Manufacturers providing equipment in this nature speaks to the great work TXG does, with complete honesty & integrity. What TXG has built and continues to build is amazing, and is being recognized.
At last! The Brands have finally cottoned on to the value a TXG 'fitted' review can create for their product (provided it stands up to the test, of course). :)
Matt the robot right on the money again, honestly his golf swing is a thing of effortless beauty. Really nice combo set. Great video guys, always smile when I here the words (welcome back to the channel).
It’s amazing how evergreen this video is. I had a fitting this week, with PXG, and the final piece of the fitting was changing the center screw weight. Tried three different weights in 2g increments and ultimately found an amazing fit and controlled my spin by a total of 1k rpms. Can’t understate how valuable this information is.
In fairness Taylormade was actually the first to offer this setup for reviews, they just unfortunately have no stock of P700 due to Coronavirus. We will be getting a couple cool sets of custom combo irons from them soon. And Titleist is very good to us also, I’m sure we can do something similar with them and we intend to 👍
Great video, best golf channel on UA-cam. I have a video request for you guys, if you’re looking for ideas. I would be really interested to see a course vlog of you two playing with clubs that are more forgiving than what you would typically use. Maybe non low spin driver heads, 3 and 4 hybrids, cast CB irons (maybe something in the p770/mavrik Pro type of family, not complete game improvement) maybe CB wedges and even high MOI mallet putters. I, and I think many others, would be interested to see how beneficial the forgiveness is, versus the trade off of less workability and control, in the hands of good players like yourselves on the course. I find it fascinating that some of the very best players in the world on the PGA Tour often play very forgiving clubs. Keep up the good work!
Edel single length irons have always had different weights that can be placed/replaced in their irons. And in an Edel fitting, each club in the set is fit individually. In my case, I was surprised that the clubs performed best with different weights in different irons. Had a major impact on launch and ball flight which was very important in the single length in part because the 4, 5 & 6 irons are shorter length shafts than the norm and part of the issue most golfers face with single length irons is launching and getting the right spin to keep the ball in the air with the longer irons. This feature of Edels have enabled me to keep the clubs for a longer period time as at a point I switched to graphite shafts and simply refit the headweights to give me the feel I am most comfortable with. It's a great feature. Good for Callaway, but the number of different head weights Edel makes available is truly extraordinary. The proof in my case is that I was able to precision fit the irons with two very different shafts over time.
What I’ve learned from you guys has influenced my WITB- 8-p Mizuno Mp5 7-6 Mizuno Mp25 Ditched the 3,4 and 5 mizuno Mp25 Using Taylormade tour preferred CB 2015, 5 and 4 iron stronger loft but easier to fill my gaps. Like Really easy! It’s all about the loft ! But more importantly what works. I’m all for Combo sets , I even have hybrids as back up when I’m swinging like a clown. But then you guys go showing off those lovely MB’s !!!!!!!
Getting clubs built to spec. Really shows the respect the OEMs have in your reviews. Matt going flag hunting justifies that approach and shows the clubs in their best light. Fair play lads
Nice to hear you guys talk about the advantages of a slightly less forgiving iron for longer hitters. I've always thought that was good for me personally and to hear you discuss it is nice. When I pull or push a 7 iron from 200, I don't want it to go 200 (typically), there's gonna be less danger short than long, left or right of the green.
Made sure to "like" this video. Trouble is, doing that on my TV is a real pain and requires about 15 different clicks. Easy on the laptop, but that does mean I'm watching you in two places... I've never been a fan of Callaway irons in the past, but those Apex MBs do look lovely. The CBs look a bit like a more "industrial" version of the MP59.
I currently combo the previous APEX MB and X-Forged plus the X-forged UT as my 3 and 4 iron, love this set up and excited to try the new irons in a similar setup.
My first proper set of irons as a junior was the Wilson Staff Fi5, which kind of was crazy "inovative" back then as it was one set that was comboed up. Pretty amazing how that has only become a "fashionable" thing in the last few years with companies making multiple sets that are built to be comboed together...
Got fit into this set today actually; X Forged 4-7, apex mb 8-aw. Dynamic gold tour issue x100. Definitely a little hesitant to get the blades but they sure do feel good!
