Great film, and I enjoy how it frightens us without showing too much. It lets the viewer's imagination run rampant. King's _Rose Red_ miniseries owes a lot to that film and novel--- it is clearly an homage to the Shirley Jackson story in some ways.

Dead and Buried is amazing. Absolutely LOVE that flick. Of course, any horror film set in a seaside town where the director knows how to let things linger and vibe and create a spooky atmosphere, I'm going to be a big fan. Ti West is having a well-deserved resurgence but I've been watching his stuff since The Roost which I randomly found when I was in film school. House of the Devil is badass and I would say has some cool atmosphere but I remember The Innkeepers being moreso. That said, I'm not sure I'd put any of his stuff on a top 10 atmospheric horror list. This is a fantastic topic and one of my favorite aspects of horror, building and creating a super moody atmosphere that oozes off the screen that the audience can literally feel, that seeps into the marrow and stays with you. I'd highly recommend 1973's Messiah of Evil. 2022's OffSeason was really rad and had some cool atmosphere. I might need to save this topic for a future vid! Awesome! 👻

I'm sure there's some creepy town movie I love that I've forgetting but for the life of me I can't think of one to add that you haven't already covered. I do agree with some of your thoughts and feel it felt more late 70s, possibly 1980 or 81 but i thought Ti West captured that time well. I was completely immersed in that film from start to finish. The Tom Savini remake of Night of the Living Dead is definitely one that falls in this category. It's because of the atmosphere of a isolated rural community that makes it so great and it's my personal favorite of any of the films that wasn't made by Romero but exceeds his orginal vision.
