- Replacing a Moen Cartridge (1225 B) for a single handle faucet in a bathroom. The faucet had a steady drip. The new cartridge solved the problem.
Thank you. I just replaced the handle with the help of this video. Called moen and they sent me all the parts for free. Excellent customer service!!
Very Helpful instructions! Plus the tip to call Moen for the replacement cartridges is greatly appreciated. Just repaired all 3 of my bathroom sinks. Went extremely smooth.
Congrats on the repair!
Thanks...worked like a charm. Video was long, because you answered all the questions anyone may have, before they even knew to asked it. Nice work 👍
Hey thanks! Glad it could be of some use to you.
So very helpful! Thank you so much!! You should be a prof! Crystal clear, very detailed!
Thank you. I’m glad it could be of some use to you!
Thank you so much!! Thank you for going into the little details and giving tips about problems/challenges we might encounter while going through the steps. We successfully fixed our leaky faucet. Thanks again!
I’m glad it could be of help, congrats on your repair!
Excellent tutorial! You saved me a lot of heartache, especially after trying to figure out the pictograph instructions that came with the cartridge. Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful for you!
Excellent description explaining the installation process especially how to overcome potential snags.
Thanks for the kind words, glad it was useful
This was very helpful in repairing my 20 year old faucet. Much appreciated!
Thanks for the kind words I’m glad you were able to repair it yourself!!
Your Video was superb!! All the needed details were thoroughly explained with extra emphasis on challenging steps. Getting the old cartridge out was extremely difficult. On mine the two rubber covers at the bottom of old cartridge disloged and make the extraction all most impossible. With some time I came back to the project and used some leverage to remove the old cartridge. After that the process went fairly smooth. Thanks alot for the video, it made this project possible.
I know those old cartridges can be a bear. Congrats on sticking it out and getting it done yourself!
Mine did the same, bought the puller for $20 and consider it worth it.
Thanks for the video. I had to change a cartridge in a bathroom sink today and your example made it quick and painless.
Great job! Glad it helped
Thank you for making this video. Your instructions helped me save time, effort and cost in replacing my faucet cartridge.
Great I’m glad it was helpful to you
Thank you, I appreciate your detailed video. I had a leaky faucet, your video helped me fix the issue in under 10mins.
Awesome! glad it helped
Thank you for the in-depth video. You did a great job and now I can tackle my own Moen bathroom faucet provided I can get the part!
Most hardware stores will have it but if you can’t find it call Moen and they will help you
Just used this video to replace the Moen faucet cartridge in my daughter's guest bathroom. Great descriptions! No more leaky faucet!
Congratulations on your repair! I’m glad it was useful for you
Excellent tutorial…nicely paced and shows enough detail to plan the repair. Much thanks!
Glad you found it helpful
Very well explained, I couldn’t find a video that was that style faucet but your video helped thank you
Glad it helped!!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you SO much! Your expertise got me through the job. Works like a new one!
Glad it helped you do it yourself!
One of the best instructional videos i have watched. Worked perfectly!
Thanks for the kind words! Glad it was helpful for you.
Thank you very much. Explaining that the tab has to catch under the gray plastic was the part I was missing. faucet works great now.
Thanks glad it was useful for you
Thank you as well for this video! It was perfect. Supported my fix, cost me $29 for the part and saved me $350 for a high robbery plumber :-) ... Thanks!!!
Congrats on doing it yourself!
Thanks so much. A very detailed how-to repair video. BTW, Moen currently provides a free replacement kit(4 “O” rings and 2 plastic shields w/ lubricant) for the 1225 cartridge). No complete replacement, so don’t discard the old cartridge. FYI.
Good to know, ours were so old that it made sense to replace it with new. Plus it was free from Moen!!
Who did you contact to get the free replacement kit for the 1225 cartridge?
@@nawmean I went to Moen’s website and got the number from the contact page
This video was really helpful. I couldn't reassemble the faucet to get the lifting handle under the plastic ring until I watched you video. Simple but frustrating. Ours is also 20 years old but needed some lube, not the cartridge, yet.
