You've just saved me from major reside problems! I was washing my baby dreadlocks with bar soap the wrong way. Thankfully, they've only had three washes. So glad you're back BTW!
I actually have better experience with using a bar soap on my dreadlocks than with using a liquid shampoo...I feel like almost all the liquid shampoos leave a light film on my hair and I don't like using too much product...I've never had problems with residues after using a bar soap :) for me it's a better choice...mine is with extracts from oyster mushroom and hemp oil :D anyway thanks for the video :) I like your channel!
Late tip, cut off a little bit of the bar soap (experiment until you know how much you have to cut off for one wash) then you just do that everytime without having to worry abput it being to much, hope it helped someone
Thanks for this video!! I have always used bars. I use a Dollylocks liquid one about every second or third wash just to make them soft, but I have always used a bar in my routine. Glad to see your videos coming back.
QUESTION: so when washing, is it more about washing the scalp and less about the length of the locs? I’m struggling to understand how a teaspoon is suppose to clean all the locs
My head never felt clean the first year of dreads. It didn't matter if it was liquid or bar. It always felt like "there was some yuck left." Then I met the shampooey side of b.s! And I finally felt clean again. So i use whatever soap I have lying around when I miss bubbles and B.S most of the time. ( I hope you are feeling better.I also hope you come back, we will really miss you.)
Is there a liquid shampoo that I can buy that's dread friendly as well as no plastic bottle? I buy bar soaps only because I can get them with no plastic packaging
Been using black soap bars for awhile. Been doing it the way you said, before seeing this video. Best soap I've ever used. My dreads feel squeaky clean.
Love all your videos. so happy your still making them. I'd love it if you did a video on maturing dreadlock ends. I've went the mostly natural route and I'm finding the bottoms of some are turning into large ball/paddle shape. wondering if you had tips/advice/ is it normal? also they're thin above the "paddle" and worried they may break. thxx
i was my dreads almost never as having wet dreads is not fun, but i use a bar from dollylocks and i scrub my scalp and dreads with the bar and i have never experienced any residue, could be the massive gaps of time between washes idk but i scrub for LONG time. i do however highly recommend the tightening spray by dolly locks. the spray makes them feel better than any wash in my opinion.
I don't have dreads but do have experience of solid shampoos and the general rule is, the more natural the soap, the more residue it leaves in the hair, so you have to use things like bicarbonate of soda or apple cider vinegar to remove the fats left in the hair. Lush do a solid shampoo which is great, they have good ethics but they still use toxic chemicals like SLS which is a surfactant that helps to rinse the product out of the hair. No residue but SLS is a known carcinogen and neurotoxin.
Hello, First off I would like to thank you for spending the time to make so many informative videos for all of us. I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. I am wondering if you have any experience or knowledge of using goat milk soap with dreads. I have made homemade soap before and now I have goats so I am wanting to make some goat milk soap. I have heard so many great reviews of the attributes of using goat milk soap on skin but I can't seem to find any info pertaining to specifically using it on dreads. Can you help?
QUESTION! SO... I just got my first dread a week ago, you could say this is a test run for when i get the rest of my dreads. I used the rip and twist method but did not use a crochet hook after, i palmed rolled it a few times and still do now and then. I have a feeling it feels somewhat like a tight messy fuzzy braid... maybe? idk but it has alot of fuzzy hairs around and i was wondering if thats loose hair im supposed to crochet back into the dread. Also, im dying to put beads in my hair but the fuzzy hairs wont let it, the hairs get pushed up and creates a ball in the middle of the dread so is it too early to put them in? Is that normal for the maturing process?
+Xaymarie Torres if your 'dread' is only a week old then it's basically just a strand of tangly hair and not really a dread yet. baby dreads are really fuzzy and messy and they will stay like that for at least a few months. just give it the time to mature and then try to put beads on it. hope this helped :)
Hey guys here’s a tip I do: take your bar soap and lather it with a cloth like you would normally do in shower. Then squeeze the cloth directly onto your crown. It works great for me.
i had to chop all my beautiful drealocks off due to dread rot. probably one of the saddest moments of life. after watching this video, i realize i was doing A LOT wrong. can't wait for round 2 dreads and going to do them right!
Question: I was watching your super deep clean video and was wondering do you have to use the essential oils or will the soak do the same thing just using the bicarb, lemon juice and acv?
hey..i saw in another dread youtube channel girl she is washing her dreads with h&s shapoo..but just making foam and put it on her all dreads...is that recomended? cause people always saying buy natural shapoo..thanks and answer mee
+vane ponce castro You don't necessarily need an all natural shampoo, but you do need something that will effectively rinse out from within the dreadlocks. Head & Shoulders is not one that I've personally had a positive experience with.
Ill be getting my dreads next month!! I have a massive question where research hasnt gotten me anywhere, I suffer from dandruff alot and i have to use a special l shampoo that helps, which is the lush bar shampoo that smells like a bomb fire, it helps with my condition. would you recommend that? or anything else i can use?
Nice to see you still uploading, I'm hoping to get dreadlocks in the future as my hair is to short and my school would probably not allow it ha. In yr11 anyways so be leaving soon but yeah, your channel is really helpful and I'm sure I will come back to all your vids if I get dreads
First of all, i have to say you are adorable! Anyway, I just turned 42 and got dreadlocks for the first time. I have partial dreads, 9 so far, more to come. I have been watching your videos for months now and have found them very helpful and informative. I know you frown on wax, understandably so, but how do you feel about dollylocks pomaide? Do you (or anyone reading this) have any experience with this product? Any info would be helpful. Thanks
The Dollylocks Pomade is beeswax free, designed specifically for dreadlocks and is residue free. You can see for yourself if you put a little on your hand, and then run your hand under warm water, you will find it rinses away. It is not intended to help with the locking process of young/new dreadlocks. We only recommend this product for mature dreadlocks. It helps with flyaways and to keep updo styles looking tidy. If you have any questions about our product line, please don't hesitate to send us an email at sales@dollylocks.com
Lazy Dreads makes sense, I just started dreads. What soap would you recommend for straight hair dreads? Maybe something that would leave my hair dry after? Idk I’m new to this bro, love your vids btw, very informative! 👏
.. You just saved a life today, thank you

