Hi guys, thank you for watching! I think portraits are a great subject to draw and they are something you can always work on in your sketchbook. But drawing a portrait doesn't have to be difficult - and it doesn't have to be perfect!! ...case in point: my drawing! :) It's all about the process! Let me know what you think, and leave a comment below about how you approach drawing a portrait study.
It seems easy, but we know that the process you use and the naturalness with which you carry it out is the result of years of experience and study. Being able to lock in a quick sketch of portrait proportions, construction and likeness is professional stuff and just thinking of doing it for a beginner and pure illusion. Obviously stimulating to use naturalness in drawing as you do, is a good thing that I appreciate.
Hi Francesco, yes I agree there is years of practice behind my drawing ... but one thing a beginner can work on is to gain confidence in drawing. I don't have years of confidence, that only came recently. I think that if a beginner can learn first to unlock a natural expression through observation, then they will achieve confidence in their drawing that much quicker, and that is the key I think. So glad you gave me your feedback, it's very interesting to hear what you think, thank you!
Thanks! I was trying to remember what pencil here - can't quite remember, but definitely not graphite so likely a medium charcoal pencil or conte pencil
I have been drawing on and off since I was little. It’s a fantastic medium of expression to me. However I tend to overthink my process and stop for long periods of time. Watching this video and others of yours is a joy and is helpful for me to “not think” so much on the process . Thank you!
@sockosan, thank you! That means so much to me to hear that from you, that's made my day :) I think it's vital to tap into drawing in a way that isn't about over-thinking and being analytical, it really is the doorway to deeper expression in your art. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi! Usually a charcoal pencil, or a conté pencil. Conté is a mix of charcoal nd crayon so it has a really nice consistency and not as smudgey as charcoal. The brand i use is Coné a Paris. I don't like drawing with graphite, but that's just my personal thing. hope this helps

A fellow artist! You are so talented. Love!
Thank you! I missed your comment, sorry for that. Thank you for watching :)
I love your sketching!
I used to love to watch my father sketch. As always, I send my daughter here to watch. She is shy on the platform, but, I hope she learns from you!
Oh wow, that's great to hear! Thank you so much. I hope she shares her work sometime, let me know I'd love to see it!
really nice and interesting

Great content. Thanks!
Great sketch! I love how loose it is! I’m working on loosening up myself! I tend to focus on details too much!