Glad it was useful for you congrats on your repair
Excellent video. I could follow the instructions and the advice on how to get the cold/hot in the proper location.
That’s great!! I’m glad it was of use to you
Good job. Good Detail. Two suggestions. Make sure to suggest they turn off the water supply valves first. Also, a good idea to close the popup drain so you can't loose the screw or washer down the drain, into the trap below. Thanks.
Yeah those are good tips !!
Big help and couldn't have done it so easily without this!
Glad it could help you out!
Glad it helped! Congrats on your repair
Best use of video camera, great explanation. Convinced me to call a plumber!
Lol thanks for the kind words
I have the exact same facet, used a 1225 cartridge ( no 1225 b available) and it works perfectly now. Thks for the video 👍🏻
You know I bet a lot of their cartridges are interchangeable, good job on fixing it yourself!
1225 and 1225B are the same, B is for Bulk packaging.
Thanks for the video, helped a lot. Though my set screw looks like a security screw, was able to get it off. And I had to buy the puller they sell, no way that old cartridge was coming out with just vise grips. I have 3 more of the same faucets in my hose so will keep it for when they need replacement.
Glad it was helpful, these things can be a real bear sometimes
Thanks for the information! Got Cartridges Free! Didn’t know that! Again thank you 🙏!
Happy to help!

Great video, very well done. Only snag, I installed the cart the direction you did, and my hot and cold are reversed. I don't have time to go back into it, so, II will deal with it until I have time for a do-0ver.
Oh man that’s a bummer
the faucet kicked my butt today. cant wait for my rematch tomorrow. thanks for the intel
Lol don’t give up Victory is near
@@EveryBladeOfGrass1 issue: after reassembly. water comes from the tap even though it is the off position. where did i go wrong? i mean beside being a dummy
@@retiredluvit4100 you may have the holes at the bottom of the cartridge misaligned go to 11:30 or so in the vid to reference what that is hopefully that is all it is
@@EveryBladeOfGrass1 thanks. will make the adjustment
@@retiredluvit4100 good luck
Great info, helped a ton. Thanks.
Glad to hear it!
thanks your tips are the best and you are great
Thanks for the kind words
Very helpful video.
Thanks glad it was of use for you
Thanks a bunch bud, figured I would play plumber to make wifey happy and safe a bit of money. Your video of the same tap is a God send. Thanks a bunch
Glad it could be of some use for you. Hope the repair goes well!
@EveryBladeOfGrass1 ended your having to buy a new tap, after 15 yrs the cartridge was just to seized to come out. Spent 2 hrs fighting to remove it, till this man had to throw the towel in and admit defeat and buy a new one. Oh well try to save money and ended up spending more. Can't win them all. Anyway good video either way, take care and hope others have better luck than I did.
@@sheldonbueckert5477 hey be proud that you tried to do it most people don’t.
Brilliant. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Thank you
Yes .. thank you for this video !!! And be careful with the directions that come with the replacement cartridge !! ..I made the mistake of twisting the last piece of the disassembly before pulling the copper retaining pin !!!!
It looked like this was a necessary step when following the directions … it WASN’T !!!!!
Thanks for the warning sometimes the directions aren’t the best
Had problems reinserting pin into new cartridge. Turns out the black rubber off the bottom of the old cartridge tore off inside the faucet itself and prevented new cartridge from being fully seated. I pulled out bits of rubber and then the pin engaged. Whew. I’ll try to include a picture. Thanks for your help.
Glad you were able to get the problem solved, great job
Thank you for the video. A problem I can't resolve is that the lever keeps on going down on its own and turning off the water. It only stays up when all the way to the left for maximum hot water or all the way to the right. Have you seen this problem? And it has happened twice even when replacing all the interior elements.