Been playing a combo set for 3 years now. Titleist MB/CB. Started the CB at a 6 iron, but only have 6 irons in my bag (4-9) with 4 wedges in the bottom. Smartest thing I could have ever done, dialled my yardages in with perfect gapping. If this it not recommended at a fitting, find a different fitter.
My little brother is a great example of mixed (iron) set. He plays 2 mizuno S18 wedges (60 and 50) he plays a 56 callaway MD 4. He has mizuno mp54 pw-5i, callaway apex ut 4i and srixon zu85 3i bent to 2i. The woods: mizuno st180 set to 13.5° en srixon Z785 driver set 8.5°. I like that he's mixing it up.
I think the removeable weight in an iron is brilliant because fitting taller golfers that need +.5-1" in length becomes a pain because swing weights get so high. If you can build an iron over length with normal swingweights that would be amazing.
I play the old X forged 18's (4-7) and the MB's (8-W). I'm a 5 handicap and have no problem with the forgiveness. My scores have been better with these than anything I've owned simply b/c I know I can count on the yardages and hit 3/4 shots. And be confident that I will not hit that ball that just explodes long......I would definitely consider this exact setup.
I have the previous MB from 8-PW and Previous X-Forged in 5-7, and although they look a little different the predictabillity of distance and feel is the best I have ever seen. Almost Identical to this set they put together.
Totally agree on the same shaft / built to your specs idea. Would love to see this incorporated into a 2 iron video (all with same graphite shaft ). I’m trying to decide at the moment between the new callaway UT / taylormade p790 UDI / or u500 /TMB
callaway has outdone thierselves. I can't believe how great these irons look and how they perform better than they look. obviously Matt is a great ball striker and that helps, but oh my
Actually that split screen mixed in adds to the test, good to a have little variation once and a while. Seems like most the manufactures have hit it out of the park! Good year for clubs at least!
I feel like I dreaming. Those things are soo sweet. Hope they do a raw release of both X Forged & Apex so I can combo them! Thanks for the great review, fellas!!
I think an under-the-radar aspect of Bryson's bag is that his irons since he started with Cobra have always been combo-ed too (4 and 5 different heads compared to 6-PW). Makes you wonder why Cobra's stock options aren't 6-PW/GW.
Sawing the short irons, took me back to time when I had my Maxfli Blades, these Callaways do look little bit similar and have to say they look amazing 👌👌
Very cool. I’m closely watching these iron combo vids as I’m thinking next year may be the time to pull the trigger on a more “aggressive” combo set than I currently have. I’m looking to get a little more performance at each end of the set. I’m anxious to see your take on the new Srixon series and the TaylorMade combo sets you have coming.
It would be awesome to see what you could do with a budget set of clubs, maybe used or an older model, fitted vs an off the shelf new model. I’m thinking like M2s vs SIMs. Similarly with Drivers. Maybe the answer for a lot of people is to take their current driver and spend the $200 to get fitted with the right settings, shaft, etc vs going out and buying the latest and greatest.
Surprised that not many Callaway Tour Pros play the MB... most if not all... Phil being an exception... play the X Forged... in fact KH Lee just won with the non TCB version... and Rahm is merc'n flagsticks with the T version...
The customer service is that good because a ton of people watch your videos and I’m sure you sell a lot of clubs as well. Us normal pros don’t get that same treatment haha.
If you don;t hit the ball as far as Matt, would you still transition at the 7-iron or are you saying that possibly the transition is related to distance (180yds) and forgiveness .. so the transition could be anywhere from 8 to 5 iron (or whatever) depending on how far you hit it.
Goes back to the topic MGS talked about in no putts given recently. Should iron fittings be done with a 6 or 7 iron only. How does the fitter like you deal with this issue of split makeup and what does that do to the head and shafts you need to carry to fit customers? Great video as always!
Guys, another great one! I'm intrigued with the direct to consumer iron options, and would like to request them to "my specs" rather than have them adjusted after the fact. If I were to have a fitting session, which specs should I have diagnosed for me to provide to a manufacturer?
