mazda uses the spark plug to increase the pressure and temperature to the surrounding A/F mixture, so that it will reach it's self ignition point and then ignite at the same time. so the spark is just used to initiate the compression ignition proces.
Is exactly the power comes only from the socket ...;) The internal combustion engine will be with us for several decades, so the way of mazda is only logical.
totszwai agree thought the whole point was to use its existing combustion to re ignite. Hence only needing one spark to start and no spark plug to continue the process.
It is indeed very impressive what Mazda has done with the Skyactiv technology, but I wish Mazda had focused their resources and expertise in developing pure electric drive instead. Fossil fuel is so last century, and its days are numbered. I have been a big fan of Mazda for many years, and I have owned five Mazda vehicles. I am planning to purchase a pure electric car in two or three years. It doesn't look like Mazda will make it on my list. That's unfortunate. I would buy a pure electric RX-9 in a heart beat.
Great Job Mazda! This is the right way! Greating from germany
They didn't released it in north america which is unfortunate
so.... it's just a higher compression gas engine? or what am i missing here... it still has a spark plug, so it's not compression ignition?

That's no compression ignition... is the same old spark plug ignition. You are just doing it differently...