Agree bar shampoo makes me hair feel better I’m just starting with dread locs but I have 4c hair so liquid doesn’t help
Nice timing and video! Just bought bar soap for dreadlocks and I was rubbing it , no more!
+Ampelious Same here! So glad he posted this video now!
Need to know bruh

Yay! You're back! Thanks for the info, I use either bar or liquid, just depends on if I'm traveling or not; so far, so good, thanks for the info :)
I actually called dolly locks and they specifically said to apply it to the scalp directly
Your channel has helped me out soo much with my dreads thank you

Glad you're back!
Thank you for uploading this - I must have used excessively much bar soap for years!
Can you use washing up liquid to remove access conditioning oil from dreadlocks?
This was extremely helpful. Much appreciated!
you would think a person would know just to lather up in your hand
Beware of bar soap overdose! ;)
Been using black soap bars for awhile. Been doing it the way you said, before seeing this video. Best soap I've ever used. My dreads feel squeaky clean.
+sicNtwstdF curious.. which brand of black soap do you use? I'm looking for a good vegan black soap bar for my locks atm :)
+expandingstar Atlsmellsgood. it's on etsy & Amazon
+expandingstar but recently switched to DreadHeadHQ. does a way better job than the black soap. DreadHeadHQ leaves behind absolutely no residue
i think if you have hard water and that's why you have a residue then i think using a shampoo bars gives you a headache of filmy residue

why would someone rub the soap directly onto their dreads/scalp? geesh. I would rub it in my hands first like any soap.
i was my dreads almost never as having wet dreads is not fun, but i use a bar from dollylocks and i scrub my scalp and dreads with the bar and i have never experienced any residue, could be the massive gaps of time between washes idk but i scrub for LONG time. i do however highly recommend the tightening spray by dolly locks. the spray makes them feel better than any wash in my opinion.
I use Aleppo bar soap
The karma bar from lush is lovely and great for dreaddies! I also like dollylocks products
What do you find to be the best bar shampoo for dreadlocks in general?
are you not on hiatus anymore? whats goin' on??? i hope youre back though ilysm
+Sophie B. I filmed a few videos over the summer which hadn't been released yet - these are those.

I do have one question what do you recommend for shampoos for natural dreadlocks I been having mixed reviews on a bunch of different products

Did you try deep cleanse?! They remove residue/rots.

Question, I back combed my dreadlocks and I have one that is flat, it's about 3 weeks old, is there a way to fix it?
+Codie Beyer When they're young, they will be soft - and so easily flattened.
+Lazy Dreads it came out flat after I back combed it, I've taken it out and redone it, wrapped it, but it's still flat
This is really helpfully because I just started my dreads a week ago...also question: I'm wondering , is Dry Shampoo & Body Wash bad for dreads?
+JNely Nazaire yea dont use body wash... depends on the dry app but i love my dolly locks spray i highly reccomend it

You are such a cool guy! Thanks for the video :)
Ty for info....🌞

I suffer from dandruff alot and i have to use a special l shampoo that helps, which is the lush bar shampoo that smells like a bomb fire, it helps with my condition. would you recommend that? or anything else i can use?
Lush bar shampoo is really nice, I would recommend people to try them! ^^

Heather Adams Pomiades increase your risk for build up and it only temporarily holds your hair together and does not encourage locking. Good luck
Thanks

Why even buy a bar soap? Like why make it harder on yourself, get liquid
Bar soaps are usually cheaper, easier to mail or transport, and they don't require the plastic packaging of liquid.
Lazy Dreads makes sense, I just started dreads. What soap would you recommend for straight hair dreads? Maybe something that would leave my hair dry after? Idk I’m new to this bro, love your vids btw, very informative! 👏
Can you please say bubbly again hehe
You have to soak your head get anything that was in out with only water and then apply the shampoo it will spread more when your hair is wet already
