So many great tips from Marcellus. Definitely going to try his set up. I'm sure I was retracting, not depressing my scapula in my set up. Kinda mad that I already benched this morning!

I’m so glad he talked about the wrist position. I’ve always been a little unsure on my bench form and I saw a TikTok video (I know…not the best place for accurate information) and it was to keep your wrist neutral. So I started to try and make sure I had a neutral wrist…I hated it and it felt so unnatural. Definitely going to go back to extending my wrists. Love how he explained the reasoning behind it also.

My biggest problem is that my rang of motion makes it so hard to get it completely down to my chest. I almost feel like my scapulas have to cross over each other to get it so far down.

I see a lot of people (in powerlifting specifically) who keep their butt off the bench until after they unrack. What are the benefits of doing this? Should I be trying to do this?

I’m super prone to shoulder injuries and barbell stuff (bench and OHP) seems to be the culprit…neutral grip lifts with dumbbells feels a lot better. Any suggestions? I’m scared to do anything upper body with a barbell after recovering from bilateral rotator cuff impingements 🙁

70 years old, bench 320, so a decent bench for an old man. Your hand separation is sub-optimal. You should be 2x your biachromial distance. And your talk about leg drive is misleading. Sure, you plant your feet into the floor but the force vector should be driving your body horizontally along the bench. Your leg drive is essentially wasted because it just wants to lift your butt up off the bench.

No, no, no, no, NO! Arching your back when bench pressing is CHEATING! Arching is like doing a DECLINED Bench Press and uses some of your Lats to press. NO, NO, NO! You need to keep your back FLAT so you isolate your Pecs better and use your front deltoids for the bench press the way it should be. If you want to increase your bench press alternate INCLINED 45° angle bench presses with FLAT Bench Presses. You will have a much better Pec definition and more stability with that formula.

They should seriously change the rules for women bench pressing, because the way they cheat in power lifting competitions is just painful to watch. Often times they mostly mastered cheating and barely learned how to bench.
