Great info - I have a portable duel fuel generator that I only run using propane. I have a inlet on the outside of my house near my panel and and interlocked breaker so it powers the whole house. It isn't automatic but all I need to do is wheel it out there and plug it in. When I lived in an apartment I had a gasoline inverter generator and it was super quiet so not to bug my neighbors.

Nice.. i have a very similar setup and i mainly plan to run it on propane but i have a couple of 5g gas cans with stabill in case of extended outage like what happened in texas on 2021 snowmageddon

I lived in Dallas for 20 years, and I remember losing power a handful of times every year, sometimes for no apparent reason. I’m in Philadelphia now and it’s usually from a storm taking down powerlines because we have a lot of areas with overhead lines still
I have installed a Hydros Kraken with a pair of 12 V deep cycle, boat, batteries, if the power goes out certain pumps immediately go into power mode and keeps things running up to a day. I need to look into a portable generator for instances that are longer.

Hi Marc, I have a Genrac whole house generator. I have it set up to run 5 minuets a week to keep it from from just sitting up. They say to do a twice a year preventive maintenance, but I only do it once a year. Living on the Space Coast of Florida, I would not buy a house without natural gas because of hurricanes.

Thank me later folks, it's a device that allows you to hook up a DC power source from a wave maker, to a battery that remains on charge in the event of an outage the device switches to the battery source to run the wave maker. One deep cycle would run wave makers for a while. Multiple deep cycles would do heaters to.

That’s not what this topic was about. Yes, solar charging and a battery array is another option. I just wanted to show how I run my setup.

@@melevsreef I understand and appreciate that. Still would recommend looking into solar if possible. Not only for backup but for great savings in the long run. Solar and reef tanks are a perfect match. Keep reefing. 👍
