I understand that younger birds can bond more easily with a human, but we shouldn't overlook older birds either! Animals of any age can grow to trust us with time, patience and most importantly love.

Yup! We got a bird that was 6 years old, been caged all its life, and never let its previous owner touch/ get near it. Within a month, he was getting head scratches and eating from my hand.
Sometimes,when I am eating something that my bird can’t have,my parrot would kinda stare at me and I would feel sad it ain’t getting any but then I would just cut up a fruit and give it to my parrot ❤️❤️❤️💕💕And all the tips are very useful that I try to follow🥰🥰

My grandma has a bird and she left it with us for 2 weeks when she went on a holiday. Every morning when I woke up I opened its cage and talked to it a lot. I even fed it with some snacks.Even before that we had a lovey dovey relationship -like it would get very excited when i came or even hear someone say my name and allowed me to pet him after his baths. But this 2 weeks it started to jump to my shoulders and let me kiss it. It even played games with me. I also convinced it to take baths even though it hates them. I showed him the mirrors and taught him not to touch them. My grandma told me I could keep it with me but I had to refuse because it made me itch a lot. I still try to see it as much as I can.

My budgie that I’ve had for about 4 years has never trusted anything, she’s been through a lot so I have to respect that, I try to build a bond with her but she’s not very agreeable to say the least. I’ve gotten her to the point where she comes out of her cage on her own and flys around my room :) she’s very skittish but we’re making progress! She’s had two friends in the past, one flew away because my little brother hooked the food door open and we put the cage on the porch outside not knowing and he flew away, and the other dyed and we still don’t know why :(
Those things happen. It's good to learn from those mistakes.
Your current bird might not ever be what you hoped. The trick is to love it for what it is, and as you said, respect his need to feel safe.

@@lesmiserables8215 we never changed the water or food outside we also always made sure the doors were closed well. My dad was just tired that one day and forgot to check the doors

I've had a lot of budgies in my life, but I've only bond with 3 of them: Tico Tico, Lily and Kiwi. Tico Tico was my first pet and with him I learned how to take proper care of a pet. When Tico Tico died a lot of years after getting him, Lily was given to me as a surprise. She was very lovely and affectionate: I shared food with her, spent time with her every day... We spent a lot of time together because when she would see me, Lily would fly to me. She also often took naps on top of me!! The day she passed was one of the hardest days of my life. Some time later, an acquaintance gave us a pair of budgerigars as a gift. They were supposed to be male and female, but turned out to be 2 females: Maki and Kiwi. Maki HATES being held. Despite trying to bond with her, I have never been able to. But Kiwi is different. She likes to be held and asks for food whenever I'm eating, as if I were her mother, but she also hates a lot being touched or groomed. It's ok for her when other bird does it (we had 2 other budgies) but when I try to do it she turns away and bites me and I don't really know if I'm doing something wrong or her personality is simply like that :( I don't have toys for the sisters because they get really scared with objects they do not know. Kiwi is a bit more brave, but Maki gets very stressed very easily, and that's why I don't try to bond with her anymore. I don't know if I'm doing the right thing or not, and it worries me, but your videos are helping me a lot!! I'll try some of your tips soon!

I came looking for advice only to discover I'm doing all this already. It's all excellent advice spoken by a person who truly loves his little friends. I will say this, if you want to use your "flock time" to teach your budgie to speak, it works better with one or two birds rather than a larger number. I am jealous of the scritches he can give but I know that where I don't get that, I get a bird that tells me "good night".

My secret formula for my little one is cloth. I hold any type of cloth in my hand, and she'll fly to me to play with it. She loves my scrunchie and comes on my head to bite it all the time! 😂

When we took my budgie and its eggs too the bird shop yesterday, the doctor told the eggs will hatch day after tomorrow.. the budgie is sitting on the eggs from 16 days! so the 5 eggs will hatch tomorrow! thanks for uploading this video, this will help me to tame the baby budgies! please heart this comment!😊😊😊😀

@@brightstudio973 Tonight makes 4 weeks with them and I’m very pleased with how things are continuing to progress. My Smokey is pretty much tamed and Blue is showing progress but not as tame as Smokey. They’re very happy little birds and both chirp and chatter with me. They’ve really settled in quite nicely.

I have to say thank you .One of my 2 budgies flew out the window today. Had cut through the screen. I think he was outside for a few hours.. I ran outside of my apartment building calling his name, Rico. I remembered your suggestion to use a high pitched voice and used it. He showed up. I think he was scared and glad to see me. I had a cotton bag which I tossed over him and gently walked him through the corridors and back to our home. I've only had the 2 birds for 3 months and their wings are clipped so he was defenseless. Their wings are growing. and I have attempted to feed them grains and vegetables. But when we returned home I treated both my budgies to a spoonful of seed and a millet spray. They are exhausted. Thank you for the tip to speak in a high pitch voice. I believe it made a difference.

I had cockatiels, lovebirds and parakeets and they loved me, I used to open the cages one at a time, and let them fly free. They would stand on my shoulder, over my head, or they climbed up my clothes to my shoulder; they liked to stand on the curtain rails in the kitchen, or they would go down to bathe in a bowl with water that was placed on the floor. The years that I enjoyed your company were beautiful, thank God
one year ago i bought my 2 budgies who were both very skittish.... i thot it was impossible for them to love me ,they ll just see me as a provider n dats it..coz they would hop on me if only i had food to offer... but yes, it took one whole year for them to finaly love me n trust me.... i totatly feel their love with or without food, no joke.... they would hop on me now play with me.... wenever i go near them n talk to them they start chirping louder, play and dance...they now crave for my attention... it feels so nice to feel needed by ur pets, n not just for food but for love...

