Also with the update, its actually better to change the resolution on side quest while wearing the headset instead of pressing the power when you're in the home environment now; else you get this weird square effect

Thx for mentioning the headset needs to be “slept” to activate changes, I forgot about that. Best texture res depends on the game. For fast-paced shooters with lots of polys like *Population One* - 2048 gets a pretty slow frame rate (distractingly bad). 2560 is unplayable. Try 1536 texture
I've never seen any resolution change between like the 6 methods I've tried. It always looks great on the loading screen and crap on the sample Unreal environments.
I wouldn't recommend EVERY time you are finished. Just after you think you won't be playing over the next couple days. It's not going to auto deplete from 50% to 0% in 2 days. Just be smart about playing it, just as you would with your phone
Do you still use this feature on your OQ2, or it was just an experiment? Did you include something from SIDEQUEST into your headset, or do you use only preinstalled features only to avoid possible unwanted issues?
Download side quest on your Android and plug in USBC cable from your phone to your quest and make sure that OTG is on but first and foremost you have to have developer options turned on on your quest
@@Senjutsu1 go to the Oculus software on your pc, or go to the Oculus (Meta) companion app and go to menu > devices > scroll down to the bottom > dev mode > switch it on > put on your Quest 2 headset then go to your settings > dev mode > guardian > switch off > accept the warning. And there you go, you now have turned off your guardian 👏 👏 👏 👏

Hi everyone, I'm new into the Quest2 world. Is there a way (a tool?) to check what settings are activated on the Quest2? Since the settings reset at every reboot, and let's say your Q2 reboots and you don't notice, that'd be great to have the possibility to check and eventually repatch if necessary. I have set up SideQuest on my PC after running the developer app, and connected it with the correct cable to my oculus quest 2. I have allowed the data connection on the headset and clicked the on off button after I have made changes on the SideQuest. The connection has been made between the two as shown by the green tab at the top of the page. Primarily I wish to increase resolution. On the headset nothing is shown under ‘unknown sources’ which may account for the resolution not being changed. Any ideas please?
the reason it’s not showing under “unknown sources” is because you don’t have side quest installed on the headset itself. you can find plenty of tutorials explaining how to do so.

I changed the texture setting all the way up and it looks amazing but the framerate dropped alot so I wanna turn it down a bit but its not letting me change it again,got any tips dimond?or any body else.
Not tried adjusting anything myself yet but.. Didn't he say the quest rests all these settings after a full power down? Hold the side poers button for about 10 seconds. You'll see it say powering off/down. Hope that works for you.

I tried my Quest with pcvr and games like Half-Life: Alyx look pretty nice on my Quest while other games look kind of washed out, not very clear (with cable or without). SOMEBODY help this is pissing me off, every single time I press literally anything to change it, theres no difference , im sleeping it, un sleeping and nothing is different at all, its the same resolution regardless of what I press
The headset itself has all the hardware needed to run the given option choice selections. The why and how it affects games and what do to apply the settings to all games, well sad to say, it depends on the game title itself. If the game was designed specifically for the default resolution, it will not run well with the added performance boosts because the game wasn't coded and built to optimally run on such given boosted settings.

I have also run SideQuest on my PC and connected via the bespoken cable and tried to improve the resolution etc, but again to no avail. It’s normal, if you increase the resolution, the quest use more power. That’s why you should put Gpu on lvl 4 and use the 2048 resolutions. (Some games support 3000 of resolution with a great framerate like gorilla tag but it’s really rare)
Oftentimes it's a better idea to actually turn down the framerate whenever you're having performance issues, if you don't want to sacrifice the higher screen resolution. The same applies when trying to find a good performance/visual balance in regular pc games as well. A system that struggles very hard to go above 80fps is going to lag much worse when aimed at 90 than it would when aimed at 72, for example.
For the resolution, do I need do do it every time I power on my Quest, as I don't really see a difference, or should I keep my Quest 2 plugged in to my Mac at all times? Thanks for the great video :)

This video is basically, Do you want better graphics but you get crap framerate Do you want better Framerate but you get crap Graphics Do you want to use default setting which is a healthy balance between the two, if so don't follow this video's advice and just use the default Quest. If you want better you need better hardware like the Valve Index
The valve index isn't a standalone headset, it needs a PC. Of course if you use your quest 2 in stand alone mode with higher resolution it's gonna lag, but when playing PCVR games this may be useful as someone with a good pc can run at higher resolutions than the default quest.
@@iulic9833 I know, technically quest is the only standalone headset but this video requires a PC for the quest to do this so that does not matter in this instance. I play PC VR games on my quest already like half life and Pavlov and although it's not perfect I see no reason to change the default settings as it would effect performace somewhere else.
@@staticbuilds7613 I agree on newer titles this isn't needed, but for example, changing the resolution really helped me when playing Skyrim VR, even after installing mods said to increase the clarity of the image, anything more than 5 feet away still seemed rather blurry. The only solution I found is to just render the game at a higher resolution.

Yes. The higher you go with resolution and things like that, the lower your battery life is. You can get an external battery pack to help with that though.
My quest straight up will not show up like it won't link to this. I've got the Oculus link set up and everything. Nothing. I really wish I could use this but it just doesn't work for mine
You dont power it down completely, just press the side button once to put it on 'Sleep' mode, and once to wake it back up, don't hold the power button though, just press it.

Are you saying that when you make changes to the resolution, you don't need to press the button anymore? And if you do, it'll cause issues?

Make sure to change your CPU/gpu level to 2 or 4 so you can run 2048 smoothly (depends on your hardware)

If you don't want the Quest 2's lithium battery to slowly drain when not in use - you should shut down the headset every time you finish playing.

You can do all of this now on your phone with the charging cable the quest came in. For those who don't want to use or have a PC.

When i change texture size and put on the headset i can only see 1/4 of the screen and everything around is cut out (black). Any ideas how to fix it ?