Great video! I believe Xander is playing a new Apex cavity that looks very similar to the new X Forged from the back of the club. Do you know what the difference is? Keep up the great work, gents!
I’ve combo’d my Old Titleist mb p-7 with my Taylormade p790 7-4i, i find the blades far better around the greens. Any chance of a short game comparison for hot irons v blades? Matty’s control is legionary! 👍
I went for a callaway fitting at my course 2 years ago looking at apex combo set. the fitter gave me the 2018 x- forged to try. wow. so i ordered 7 to pw in x forged and 4 to 6 in apex cf 16. Have enjoyed my set but a few rock chips on 9 and wedge and am looking to replace them but alas 2018 x forged are discontinued. I am curious what the 2021 x forged wedge looks like. buy all x- forged or mb up to a 7 iron. As always enjoy your videos. Cheers Charlie from Kamloops B.C.
Great vid. I play ping s55 been considering new irons. Would the xforged cb be relatively close in size and forgiveness to the ping s55? Keep up the great work
Callaway could not possibly have spent their marketing dollars better by doing this - I would buy this exact set and swap out the 4 iron for something easier to hit
Choosing not to edit shots out really shows how robotic Matty is, truly inspirational
😆 was a good session, easy to make that choice when hitting it well I guess 😆
Marketing guy at Callaway sitting with his feet up having a cold beer watching this!
Great looking clubs.
Wilson Staff Model CB soon please !
Wilson Staff Model CB will be awesome!! Wilson is so underrated! Superb Clubs!
Thank You Callaway. We the consumer appreciate this as an integral part of our decision making
Manufacturers providing equipment in this nature speaks to the great work TXG does, with complete honesty & integrity. What TXG has built and continues to build is amazing, and is being recognized.
Its really nice to see two people who actually KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT..
I actually like the DTL angle, it’s really interesting to see Matt’s swing. I wouldn’t mind if you guys mixed it up a bit, it’s nice
At last! The Brands have finally cottoned on to the value a TXG 'fitted' review can create for their product (provided it stands up to the test, of course). :)

Now I think we need to see a combo set from the big 3:
Taylormade
Callaway
Titleist
Out of these big three only one was smart enought to a actually send a properly fitted set to Ian and Matty from the get go 😉
In fairness Taylormade was actually the first to offer this setup for reviews, they just unfortunately have no stock of P700 due to Coronavirus. We will be getting a couple cool sets of custom combo irons from them soon. And Titleist is very good to us also, I’m sure we can do something similar with them and we intend to 👍
You can tell just by Matty's reaction after every shot, that he is in love with these
I feel like Tommy Fleetwood deserves so much credit for showing the world its ok to mix up your bag
Best golf channel on YT period!!!
I really liked these until I saw the new Wilson Staff CB. As a current V6 player I'm probably not buying anything until I hit the new Wilson's
Mike Newton has done a review on them already. He's as robotic as Matty so a great reviewer. He loves Wilson and loves these new clubs too.

8 to 7 is where I made to switch in my JPX919 Forged/Hot Metal Pro set. It works really well for me.
The sound of those blades is unreal. So good.
Just picked up some '18 x-forged. They are fantastic clubs, they definitely look a little better than this years I think.

Just got a split set of the JPX 921 Forged 4-6, and mp20 mmc in 7-pw
I used to play the TM MC’s and I miss them. These are beautiful irons. Might just have to give them a go.
You guys are some serious nerds, and i love it!!
Both of you talking so fast in this video, i can tell you were thrilled about this test lol
Can't wait to see the new Srixon ZX5 & ZX7 review!

Could you test the spin robustness claim by Callaway? Just hit a lot of shots with your t100 and these to compare
Look forward to the virtual of round with these! Want to see how Ian feels about them
Surprised that not many Callaway Tour Pros play the MB... most if not all... Phil being an exception... play the X Forged... in fact KH Lee just won with the non TCB version... and Rahm is merc'n flagsticks with the T version...
Don’t Tommy Fleetwood and Bernhard Langer combo different manufacturers in their irons?
