    Is 1987 the BEST year in movie history? Come with me as I bring you my top 25 movies from the year and see how they might stack up to the other years in this series so, pop that tape in, I got you, let's go do this!

    THANK YOU for mentioning Adventures in Babysitting!! Last year I tried to show my girlfriend that movie for the first time, and we started watching it on Disney Plus and I immediately stopped it. There's no way we're watching that movie censored. So I had to go find it on digital to buy, now I own it on DVD and VHS, but I'm still looking for a good version of it, I'll probably grab that bluray you've got. And now I need to go find your old video about it!

      @@AVAPopCulture I’m curious to know what they censored. I’d go out of my way to categorize this movie as a family comedy. Oh, Raising Arizona was another great film from 1987…my favorite Cage movie!

      Disney plus have censored a lot of movies and TV Series, and is one of the reasons i refuse to sub to it.
      Everything is available uncensored on DVD and Blu-Ray.

    Despite the obvious issues with Masters Of The Universe, there are a few reasons i love it. I collected the He Man figures as a kid, i had them all (except Ram Man, i boight him later as an adult as a symboluc gesture lol). The Christmas around it's release i got the new figures from the film as presens: Gwildor. Blade, and Saurod. Also, this was the final film i saw at the cinema as a kid, i was 7 or 8, i've only been to the cinema twice since then with my ex-gf in the 2010's (to see The Dictator, and Contagion).

    Strange how many movies from this year I didn't see. Probably because there were so many. Also a lot of them that I did see I had completely forgotten about. These videos are always such a great trip through my memories of childhood.
    I also can't watch Robin's films now. I know he'd want people to continue getting joy from them but I just can't do it. One that I especially loved was What Dreams May Come and I know if I watched it again it'd break me.
    The Lost Boys is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's quintessential 80s coolness without the cheesiness that so many movies had then (not that there's anything wrong with 80s cheese lol).

    Well, culture relevance is kind of a two-edged sword, isn't it? Of course, more modern movies are going to be more culturally relevant. But that wouldn't necessarily mean that the movies themselves are better or worse, just more familiar to the modern audience, wouldn't you say?
    I was fortunate to find a blu ray of Near Dark a couple of months ago, rotating into our local Half Price Books store. We love the movie. Definitely a great film. Regarding The Monster Squad, i saw it as a kid in about 1990 when i was about 10. I really liked it, it appealed because i was a weird kid who loved horror from the age of 5, in particular, Halloween films, The Omen films, and of course Hammer's Christopher Lee Dracula films which is why i liked this. For some reason it got taped over so i only re-watched it about a year ago, i still enjoyed it, but in that 30+ years, just to me personally it didn't feel the same. I bought the 4K addition of Evil Dead Groovy Collection big box set when it was on sale for 50 percent off on Amazon for $44.00, which was a great deal. It's now listed for over $250.00. Then, I bought the Scream Factory 4K collectors addition of the Army of Darkness and put it in to complete all the best Evil Dead movies.

    • @sethm.woodiwiss786
      @sethm.woodiwiss786 11 днів тому

      @AVAPopCulture
      It's great! I'm sure you can see everything that comes with it, but what you can't see is how big the booklet is, or should I say novel..... It's also got the whole Evil Dead series in it on bluray, which is also great. The only thing missing is Army of Darkness 4K because of studio rights. I guess my only gripe is that the bonus disk is the same old standard definition DVD that came with the 1st Evil Dead Bluray from years ago. They could've upgraded most of that bonus disk to HD. I am pretty sure Lionsgate just makes so many each year and sells so many sets because I saw it last year about this time for hundreds of dollars at after market prices, then sometime around the holidays they were on Amazon for $88.00. I think that's the normal price, but like I said, I waited for the 50% off deal and got it for $44.00. Even at $88.00 it's a steal, you get that huge "novel" of a booklet, two 4K and 2 Bluray copies of the 1st & 2nd movies and then the entire series on bluray plus the bonus DVD disk, which does have alot of great extras on it just wish they were in HD. So, hopefully, they will have it again soon for at least regular retail price.

I think once you pass Wizard of Oz, GOne With the Wind, Mr SMith Goes to Washington and a few others, there are very few that stand the test of time or are part, or have been part of the collecive consciousness and pop culture to have staying power, and that plays a huge role in it...it is powerful at the top though

I agree that most moviegoers today probably won't appreciate these titles, but my goodness, this is an amazing crop of all-time quality cinema. I was 12; Can't Buy Me Love may have been the first movie I ever saw in the theater without adult supervision. Amanda Peterson was stunning, what a sad and unfotunate loss. I had no idea about the Adventures In Babysitting situation. I will never subscribe to Disney+ and make it a point to buy any of their films I want from second hand sources for this very reason. I also have only the 2 disc special edition DVD of Predator, which I am happy to have kept as I had heard it was considered superior to the first Bluray edition, for some reason.
