      @@rob.b3293 they took their time. The issue was the fitter. He and I were blown away by the extra distance the ‘19 Apex Pro Forged irons were giving me (7 iron and 5 iron) and he didn’t pay attention to the ball runout after landing. Very helpful info. I just got fit into the JPX 921 Forged, and my fitter adjusted the lie angle to be more upright. Made a huge difference for me. That feel is really outstanding. Maybe us hackers would appreciate seeing Drew take some swings with some of these irons to see how they work in the hands of someone closer to our ability level! Keep up the great work, guys. #LetDrewCook

    Great review. You mentioned twice that if you like the Mizuno, to get the lie angle checked. If you go for any fitting, you need to get the lie angle checked, no matter which manufacture you go with. Titleist, which generally has the most upright lie angles for irons, can get hooky for me. Mizuno irons are good for me. Doesn’t mean I can only buy Mizuno irons. ⛳️🏌🏽‍♂️

    I have no need to change from my i210s but for some reason I really like the look of the X Forged CB. I may not have the game for it but I would love to try them. I have tried the P770s and they are so easy to hit. The P770s gave me a little more distance than my i210s but at the cost of a bit less spin - I would need to spend several rounds before I could tell whether the trade off was worth it

    Greetings Thomas I was wondering why the Mizuno JPX 921 Pro uses a Project X LZ 5.5 (heavier) as a standard shaft. And the Mizuno JPX 921 Forged uses a project X IO 5.5 (lighter) as a standard shaft. I thought that the 921 Forged was more of a players club and that Mizuno would have used the LZ (heavier) in the Forged Iron and the IO in the Pro iron... Could you explain why Mizuno used each of these shafts in the Heads in the JPX 921 irons. Both of these irons are still available as new clubs in a few places.

    bigger game improvement irons where they push mass out to the toe for forgiveness also causes more shaft droop than you will see compared to a more balanced club say more blade like. probably applies to moveable weights in drivers if you stick them out on the toe..

I was shocked how close p770 was In distance but the explanation of dynamic loft really makes sense out of it. Unfortunately I don't have the strike consistency Thomas has lol, miss hits is where I could use some slack and from what I gather 921 forged offers more forgiveness in that area but i would greatly appreciate your opinion. Probably too late for anyone to see this but 100% agree. Was testing the jpx and 770 on trackman today. My swing speed was 89-93 and was getting roughly 97% efficiency on average with the good shots. It wasn't going any further than 182 and most were in the 170s, although that was after a full round and range session prior to the trackman test.
      That said, I was fresh yesterday and tested the 770 on the range with my prgr launch monitor and was swinging 94-98 using a 7 iron and according to my monitor it was going in the 180s and 192 with best/luckiest power draw compared to my old tp9s that go 170.

      You are obviously delivering more dynamic loft into the ball. As an example, I play a 32 degree Mizuno 7-iron, and with 84-85mph swing speed, my carry is 173 yards with peak heights of 100-105 feet and with spin of 5800 indoors off mats. I would recommend you consider a few lessons because your swing speed has a lot more distance potential if you can improve your delivery. Cameron, DJ, and Bryson use 35-degree 7-irons, and have 200-yard, stock swing, carry distances

What do you see here that could explain the shorter distances? (Spin looks a touch on the high side)

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 4 роки тому +3

      @@docomo661 So basically, you have zero forward shaft-lean at impact. With about 98% certainty, like most amateur golfers, you have a very open club-face coming into impact because you are too late from the top of the downswing to square the face of the club to your spine angle (you need to put more twist into the grip at the very first moments of the downswing). Being a person who is likely practicing your golf, you have learned to NOT drive the handle forward (average on tour is 15 degrees forward shaft lean at impact with irons) because if you did, you would be hitting massive slices - so you have learned to basically stop your hands and allow the club to square very late and 'flip' into impact thus not compressing the ball with de-loft / forward shaft lean. So, even though you have natural speed, you are not remotely able to efficiently hit your 33-35 degree 7 iron with a launch angle below 20 degrees and get that 185-yard carry because you aren't squaring the face early and thus able to additionally drive the handle forward into impact. Eric Cogorno (PGA teacher) has lots of amazing videos on his youtube channel about getting the clubface square to your back - check out his channel and watch about 100 of his videos - start with this and then watch all his stuff - ua-cam.com/video/lk8YHElvmxs/v-deo.html

My issue is that the maximum smash factor, as limited by the USGA, for any club is 1.50. The vast majority of people don’t get close to a smash factor of 1.50 with their driver, let alone a 7-iron. I would say its impossible to achieve a smash factor of 1.48 with a 7-iron. There is something wrong with this data. Either the club speed or ball speed measurements are wrong.

    I'm lost on your smash factor. I have the same ballspeed and I swing close to 95-98MPH on GC Quad. According to Trackman, A good smash factor on a 7 is 1.33 and you are 1.47. So that tells me its not reading your club head speed correctly. Also, according to trackman, PGA tour average is 90MPH swing speed and 120Ballspeed for a 7, so there is no way you are at 129 ballspeed with an 89 MPH swing speed.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  4 роки тому +6

      Hi Dave, This is Thomas Campbell. This is a great question and one I can answer. First GC Quad and Trackman track the club speed differently and what is usually found is TrackMan's club speed is tracked slower than GCQuad. What both units do track basically identically is ball speed. because TrackMan reads the club speed slower the smash factor will be higher. Tour Average Smash factor is 1.38. Keep in mind most tour player play blades, their 7 iron loft is about 35*. In this test we were testing clubs that have less loft. Less loft = more ball speed which is why my ball speed pushes 129mph with irons that have less loft on them. Also keep in mind 1.38 is tour average if a player delivers the club with less dynamic loft that number will be higher. The same can be said when comparing drivers on TrackMan and GCQuad because GC Quad usually shows a higher club speed the smash factor usually tops out around 1.45 while TrackMan can push 1.50 Focus more on ball speed when testing clubs rather than smash factor!

      Thomas is from New Zealand. Moved to Minnesota when he was 20, his accent is a mixture of New Zealand "English" and Midwest slowly taking over.
