Good evening, I love your videos and I think your commentary is great. I know it is selfish of me but could you please give an alternative timeline video on if the kergulen plateau was above water. It would be most interesting to cover such a topic as its location to prime regions and possible colonial influences can lead to diverse and unique changes.
The slower exposure to disease as well as potential trade of technologies by the norse colonies would change the entire dynamic of a potential European rush to America. Maybe something more akin to North American French colonisation with forts and allainces with tribes to create allied local states. The Atlantean states having probably first pick may also lead to muslim influence in America from the southern state.
Navies would kinda be a midpoint between sea dwelling and land dwelling civilisations. For land ones it’s a way to travel on the ocean, and for ocean ones it’s adapting a vessel to the edge of their domain to fight a land force.
It should be a rift-created continent. Like Iceland but far larger. There's an alternative idea, what if Flood Basalt eruptions like what caused the Siberian Traps happened in antiquity?
In my estimate , the Atlantean Civilisation that Plato talked about was the Minoans civilisation. At their peak, they were master of eastern Mediterranean and controlled Crete and the Aegean . The Bronze collapse caused greece to enter a dark age where they lost tech like writing and sailing .
In short, Atlantis in this alternate history is a version of Britain and Ireland with a larger presence of Islam, Vikings, and Latins. Note: I liked how you delved into and focused on the climate of the continent and the terrain on which it is located
There is a Seasteading project about creating a massive floating isle with 5 million square kilometers in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and this new floating isle would become a new country called Ornurense Portugal Empire and its inhabitants would be mostly Robots (robots in shape of several mythical creatures)... this Seasteading Project will be developed and completed by 2094 and this floating isle of Ornurense Portugal would become like a real life Azeroth/Narnia
I liked it but I actually think the exploration of the new world would have happened even earlier than the Viking age maybe even as early as the sea peoples and Egypt pre Bronze Age collapse they had a great interest in exploration and I could see them finding it and the tales of that being a legend passed through the ages
Surprised there wasn't any Punic settlement, but then again, besides possible Norse visits, the Azores were likely undiscovered until the 1400s, so I guess it checks out. Plato probably made the whole thing up, but I like imagining an advanced bronze age civilization in Doggerland instead of the likely fishing and hunter-gather settlements of real life. It's kinda past the pillars of Heracles if you're getting there from Egypt or Greece by sea; you just have to sail a bit further to the English Channel.
Yeah, I find it hard to believe that Atlantis would be populated with Romans and celts if it were 1000km away from Europe. The Romans never really went any further west than Iberia, seeing the Atlantic as too dangerous. The celts were not a seafaring people. Their only real naval accomplishment was crossing the English Channel. Even if the heroditus or another Greek sailer found it, the Greeks sailed by hugging the coast, not going out into the open ocean. It would likely be split by the Spanish and Portuguese, and then end up divided between Britain, France, Denmark, Germany, Spain and Portugal in the 19th century.
Nice assumptions, but unrealistic. In our timeline Egypt knows about Atlantis, so the Phoenicians know about too. If Atlantis got its population after 500 BC it therefore would be Phoenician - and Carthaginian. With Atlantis, Carthago could win the Punic Wars., so Rome had far more to struggle with, building its Imperium Romanum at least 200 years later. According to Plato, Atlantis had people of its own, so we had to face Atlantean colonies in Europe and North Africa. Without the Romans ruling Palestina at "year 0", there would not be Christ and Christanity, and without Christianity there would be no Islam. Our world would look totally different now.
