Same with many institutions from education to law and the RCC is the worst at hiding this. Atheists and so called religious are involved across the globe... when teachers and doctors or police and judges and stars do it, it's not as bad to my most peopleas the church is meant to be a safe place with godly people. Many sick people are in the church... as outside battling with all these perversion and evil. Some don't battle and so what they like. It is sickening.
I can't see how any decent human could allow a predator to continue. I wonder if it was their kids in danger if they would hide it

Very very sad and evil this was allowed to happen; however as a SDA, i have seen that cover up and allowed to continue runs through our church on so many different levels. And this is across the BUC.
This issue is sexual abuse. What about the many other issues in the church which is covered up or turned a blined eye to or allowed to continue, as if it is someone else's problem. Which has been brought to the attention of the church at large many times, but the majority of the memberes are set in their ways. From many leaders who do not lead and shepherd the church right to the majority of members who follow and accept the many bad standards. Have sda members looked at the many issues that effect the church on the local level up to conference level for decades. But when it is brought to the attention of the church; "thats all the people". The church does not speak out and work to put and end to these issues but continues as normal; often times saying these are not issues and move the issues away from them "send him to another country" and would often treat the messenger badly or the victims as liers..... BUT when something serious happens which comes to the general public attention. Yes the members will say it is evil and bad and say something should be done; "JUSTICE".
But can you tell me what are all of you doing about the other issues in the church within the BUC, which may not be as serious as sexual abuse "rape"; however as you all know, small bad practices can lead to great injustices.
I don't think any of you want me to name some of these issues.

In the UK, the South England Conference insists to take a course about safeguarding children and in our congregation most of us are doing it. We, today, unfortunately cannot do anything with the past, but we can be wiser, and more aware to protect the new generations. 🙏

I am an Adventist Pastor and am deeply sorrowful. These men did not deserve this betrayal and, I am ashamed of my church for its reticence in responding to their pleas for help. I knew the perpetrator also and am amazed that a man of such talents and stature could cherish this fatal flaw for so long and hurt so many trusting children. He served in positions of leadership and influence and abused the power entrusted to him. As a Minister I am always aware of the trust reposed in me by my congregants, the belief that ‘Pastor’ truly represents the God we teach about. I am also aware of my own frailties and know the absolute necessity of daily surrender to the Power of God. Sometimes we take our eyes off the Savior and become victims to our human weaknesses. I believe that above our ability to preach and teach, to administer and organize and, despite our charm and charisma, Pastors who believe they have been called by God for this special ministry need to first find the God who heals, for themselves and then set about sharing this joy and hope with the people they serve. My church owes these brothers and all the victims of this broken leader sincere apologies and perhaps something more.

The pastor “representing God,” is fundamental to the problem. It sets up the children to be at the mercy of pedophiles. When churches move the pedophiles around or publicly defend the church’s right not to punish or turn in their pedophiles to police, they are informing other pedophiles that the church is a haven for rape

It's not just men who were abused.
I went to the church when a Pastor abused me. They protected him. Moved him to other churches and wanted me to keep repeating the trauma that I endured as a part of their 'investigation'.
I reported it to the police as well, who eventually dropped the case as it was deemed to be a case of "he said, she said'.
I cannot forget the secondary abuse the church piled on me during my interactions with them on this matter.
They suggested I 'pray with them' to help the matter be resolved. Then they engaged a solicitor to intimidate me with letters and other contact.
The SDA church organisation remains a complicit party in the abuse perpetrated by the pastors it continues to shield behind the pulpit.

      "Do you really care"
However, what are you doing about them; are you like some of these leaders and people who have kept quite. Do you hold dear a man or women, church position, church name over, the "real love" and care of people.
These issues are in many other none SDA church.
I pray we the church will wake up

All Church denominations have this problem. When men gain power in any realm, some will abuse their power. This is a Biblical theme all thoughout the Bible. It's a shame that these men are not held accountable in this world, but believe me they will be held accountable at the end of this world. Also any in the Church that turned a blind eye to these atrocious acts will be held accountable as if they did the act themselves. Prayers for those of God's children that have been abused! 'As an Adventist, I have worked in child protection including chairing child protection conferences for many years. Frankly, if I was working for the conference safeguarding team, there would be a lot changes to the pathetic approach that was adopted.
What needs to be noted is that the perpetrator was allowed to get away with it by others who told the victims to keep quiet. The perpetrator is deceased however, if the people who told the men to be quiet, they need to answer for their stupidity.
It is disgusting that it had to come to these traumatised men to bring the matter to public attention before the SEC came out with a statement. Where were they pre the news.
What needs to be noted was that the day prior to the news, I told a woman that I am a SDA and her response was that she never heard of the SDA however, the following afternoon, she now has.
One abuse, is one to many and I would not slate the denomination for a minority of predictors. We just need to ensure that predators recieve the message that the SDA church is a no go zone.
Remember, all denominations have had predators and predators are in the world as well therefore, we need to ensure that our young people know that it is alright to speak out and adults need to act on what that child has disclosed rather than telling them to be quiet.

