Thai Mango Sticky Rice, known as Khao Niew Mamuang in Thai, is a beloved traditional Thai dessert that beautifully blends sweet, creamy, and tropical flavors. Made from sticky glutinous rice, rich coconut milk, and fresh ripe mangoes, this dish offers a perfect balance of textures-soft, chewy rice paired with juicy, fragrant mango. Typically enjoyed during mango season in Thailand, it’s a popular street food treat and a favorite dessert served at Thai restaurants worldwide. The simplicity of ingredients and harmony of flavors make Thai Mango Sticky Rice a delightful and refreshing end to any meal.
INGREDIENTS :
1-2 cup sticky rice (glutinous rice)
1 ½ cups coconut milk
2-3 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 ripe mangoes, peeled and sliced
INSTRUCTIONS :
*1. Prepare the sticky rice:
Soak the sticky rice in water for at least 1-2 Hours.
Drain the soaked rice and steam it for 10-15 minutes until it becomes soft and sticky.
*2. Make the coconut sauce:
While the rice is steaming, heat the coconut milk in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Stir in the sugar and salt, and cook until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
*3. Combine the rice and sauce:
Once the sticky rice is done, transfer it to a bowl and pour about ¾ of the coconut sauce over it. Mix well, and let the rice absorb the coconut sauce for about 5-10 minutes.
*4. Assemble the dish:
Serve the sticky rice with slices of ripe mango on the side.
Drizzle the remaining coconut sauce on top of the rice.
