  • Hello! My name is Karibella; I am a world traveler and passionate singer!
While traveling in Italy with my family and friends, I taught my siblings (‪@111Continents‬, ‪@YouthfulNomadNarratives‬, @BWphotography) and friends the harmony part of Shchedryk.
Shchedryk is a Ukrainian New Year's song written by Mykola Leontovych in 1916. The tune may remind you of Carol of the Bells, a popular Christmas carol written by Peter Wilhousky in 1936. Peter Wilhousky based Carol of the Bells off of Shchedryk after he heard it performed in Carnegie Hall in 1922. The lyrics of Shchedryk and the carol of the bells are completely unrelated, but the tune is the same.
One day I was singing Shchedryk for fun and my siblings and friends joined in with the harmony. I am the only one who knows the words in Ukrainian, but most of my friends and siblings know the lyrics of the Carol of the Bells so they were able to partially get the harmony right. During our time in Rome, I taught them all a simplified harmony, and we practiced it many times. While we were visiting the Borghese museum, we sang it together in the gardens and got an amazing video! We hope you enjoy Shchedryk!
(BTW Our group name is WD-40 not in reference to the cleaning oil but it is a shortened version of our names and the number helps add a nice ring to it.)