Ik this video is about something else but when u give love u will know how to accept love too! I had 2 cockatiels that were in LOVE and I was in love with him too! but my male got something stuck in his nose and couldn't breath and passed away at the vet. It was so hard for me and my other little baby so she got extremely depressed and also got sick but now this video has helped me so much giving me the ability to give SO MUCH LOVE and she is so much better now and recovering, I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping my bird to know how to be happy again.❤

Haha i remember the time i was drinking ice water and my budgie wanted to try it too because he kept reaching his head into my cup so i gave him a piece of ice and now he loves getting a fresh ice cube in his water container every morning

First tip actually works. I replaced my parrot's cage into my room. She was hesitant at first, but now she lets me to scratch her.

I want to mention this real quick, sharing food with your bird can be quite dangerous for it. There is a bacteria in human saliva that can kill your bird. I was told years ago by a Vet never let your bird come in contact with your saliva such as kissing it with moistened lips. ❤️

This is going to sound ridiculous and perhaps far fetched but I have a budgie whose trust I have gained and she follows me in to the shower! In the past she liked to jump on my head until she discovered that she can't fly with waterlogged feathers too well. Now she likes to sit on top of the shower door getting the spray that bounces off my head and I stand on my tiptoes to accommodate this. Yes it is true and I'm a grown ass man. I've tried buying a little bird bath but she hasn't show much interest in it.
My bird died young but he was alway always happy he was my best friend❤️rip am few months ago) he gave me kisses all the time and we shared food!

I don't know if anyone will see this, but I need help,
About a month and a half ago I received a rescued rainbow budgie, he is very young and gentle, but after trying everything he does not come out of the cage on his own, I have to gently pick him up and move him while I clean, he tries to fly away and freaks out. but once he is out he will sit on my shoulder happy and beak grinding, but he always resist getting out. I've tried using food such as millet and fruit but he won't eat it unless I practically put it in his mouth...
Any suggestions?
I really want my Lil guy to be happy and having him out of the cage would be the best thing I feel
i trained my two younger ones using pixel. pixel is our most tame budgie. he always hops on my hand (and head) whenever he likes and when i open the cage to let them out. every morning and late evening when going to bed , i gave him a slight smooch to the belly to the point of him comming and wanting smooches XD Pedro noticed hands arent danger and also came on my hand when in front of him. he doesnt like smooches tho. jackie however always wants smooches. and she starts nibbling on my nose too.
sadly im about to give up with moxxie. hes not only super jumpy for no reason , he also bites for no reason. like he flies to my hand only to bite me and then flies away again. to the point that i cant trust him. i tried so much to get him to stop but nothing worked

How do i convince my parents to buy a bigger cage for my bird as well as having toys inside the cage and outside the cage
Try explaining that no one wants to live in a small and crowded place, without nothing to do as well.
A big cage and toys are a necessary part of raising a parrot.
We have a 10 year old budgie that I grew up with since I was 6 and we never tamed it. Is it still possible for me to tame it?

I call my budgies things like "beans" and "chickens", too. Also "screaming monkey pigs". "Sky lobsters". "Flying taters". You get the idea...Anyway, they are pretty tame and happy, but they don't let me snuggle or pet them. Lol maybe they are a little sensitive about the name-calling?

Can anyone please recommend me how much vegetables and green/herbs can be offered to budgies what should be the portions and which are safe.
Shouldn't they be fed more greens or vegetables what is the exact amount?
you should cut them into very small pieces, like VERY small, because they can only nibble & like small portions, with the left overs you can store them in a bag & leave them in the fridge for the next time you feed them

Sharing food is still good advice though, as eating together is a social activity. Often my birds will perch on my hand and I'll turn my food around to ensure they eat from a nonbitten side, or I'll stick a cut-off piece of food in my mouth so that enough juts out and they can eat from that.

one of my budgies landed on my finger for the first time today while i was feeding it millet. I was so surprised and how light and warm he was. I love them so much. They are still a little afraid and unsure of me 😅 but today was soo sweet 🤍

I found one of my favorite youtube channels because of a budgie exhibit at a zoo
a lot of things in this vid i already learned, but some are very surprising. Thanks for this! My bird wont leave me alone now, and i dont even need my alarm clock for school anymore XD
I love my two Conure parrots. They wear flight-suits with diaper in them. They even help put it on the morning. They are out of their cage all day, playing with each other and me. One bird, Tilley, a yellow-sided Conure, throws kisses by saying the words, “kiss, kiss,” while making kissing sounds. She wakes me up every day with a series of theses kisses and words. Daisy, is a pineapple Conure and she gives me kisses whenever I ask. She places her beak on my lips very gently. In the morning and before returning to the cage in the evening, they both give me lots of hugs and kisses. My birds taught themselves to go potty in the morning in the garbage can when I hold them over it. Lately, when I get them ready for bed by cleaning up the cage and removing all the empty shells from food they come for sunflower seeds from me. They started this themselves. They love when I sing lullabies to them before bed. Birds are amazing. All animals are. They are Divine, Intelligent Sentient Beings.
