is clearly demonstrated by you. You certainly read the minds of students and their basic doubts and strive to solve that. Definitely this clarity on how the Swaras to be expressed with right pitch variation is foundation to move further.Thank you very much. 🙏
Hello Mam! I have an issue that I face which is that my voice gets choked when in ac room. What can I do to avoid that or is there anything I could do to avoid that?
This is fascinating for several reasons, but primarily for me as I read in Louis Spohr's autobiography that for his first Violin lesson he learned the G# Accord. I always thought this meant an arpeggio, but maybe his teacher had learned music in India? Also if you are taught to read the notes at the same time it will include the F double sharp, which if you learn double sharps later they present a stumbling block. I will definitely recommend your video to my students, but I will suggest they use the numbers 2 thru 12, and use the Key name for 1, as I think our American minds are already familiar with this concept as related to distance in time or inches and won't have to struggle learning new names for things.
Of course . This can be practised using harmonium or keyboard , however once you master this on your respective instruments , you should start doing without them use tanpura for reference and pratice .
Now we have 16 variants of notes. Sa and Pa are standard. By taking different combinations, we get 72 different ragas which have all 7 swaras. Eg. Kanakangi arohanam avarohanam is SR1G1M1PD1N1Ś ŚN1D1PM1G1R1S There's a mathematical explanation too if you'd like to know. Every other raga is derived from one of these 72 ragas. To easily know the names of these ragas, we have the katapayadhisankhya system.
You did it very well,as you said it .i have no words to describe your new video ma'am.i am so to be here.i hope you are doing very well these.i am extremely proud of you for sharing it
Hey, tx! I've learned a lot from you. Really appreciate the good work. Coming to today's lesson: so, the swara 'sa' you're singing on the keyboard (n i assume the harmonium) has to be the note D right? Tx. Cheers
It refers to the pitch or position of the note. Usually this skill of identifying different variants of the Swaras is developed by practising alankarams in different Ragas. That helps us understand the pitch difference between small and big ri, small and big ga etc. if you want more detailed guidance on this subject, please feel free to explore my detailed courses on the voxguru app. Sharing the download links below Android - bit.ly/3nTLqex iOS - apple.co/2Yfeowu

Pratibha Madame, You are so versatile and musical. You are doing a great job for voxguru. I think I can learn a lot from you. am seriously thinking about contacting you. With love, regards and blessings.
I never knew that there was such a different approach to the musical notes. I found this to be more wholesome and easier to understand than western style. I will be learning more, for sure. Binging in your channel!
In terms of swara positions it is only 2 Ga's. The Ga 3 notation is used in a different context particularly in carnatic music. Check out this video to understand this better. ua-cam.com/video/oOqqVMD6fC8/v-deo.htmlsi=IAXPy8pjSRCq9cqb

Would have been good to hear the 12 notes in sequence, ie, s r R g G m M P d D n N S

In uttar hindustani music the small swaras are called komal swaras and big swaras are called shuddha swaras
