Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first Cute Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause);
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

Fun Fact: the mons that you can bring in Amity Square (other than the starter) are all of the mons with overworld sprites made for use elsewhere in Sinnoh (except the starters). Drifloon is seen in the overworld at Valley Windworks for you to interact with, Psyduck block route 210, and the others are all found in cities next to their trainers. That’s the reason only those dozen or so mons were selected, they already had the sprites.
Which isn't entirely correct, since Machop *has* sprites, but isn't allowed in Amity Square. This has always confused me...
Amity Square always reminds me of the black belt guy who is mad they didn't let his Gyarados and Steelix in.

A heartgold soulsilver run using pokemon that have no evolution lines. You could get dunsparce and unknown before first gym, and hgss has a solid variety for single evolution lines. Fun encounters like herecross and pinser, Taurus and Miltank, as well as lapras. Might be too easy, but sounds like fun

I love how unique your runs are. One I would like to recommend is "Mono-Color". Using only pokemon under a color category in the Pokedex. I feel like some really good picks if you want a lot of encounters are Red, Blue, Purple, and Brown. Just a tip, don't choose Pink. There are 14 fully evolved pink pokemon as of gen 4

That sounds cool. What would be the ruling in terms of mons that change their colour during the evolution line. would you count them out completley or keep them so long as they are the colour of the run in their final evo?
@@DGDDice Nope. You can only use mons that are that color. Let's say you're doing a "Mono‐Brown" challenge. You get an Eevee. You can't evolve the Eevee. But you can use pre evolutions. Like for instance in the same Mono Brown challenge you get a Rattata. You can use and evolve the Rattata.

My issue with it is unless you have some kind of restriction set for your playthrough, there are always better water types available. I’d rather use Gastrodon or Gyarados basically every time. I have had to use him against Rork before though

Reminds me of all the cute-finatics from back in the day. This challenge is unique and there are a lot of pokemon that you'd never use in an actual playthrough

i think an only dragon types run would be pretty cool, specifically in xy. the introduction of fairy types makes dragons much more fragile, and i feel like early game would also be pretty difficult, considering how slowly most dragon types level. plus xy has a decent number of dragon types to choose from iirc (also you don't see a whole lot of gen 6 runs)

You don't realize how many Gen 4 leaders and trainers have back up "I'll just pray to RNG to win" mechanics until you do a nuzlocke of it.
Who just LETS an abra in the first forest have ENERGY BALL?! Switch training a weak mon and Piplup just gets fucking deleted bc Gen8 removed hidden power and gave the 2 psychics’ Abra energy hall instead
How about a run with only Pokemon that people believe need an evolution, Like Luvdisk and Spinda?

Also, choice specs just increases the power of "spam super effective move", which is an unavoidable strategy in a pokemon game sometimes. Its actually more of a challenge, cause if you didn't have it hold the choice specs, golduck would have been able to have MORE move options. So I definitely agree. Great video!
Maybe a challenge where you can only use “cool” (or smart, tough, etc.) moves while still using all the other hardcore nuzlocke rules?
I really like that you edit your videos with zoom ins on things that are left up to chance intermittently to keep the viewer on their toes, instead of only highlighting when bad things happen; it's not so frequent that it gets annoying, but it's just enough to keep the suspense up
What I love about your videos is even if the plot is cheesy, you really do have a sense of story in your nuzlocke. It’s not just I did A, B, and C

That Amity Park bit captures how I usually end up feeling about Nuzlockes- you fall in love with these pokemon, and know, just *know*, that one day your hubris will get them killed forever. I recently lost a mono-Buglocke at the second gym in Pokémon X, and I was completely devastated watching my friends die one by one. Thank you for capturing that feeling. Loved the video!
Ive got it, Every gym leader is just running their own nuzlockes and you fight them with their current teams because of the mons they lost to prior trainers

I know I'm late to the party, but I adore these themed challenges. Sometimes challenge run videos can feel repetitive, but these feel really... refreshing? Especially since you pick your team based on metrics that aren't gameplay-driven (like type), themed challenge runs don't just have their own sets of obstacles, but they have their own personalities. I thought it was really classy that you took us viewers along on the strolls through Amity Square.
I feel like the newer generations -- especially Alola -- are criminally underrated. I expect these have been suggested before, but: could you perhaps do a challenge of Sun/Moon/USun/UMoon with only Alolan Form pokemon? Or maybe X&Y with a team that can all participate in a Sky Battle?

Very interesting concept! I was just grinding out accessories in amity square when this came up in my recommendations. I'm trying to 100% every part of pokemon platinum, including the entire fashion case. It's nice to see stuff like this get noticed in more traditional playthroughs.

OK yes! I've been looking forward to another one of your videos so I could come in early. I love the idea of a theme team rather than a monotype team so this is perfect and the nocturnal, the headbutt. Great ideas. Maybe you could hold a poll or just have people give their ideas on certain themes, kind of like the old pimpnite videos and then play through nuzlocks like that. But I think your videos are amazing and you're a great creator and I hope to see more from you!

That speech about making mistakes made me feel better about my fight with Saturn in my Platinum hardcore nuzlocke, where Toxicroak came out and I thought "Okay, I will switch into Bronzong" and immediately somehow switched into Houndoom who got crit and died. Bad brain day.
Got an interesting challenge for you, only really doable pre-gen 6 though. A nuzlocke with only Pokemon that don't have footprints, no evolving to their final stage if it has a footprint. List is fairly large, but the early game is fairly brutal.

When I first saw this video I was half expecting you to dictate cute based on the pokémon's levelup moveset, with the moves belonging mostly in the cute category in contests. Turns out you found a much more interesting way of doing it and I was not disappointed. Good job!

When you sweep someone's team with ease in nuzlocke it is so satisfying especially harder gym leader and e4 and champion.
Honestly I like the Monotype challenges because they’re themed teams. This video was great love the storytelling
The moment around 13:10 really got to me. A few years ago, my childhood cat died to liver disease, and it made an immense impact on my life. I knew I would never be able to rub its belly, or cuddle with it on my bed again, and i was devastated. This video helped me realize that that is always what it will feel like. An immense, terrifying feeling of devastation and loneliness, one that, sadly, you can't escape from. It's brutal. That's why you have to savour the moments you experience with your loved ones, before it's too late.
The terabithia mention brought back memories i didn't want to remember , now i am sad once again . Love the vids i've bindgewatched almost everything , keep up the good work !
Stat based challenges: You're only allowed to use pokemon that have whichever stat you chose for it as their highest base stat.