Also, don't forget, before the late 1990s, it was perfectly legal for school teachers in the UK to date their pupils provided the pupil was 16. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:12 Christ has warned us in the Bible that there will be spiritual wickedness in high places. High places are the places where there is religious worship, whether pagan temples or Christian churches (see Leviticus 16:30; Numbers 22:41; 1 Kings 3:3, etc).

Satan always seeks to use men in high religious positions, as he knows that here he can cause the most damage, especially in God's church. Both leadership and laymen have a responsibility to keep the church pure, but because most church leaders and laymen are living ungodly lives themselves, they become desensitized to evil, and excuse the wrongs of others.
And so, the Lord is not to blame, but the people to whom He has entrusted responsibilities to represent Him, who are supposed to lovingly protect and safeguard others. They are unfaithful to their duty.
God has allowed this matter to be exposed to the world because His people have failed to do their duty. My only advice is that those who have any responsibility in the church be faithful to their trust. God is not interested in position, but character.
It is time to stop lifting up doctor this, or professor that, and rather to lift up Jesus. It is the worship of men, not the worship of the Creator who gives men talents and abilities, this is one of the main causes of Donald Kelly's downfall.
Jesus said: "Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" - Luke 18:8 Now we can see why He has said this. Who truly is faithfully serving God in these last days, and fighting against evil, especially against the evil that is within His church?
To all the victims involved with this matter, the Lord lovingly states: "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." - Romans 12:19. This is not a get-out clause for those who are responsible to safeguard others not to do anything, rather, it is to let us know that when God's people have done their part, the Lord Himself will finally settle matters in accordance to His will.

Expecting an honest answer on this subject from a church? You must be pretty naive to believe that... Nr 1 goal for any church is to protect themselves - not to support the victims. Everytime it's the same... all churches are the same, though the stricter their teachings the more extreme the abuse.... And also the stronger the push to keep all "internal" (=silence victims and advice the abuser to get better at covering up) and don't forget to put the blame on the victims....
Bad news is that we'll read the exact same stories as long as we treat churches as something special and not like just any other organisation or club of people: get rid of special rights for religious organisations - we (as people) should demand higher checks on organisations that care for children and other people that depend and rely on services provided by those organisations. Giving these clubs special treatment only helps abusers to get access to victims and get away with it

Protect your children from these sick ppl. He wasn’t taking my child anywhere , let alone without me. This has been going on in every church denomination for ages unfortunately.

The church owes the victims restitution.

This should be shared to adventists that don’t want to do their working with kids safety checks thinking that God alone will protect our children..

ughhh gross and just so heartbreaking. I am an Adventist pastor. I take these things very seriously, and am so saddened how slowly the process has been to bring any consolation to these victims.1) If you see something say something! And don't stop till an investigation occurs and people are held to account and the truth is found. I have made sure on several accounts to get people removed from leadership and prosecuted for their actions. If someone isn't jailed and they flee to another country that can be very challenging to ensure they are not continuing their abusive behavior. 2) Parents need to be extremely cautious, whether it's at church or their neighborhood their kids are playing. Definitely don't allow your kids to sleep over anywhere with a person. 3) In my region in the US our administration has taken significant action to get people trained and volunteers live scanned/background checked. But the problem is that predators are rarely caught or they are first time predators so their names won't appear on a data base. So leaders dealing with kids need to be very diligent in vetting volunteers who work around kids.

There is no excuse to entrust and/or delegate the supervision of your child to anyone. None whatsoever.

I wonder how much of this has happened/ is happening in the black church? Would be absolutely taboo in that community, a community I know intimately, I would imagine victims would take their stories to the grave.

Well, the victims in the video are black. The abuser was black. So I think we already know how it goes when this happens in a black church?

Why black, and not any color church?