The customer service is that good because a ton of people watch your videos and I’m sure you sell a lot of clubs as well. Us normal pros don’t get that same treatment haha.

Still play tour perferd mbs still haven't found a replacement but these look good.
Nice irons! Good content boys, could you get your hands on some penley shafts? I picked some up on a whim and they are awesome.
Guys, another great one! I'm intrigued with the direct to consumer iron options, and would like to request them to "my specs" rather than have them adjusted after the fact. If I were to have a fitting session, which specs should I have diagnosed for me to provide to a manufacturer?
I think I saw on Instagram that these are forged by Endo..... I bet they feel amazing
Tommy Fleetwood is a good example! He plays Srixon long irons with the rest being taylormade p7tw's.
Incredible looking irons!! love this review format!
I was waiting to check out the new irons. I just really do like the way the CB look.
Is it a crazy idea to play the MB PW and AW and X forged 9 and up haha? I just love love how the MB look and need to replace those two clubs.
I ordered my apex 19s from my golf club in June and I’m a tournament golfer
What’s a tournament golfer?
I have the same setup just older, x-forged 18 4 to 7 and razr x mb 8 to pw 😍
Really love the look of these irons.. Cant wait to try them... Seeing if theres anything to sway me from the mp20s.
U guys really make it easy for us
Any plans on doing a review/test of PXG 0211? They are advertised as a combo/progressive set
Would love to hear if / how this concept would impact the demo matrix and how to decide where to transition when hitting 6i
Y'all gotta get some Hogans back in with their new combo sets (8-PW Icons, 5-7 PTX Pros, 4 utility iron)!
Sounds amazing!!
I'm a 5 handicap and currently play the the apex pros. My ball striking is pretty consistent. Could I get away playing the apex mb pw-7 ??
With Christmas around the corner these clubs will be selling fast!!! 🤯
Thx for this very nice video!!
What's the difference between X-Forged and TCB? in term of "playability"
Great video yet again with awesome content..keep up the good work guys 👌
Can’t wait to see the on course stuff
Great video guys, I was wondering if you could do a review on the new Wilson Staff CB irons?
Or maybe even the Wilson Staff Model (tour) golf ball?
Would love to do both! If Wilson sends we’ll definitely test 👍
I'm first and foremost a Ping fan, but think Callaway makes some nice gear..........these irons are impressive.
Great video! I believe Xander is playing a new Apex cavity that looks very similar to the new X Forged from the back of the club. Do you know what the difference is? Keep up the great work, gents!
Haven’t seen anything official yet but can’t wait to see if they get released!
The best and my favourite youtube channel. :)
Maybe a black weight screw in the MB would help with blending aesthetics.
Awesome. Looks like the X-Forged CB has MMT shafts as stock. Have you guys tested the MMT shafts for irons?
I’ve combo’d my Old Titleist mb p-7 with my Taylormade p790 7-4i, i find the blades far better around the greens. Any chance of a short game comparison for hot irons v blades? Matty’s control is legionary! 👍

great video, i like this review format!
Breakdown a combo set with the 4 & 5 UT pls
Callaway Golf, a stand up company
They have apex tcb now for this exact purpose
Any word on the new 2020/2021 apex and apex pro line?
Great move by Callaway
Was Taylormade 10 years ahead of the game in making the 2011 Tour Preferred MB? Or... was it time to clean out the bolt storage room?
Is there a planned Apex for 2021? I know they were CF16 .. then CF19 - so will there be a new CF21?
Great vid. I play ping s55 been considering new irons. Would the xforged cb be relatively close in size and forgiveness to the ping s55? Keep up the great work
First of all a big shout out to Callaway!
And then a Big Wow that was one hell of a TXG Masterclass!
Awesome!! Guys ty,,, alot of info today ,,gotta let it sink in!!
I like the look of both
Another great video gents!
the callaway blades remind me of adam's pro black mbs.
Yes!! First to comment and hit the like button. As soon as I see Ian and CG gear.... the like button gets pressed!
Callaway could not possibly have spent their marketing dollars better by doing this - I would buy this exact set and swap out the 4 iron for something easier to hit
And Ian - great fit today on my friend Mark