Around 3:40 in the video I show a white plastic part , it could possibly be that it is broken?? Other than that not too sure. Hope it is of some help
Very good
Great video. Funny, I tried calling Moen here in Ontario, Canada in 2021 when Home Depot opened up again and I could not get through to any customer service at Moen. I hope things have changed since then.
My experience with them was great sorry it was different for you
I recently sent Moen a photograph of our tap and they sent me the cartridge...sad I had to wait for the pandemic to be over to get that...oh well. Thank you for your very helpful video...hubby and I got through it without a fight! ;)@@EveryBladeOfGrass1
Well, huge thanks to the video maker, I followed all the steps but I did not have the new cartridge...so, I cleaned up everything and when I put all back together the drip was gone! Luckily, my issue was lack of maintenance and some parts that were loose. And on top my wife now thinks I am a genius - my last home repair did not go too well; I needed this.
😂 glad it helped! A win is a win!
Thank you for this video. I completed the job and the drip is gone, but the cold water side is now barely above a trickle. Both valves under the sink are fully open so that is not the cause. Any thoughts on what the issue could be?
You may have the cartridge slightly misaligned go to approximately 11:45 in the vid to see the holes in the cartridge. You may need to twist it so that the bottom holes will align and let in the correct amount of water
Orientation of cartridge was great
Thanks I’m glad it was helpful
Thank you for your very clear, detailed instructions! Do you happen to know this faucet model name? I think my parents have the same model and I can't find the name of it.
No I don’t know the name but if you call Moen customer service they’ll be able to help you. I found them to be very helpful. While on the phone with them I was able to text pictures and get help. Good luck with your repair
Having difficulty reinserting the retainer clip. Can't line up through the white plastic piece and the faucet body. Any suggestions to align the retainer clip?
The only thing I can say is sometimes it can be a little fiddly to get the cartridge aligned correctly. You may need to twist the cartridge a little to the left, or to the right, so that the retaining clip will be able to line up again. Sorry you had difficulty. Hope this helps
I like how you explain details the clip is giving me a hard time to align.
Thanks, those clips can be tricky
Excellent, thank you for the vid. Moen sent the parts and I’ll get on the repair soon😎
Glad it was helpful for you, good luck on the repair
my issue is the center brass stem moves up and down about a 1/4 inch and i dont know why, any ideas?
The stem is supposed to move up and down that amount see 13:00 to see if we are talking about the same thing. If not I’m not sure
Any tips for getting the Philips screw out? Mine just twists, but won't come out
it sounds like it is stripped you may have to try to wedge something under the screw but that may be near impossible good luck
@@EveryBladeOfGrass1 Yeah. I gave up and replaced the whole thing. It's been there since the mid-90s, so it's had a good run. Thanks for the great video and response!
My plastic gray thing just keep spinning (after a lot of effort and CLR) but it is not lifting out. Any tips?
Mine might be different. The gray thing and that white part that sticks up in the top look like they are combined into one gray piece (no white part).
I’m not sure but if it just spins the threads may be stripped so that it “won’t move up” other than that I don’t know. You can call Moen I’ve found them to be very helpful, good luck
I'm trying to take the Phillips screw out, but it's just spinning. Any ideas?
You may have to use a small putty knife to wedge under the screw head and pry up as you unscrew it
Do you need to shut off the water to do this?
Yes you do
Thank you man !! 2 more to go 😅
Nice glad it could be of some use
Great video better than Moen's
Thanks for the kind words
What model faucet is that?
That I don’t know
What’s the part name of 18:17
Im not sure what it is called sorry
For those who have dark grey you don’t have to pull out it stays in
all the details
Thanks
You forgot to say is, FIRST you turn off the water.
Lol that’s what is called a teachable moment
Just turn off the angle stop
Save me money.
Nicely done
What if u don't have that white cap tool thing that loosens the cartridge? I've been trying to pry this thing out
You could probably use some pliers. You also may be able to get that little cap at Home Depot or Lowe’s
Excellent tutorial!
Thank you for the kind words!
