Saw your video/tribute to him and the Omniyou gifted to him previously!! We are equal in age so all of that watched Voyagers you did us all proud!! Love your new design! Big LIKE!! Also, love your "Drake" silver Omni!
Thank so much, and thanks for watching! It'll be interesting to see how the new design comes together too. I thought the Drake Omni turned out well as a painted piece. It would be very expensive to try to make one out of silver so I tried lots of different methods to make one at a reasonable cost. If you look at the original Drake Omni used in the show you will see that it was painted as well. There were 2 versions in the show, one that was shiny like a chrome finish, and another that was a matte finish. I was able to reproduce the chrome finish using Molotow Liquid Chrome which is probably similar to what the propmakers used. The problem is you can't handle it so it would only be good as a model, but I also covered it with epoxy to protect it which worked ok but diminished the finish. The one in the video is the best matte finish I could find which was a bit shiny (Duplicolor Chrome). It was certainly great interviewing Meeno and hearing his reminiscences of Voyagers! and being able to get him an Omni. It was great growing up and watching Jeffrey Jones, being the same age (and same as you too). Amazing that he admired and respected Jon-Erik Hexum so much and that they got along so well, and that is the chemistry that was off-screen and on-screen that helped make the show so great.
Thank you for commenting, and thanks for watching! I don't build these for sale, just as a hobby, as it is an expensive and time-consuming build. Especially since I live in Canada and have to deal with large duties and taxes for everything coming across the border. You might want to look up replicaprops, I think he's working on a version for sale. Etsy also has a couple of resin ones for sale, one with brass dials. I recommend people build their own as well. I've even built a couple of Omnis using sheet metal, which can be used for the body, or it can be modeled on Tinkercad. The dome would have to be made on Tinkercad but it's not too difficult to 3d model that.

Canscify... Your skill is amazing. Any chance I can convince you to finally build me one?
